Hi, I’ve been getting random ~10 second long freezes roughly every 30 minutes of gameplay. I don’t think it’s tied to any in-game events as it’s happened at the very start of the map and during horde spawns or inbetween or even in the Keep.
I recently got back into playing Vermintide 2 so I’ve been using a fresh install, I only own the base collector’s edition of the game and I don’t have any mods installed. I have been playing shared DLC content though, I think? I’ve only been playing the regular PVE 4 player coop mode online and I don’t host.
I’ve tried disabling steam in-game overlay, both DX11 and DX12, Nvidia drivers 572.83 and the newest 581.29, setting worker threads to 6, borderless fullscreen and fullscreen, and restarting my PC. I also tried disabling g-sync on my ultrawide monitor and downclocking my GPU by -200 MHz. I tried turning DLSS and Nvidia’s low latency mode off too.
I tried force closing the game during a freeze to generate a crash report and I pasted the info below. (But normally the game recovers and I can keep playing after about ~10 seconds) I’ve uploaded a screenshot of my game settings in the launcher and Nvidia App
@Coconutporo sorry to hear this. Are you experiencing in-game freezes? or outright crashing?
If it’s freezes/stuttering, then a background application (commonly overlays, hooks etc.) may be the culprit. A Selective Startup can help identify whether this is the case. To do so:
Press the Windows key
Type ‘msconfig’ and select ‘System Configuration’
On the ‘General’ tab, select ‘Selective Startup’
Deselect ‘Load startup Items’
Reboot your PC
Otherwise, performing a clean reinstallation of Vermintide 2 which involves deleting your AppData may help (please note any custom settings e.g. graphics, keybinds etc. will be reset):
unfortunately I tried both reinstalling the game + deleting my appdata and it didn’t work, I tried disabling startup apps in msconfig’s selective startup as you suggested and that didn’t work either…. also tried using DDU to make a clean installation of 581.42 nvidia drivers.
My game doesn’t crash but the Windows prompt to close the program does show up if I click while it’s frozen (which is how I generated the crash log).
Thanks for the update! Sorry to hear the issue persists. It’s a shot in the dark, but perhaps checking if a BIOS update is available may help. Otherwise, tweaking your worker threads incrementally up/down could be worth checking also.
I think I found out what it was, I found an old reddit post with the same symptoms and they mentioned that adding Vermintide as a firewall exception to WIndows Defender worked, I also had to disable some firewall rules I’d set up on my router and the freezing seems to be gone now
