Pyromancers running Resourceful Sharpshooter is borderline overpowered and kills fun for others

Watch the Cooldown bar and bare in mind I’m using Heat Sink and not Resourceful Sharpshooter.

Also bare in mind the nature of the ultimate. There’s a reason this thread is about Pyro and not Foot Knight building his cooldown with a 1h sword + CDR build.

Also it’s supposed to have already been fixed.

Ah, ok. Geez they better nerf Waystalker and true flight next because between that and hagsbane this seems pretty mild. Still if it’s “supposed to be fixed” it’s supposed to be fixed.

I agree. There are certain ranged builds which can overperform and end up doing the majority of the work if played right.

DPS classes have DPS. It’s truly shocking.

Don’t you dare touch my hagbane

I just couldn’t find any reason in that video why the low CD of Pyro is game-breaking and used a very similar build (Waystalker + CDR + Hagsbane) that I had the impression most people found pretty balanced as a comparison.

Definitely don’t think any current classes or weapons require a nerf.

I think huntsman should be nerfed into the floor. He should be given a balloon on a stick instead of the halberd and his arrows should be made out of toffee.

This damage isn’t normal.

Also agree that hagbane WS is as big fun remover as Head Pyro. That’s why I don’t play neither.

Yeah. Your task is to outperform any ranged career in a 2 ranged party (Bardin doesn’t count) as Mercenary. Now go.

Try to find enjoyment in competing for kills in that scenario too.

Good grief people the “broken” part that can be abused is rapid target switching to get more procs, something that was supposedly fixed already but clearly isn’t. THAT is the issue, no one is going to touch your precious hagbane because YOU CAN’T DO THIS WITH HAGBANE. Or any other weapon.

I’ve played with beam pyros that do this, and no it isn’t game breaking OP, but it is annoying AF mostly from the constant FF from lady wobble-beam and her overly friendly burning heads. Fixing this broken mechanic would mean less annoyance for everyone else.

And it would mean beam staff would be rendered mostly useless… Flamethrower is annoying and gets ppl 10k plus damage too. Just because there’s a dumb garbage build that’s worse than every other build doesn’t mean we need to go breaking whole weapons. While we’re at it, should we also remove the CD benefit of melee attacks then?

Isn’t normal? If you read my above comments, I actively played aggressively… I purposely put myself in the front line to get more kills. I ran in-front of the Pyro’s beam to get more kills. Cause that’s how I roll… just proving a point that this thread is BS and a WS can easily out-damage/out-preform a Sienna if you go try hard. Damage isn’t normal? So what’s you’re excuse for the BH doing only 5k less damage with only half of the kills as me? Guess we should nerf BH as well… Q_Q

That’s an average game on Skittergate… I had fun, everyone else in the party had fun, we were active in voice chat and the Kruber & Pyro even added me to friends list. But ok, no one had fun.

I guess what I’m trying to say, is that it seems like every other day, people are crying on here about classes/builds being OP. Last week was how OP shade is, that thread was so toxic, it got locked. Then another one was made and it was locked as well. Yet I can easily out damage a shade any day of the week with Pyro/WS. It almost seems like people are annoyed that DPS classes can DPS. It’s mind boggling.

Would it? I don’t understand. Full disclosure: I have played very little beam (maybe 5 hours total) because I don’t care for it.

But just speculating: Making the first hit/tick of beam not able to proc wouldn’t hurt more “normal” use of the beam. You could still move it between targets to damage and staggerlock them, you just wouldn’t get the insane venting + CD + damage from it. Focusing one target would still yield plenty of crits. I think this would be more in line with the beam attack being for single target / sniper stuff, and the shotgun for CC stuff.

Sorry mate, you just don’t seem to get it. The Beam staff is actually one of the weakest weapons Sienne can take. It’s just the most noob friendly do to CC lock at range and shotgun blast up close. Bolt staff is a god damn monster on boss kills and anything above a slave rat or nordic scrub. Fireball staff is even better… Conflag staff nukes hordes. Sienna actually has some really good range weapons, beam is working just fine. And a IB, WS, HM, Shade, can easily out kill her and out survive her. And yes, even a Huntsman playing properly and shooting into hordes as they spawn with his bow or a Slayer using hit kit right can effectively make her useless. But when that boss and horde come at once, that’s when Sienna shines and can CC lock the horde while the rest of us focus on the boss.

Also, just to clear that up from earlier. It was joke, you really think I posted a “I’m watching you” meme as if I was worried about meh hagbane?

Also, you can indeed do this with a hagbane. When a hagbane is fired into a horde, I normally get a good 5% off my cooldown.

You can also do it a lot easier with dual weapons. Don’t believe me, equip dual daggers or Sword & Dagger, hit a dummy, you’re welcome.

Yeah it’s very weak. Takes longer to kill any special than pretty much any other ranged weapon. Charging ult faster is a big part of what keeps it balanced. It’s not, however, enough to make it better DPS than some other staves the RS build is actually quite garbage. People complaining about it don’t understand the class or weapon well.

… Orly? You can take any other weapon with a fixed fire rate and wobble your crossbar like a maniac to proc way more times? This is clearly something that you can only do with the beam staff. Yeah habgane crits get you a lot from the aoe, but the chance for each shot to be a crit is fixed, you’re limited by the charged shot rate of fire, and no amount of macro-wobble-whatever is going to change that.

With that said, your other points and those of @Avar make sense, thanks for the details. Like I say, I don’t play beam, so I trust your inputs. If that’s all beam has going for it, fair enough for me.

To be fair though, my slayer is in ult mode like 99% of the time during sustained combat and my bh has his ult ready way more frequently than could ever be needed for min:max, and that’s with swift slaying not lolRC. Same for pretty much every class. I really don’t think ults are meant to be colossal game changers, just powerful tools we have to be semi-strategic with as we spam them. Anyways, I can assure you I’m doing more useful damage as slayer perma-locked in 25% speed buff zerg mode than anyone is getting wiggling a no-damage beam for 4-5s and throwing an ult that kills a few trash mobs or a single armoured target. The RS build is just bad, even on paper, compared to what every other class does as a norm. In general, beam is only good if the player using it is good and is consistently faster than the other DPS on the team, more reflexive, more strategic, and with a (much) quicker reaction time. Otherwise, it’s just a low damage long range flamethrower that’ll get kinda ok numbers without really doing much and you’ll watch the Sienna fall apart completely as soon as the situation gets even remotely dynamic. This describes the vast majority of beam Siennas I’ve seen and it’s extremely frustrating. Anyone rocking RS likely intrinsically falls into that latter category.

It’s important to remember that the trade-off of this supposedly “abusive” build is that you spend the majority of your time dealing virtually no damage to pull it off and that you’re only getting full value out of it when it doesn’t decide to veer into an armoured target. Overall kills and damage output of RS Sienna vs every other class is meh. It may be dumb and cheesy, like the flamethrower, but it’s weak, and if someone’s losing to it they really shouldn’t be.

Without addressing Resourceful combatant with beam staff at all.

Except that this is a team game, a good Sienna is or rarely needs to pay attention to the other stuff, good positioning and good teammates mean that nothing gets close to her, The types of play where players run forwards into the beam or fire to get the rats or stats just is not desirable, the same with waiting for sienna to beam down a horde when she does not need to cool down…

I’ve seen decent beam staff players sniping SV and elites, it works well for them, I’ve also seen the “I can beam this horde all day sienna”, it’s boring… Any strategy that admits to ignoring the beam or blocking it is basically admitting there’s an issue with game play around it. We’re supposed to play as a team, I know I often keep an eye on sienna and what’s around her so she does not need to worry about it.

I’m not entirely convinced that Sienna’s melee is crap either we have a player that regularly pops choas warriors with her mace, and is often the sole survivor of “encounters gone wrong”.
