'Cept it’s still sub-par. The best thing that can be said about the build is that it’s slightly better at hurting CW. Even that’s debatable since you’re either going to be venting more or sacrificing 30% CD to pull it off. Anyways, vs everything else, most other ranged weapons on all characters are a lot more devastating overall. RS Pyro is a pretty garbage build that sacrifices versatility. It “does good damage” much like a flamethrower “does good damage,” doing so in a way that’s mostly irrelevant and a lil cheesy.
You asked my point.
And then ignored it.
Actually you are ad homming as I directly adressed that by saying that making HS and ult work that fast isn’t very efficient and doesn’t outperform other builds.
The point wasn’t the build. It was the staff’s ability to gain cooldown reduction and Heat Sink, through target switch spamming.
And my point is that I don’t see that as being overpowered or broken, because it’s not more efficient than other builds/weapons.
Considering you’ve even posted this as a BUG of all things, I assume you think it is broken or overpowered. It isn’t.
That’s a feature. It’s a diverse game with diverse classes and diverse weapons. Different weapons/builds do different things. This is what that weapon/build does. It isn’t very good compared to most other weapons/builds on most other characters/classes. Most that can be said is that it’s different. It’s not really abusable, as a single arrow/stab can do more damage in way less time.
Using Heat Sink and NOT Resourceful Sharpshooter in the video. Watch cooldown reduction.
(no macro)
Looks very abusable.
No, not at all. Thanks to temp health generation + vent speed, combined with the fact Sienna melee is garbo, and even w/o beamstaff and w/o heat sink, a meleeing Sienna is simply a bad Sienna. This doesn’t mean she’s broken, it means she’s different. If you’d prefer every class to handle pretty much the same, I’d recommend VT1.
I don’t get this thread. corduroy started off showing a way to basically exploit (in my eyes) using a beam staff and a macro. The same combo being possible manually, albeit the macro being twice as effective. The thread veered off into another class/ranged meta discussion and honestly that’s irrelevant. Does anyone honestly think corduroy’s original video should not lead to changes?
To recap, the video shows an ult recharging in 2-3 seconds, manually in about 5+ seconds in an ideal 1 enemy case. If it’s possible to do that consistently on bosses then you could almost perma-stun them without consumables. You don’t even care about heat generation because you could run heat drop on ult.
Back from patch 1.0.6, this patch note looks like it should have addressed this problem, so maybe it’s a regression:
What changes exactly? Banning people for macros? Making a weapon intrinsically worse just to deal with a tiny minority of macro-abusers? I’ve yet to see anyone prove that this build/technique is more efficient or better than any other builds, in which case the question becomes - is it broken at all?
I don’t even use beam staff, but I will also argue against changes that limit viable builds and playstyles. There’s precious few enough of them already, and I think any change made to stop this build is simply removing a playstyle that doesn’t seem broken to me at all.
Sans macro-fiddling, I would say that this isn’t abusing game mechanics, but using game mechanics for a different build/playstyle.
I didn’t mention any possible changes because I’m not one of their developers; I don’t know what is feasible on their end. It’s easy to come up with potential ideas to retain the original (manual) play-style while reducing abuse, that’s not the hard part.
It isn’t? It’s probably super-easy to make macros for halberd push-double overhead, or hordeclear/block-canceling in general. People have certainly made macros to autoattack to make themselves move faster with the weapons that allow it (DD, dual axe).
Does the existence of macros mean all of that needs to be changed as well, and if so, how?
Changing it without removing playstyle options or just flat-out nerfing the weapon in question is undoubtedly the hard part.
This is a a straw man. I’m not advocating against all macros; not all macros are bad. The macro in this case improves performance by ~100% (5+ to 2-3 seconds). I’d say there’s a similar problem with 2h hammer light-Q-Q, which is why I don’t setup a macro for that either.
My point was that ideas are easy to come up with, the implementation is the hard part. It’s the nature of software development.
Amen
I think it’s the fact most people see the Pryo doing her beam/burning head spam and just stand aside and let her do it. Not me, I’m a greedy, greedy knife eared waystalker
Even if I see her “firin’ up mah lazor”, I’ll just walk in-front of her, block her beam and steal all the kills with my Hagbane. Because that’s how I roll.
Also, people under estimate the hagbane, it’s probably the best weapon in the game. Knocks everything back. And with 10% skaven & monster on the bow and 10% chaos & monster on charm, GG bosses and everything else. But yea, there’s only a few times I’ve had a Pyro outdamage/outkill me.
For the most part, a good WS is going to take top in nearly everything but specials and elites. Cause a BH with xbow is gonna 1 shot all of them.
And this was actually a good group, the FK saved the day and knocked down the two CW patrols that got pulled throughout the match. lol. Which is where the Pyros damage taken comes from. The BH was on point, anytime we marked a special or elite, he was sniping them. And that Pyro boss damage is with a purple potion, mine is simple hagbane right click spam. But pyro is OP, GG
I actually get annoyed if I sense people are taking it easy when I’m on Pyro. One time someone was actually like, “this is so boring,” to which I replied, “then go f$%#ing attack stuff!” Beaming stuff down from a distance takes forever. It’s just CC topcover for the frontliners, so when frontliners don’t… yknow… frontline… it’s really frustrating. It’d be like if there was a melee holding the line and I just sat there.
I’ve actually seen this happen as well in one of my games, lol. And then the dude quit??? Like wtf, just go kill stuff XD. Most people act like it’s a MMO and once you tag a mob, that’s your kill, “I don’t wanna kill steal”.
It’s insane… I have no issue jumping in-front of the Pryo’s beam and then telling them to watch FF. Cause I’m a díck, lol. Same as I have no issue stealing a CW kill, or other elite. It’s really not important who kills what, as long as it dies. Everyone should be trying their hardest to kill everything as fast as possible, within reason.
Exactly. The only time this behaviour bothers me is when its taken to a non-productive (read: douchey) level when sometimes people will intentionally ignore a mob that they know is about to hit someone else in the back because they can get more kills faster if they ignore it to go wade into a horde that’s already being dealt with. Bonus d points if they’re simultaneously not on comms.
Other than that, yeah, I want people to ride my beam. It does no meaningful FF unless someone’s a fart from death anyways. I’m trying to lock things in place so peeps can wreck the everloving f$%^ out of it. I’mma try to top the charts w/e I’m on but that doesn’t mean I don’t want the rest of the team to try to do the same. I find the best groups are 4x hyper-aggro peeps chasing green circles but having the common sense to watch each others’ backs.
I get really cross when someone is trying to tell me how to play or force me into a playstyle. I have brought the game and will play it how I like so don’t tell me to swap to mace when I’m playing sienna and don’t expect me to use a halberd when I’m kruber. Similarly people telling me to hang back when there’s a horde or to stay near the dps and protects them will wind me up. If I want to pile on and take a beam or fireball to the back of the head I will. Taking a BH ult to the back of the head is a different matter though…
In short, the game in only boring if you let it be boring.
I couldn’t find any parts of your video where it came off as unbalanced. Boss didn’t get huntsman’d anyways.
Is there a timestamp somewhere demonstrating Pyro + Beam + Trait being problematic?
