In fact, our bots have several major problems, such as they use heavy attacks most of the time, although there is no need for that.
Furthermore, they will continue to chase the special enemy, even if the special enemy is at a long distance, and the enemy is constantly spawning.
And the bots will start dodging when Ratlin is shooting at extreme distances, even though they are almost never hit.
Finally, bots will not follow the player obediently, and often get stuck, leaving the player in a situation of fighting alone.
I hope Fat Shark will change as soon as possible.
There is also a MOD review, please restore it quickly so that the MOD can be updated.
yes, I have encountered the same issue as well. What’s even more absurd is that they often have their backs turned to the enemies. The behavior of these bots feels more like players dragging along a dog.
On what weapon? Some weapons are not optimal due to this base game bot behavior:
Reduced damage importance for infantry class enemies, causing bots to prefer faster wide sweep attacks on them. - Patch 4.2.1
If the weapon has a wide sweep heavy attack, in most cases, the bot is likely to prefer that attack to light attacks, even if it is not optimal. Some weapons are simply bugged when used with bots. See these posts where a user tested the bots’ melee attack behavior on various weapons:
Vanilla AI prioritizes Number of targets > Armor class. In most cases, Vanilla AI would use the single target attack against a single Inf, and the cleaving attack against more than 1 Inf. And in most cases, Vanilla AI would only use the single targeting attack against any numbers of Armored targets.
I recommend reading one of the bot guides to learn which melee weapons are optimal to use on bots.
Those are vanilla game bot bugs that are as old as the game itself. I agree with you that Fatshark should fix them. They should make the bot teleport to the player if it gets too far more strictly than the current behavior and/or lessen the distance before the bots start teleporting to the player. Related (non-sanctioned) mod: Sticky Bots
I believe that was introduced in Patch 4.2.1 (Feb. 2021), and yes I agree that they should tweak that feature to work better.
What do you mean by “mod review”? Are you referring to the sanctioned Bot Improvements - Combat mod, or another mod? If it’s the former, Fatshark is not in charge of updating mods, if it’s another mod, then specify which mod you’re referring to.
Their area of melee engagement is also ridiculously small. They won’t fight in melee unless the enemy are breathing down the bots neck. It’s why you get back stabbed even tho you have 3 bots watching your back. They literally ignore melee combatants.
I feel bad for console players for not even having the mod. The mod doesn’t fix everything but I do think that it still improves them even if slightly. I like to think that when if/when they add bots to Darktide they might come back and update/fix bots in V2, but we can only hope dawri.
Although I haven’t read these two articles, I often test and find the best solution in the mod server. I believe I should have no major problems in the choice of weapons and skills.
This is what I think the biggest problem with BOT at the moment, if the BOT can be properly around the player, if the effect of this mod, then there is no problem at all
But in fact, BOT’s ability to follow is very bad
I found a saying that Fat Shark’s mod review has been suspended for a long time, and currently observed that many mods that do not affect the game balance are not included in the whitelist.
Even in Bot improvements - combat, a whitelisted bot-related mod, someone mentioned that after updating the mod, it may disappear from the whitelist because it has not continued to review.
Yes, whether it is in the MOD server test or in actual combat, it is often seen that they react too slowly when they touch the battle and cause injuries.
Bot are actually already in darktide to a limited extent. From what i understand they are only really accessible if you dont have a full lobby for some reason ie: someone leaves mid match. They seem to favor ranged far far more then any vermintide bot (not a high bar) so they might have their own AI or at least have been tweaked. Also ive only ever seen veteran bots
Im personally hoping they nail down at least private (with bot) lobbies by the time it hits xbox
Another problem I have classified is that when the player is in the corner, the BOTs will afk, as if there is no project in their program that the player is defending when the player is in the corner.
I don’t have any hope at this point, but they really need to buff the vt2 bots. They’re simply not competitive with the power creep anymore and can’t handle most classes, especially the dlc ones. To this day bots still don’t shoot back at ungor archers for instance.
It will only be more important to have good bots as time goes on because we need to rely on bots more and more as it becomes harder to find games with other human players. Even with the recent drop of four whole new missions no one I know was interested in returning.
If they’re not willing to fix it themselves they could at least let the modders do it for them.
Bots are in an absolutely horrendous state at the moment, possibly the worst I’ve ever seen in 3.5K hours. Anyone who still says they’re “better than most randoms” (they used to be) clearly hasn’t played with bots recently. We’re long overdue for another bot improvement patch.
What time frame do you mean by “used to be”? At what point did they worsen? Bots have not received any major updates or changes for a long time. The last significant bot update was in Patch 4.2.1 on 2021-02-10.
Many of the bot bugs reported recently are actually old ones that new or returning players are not familiar with. The Bot Improvements - Combat mod page comments section is a good example of this, a lot of (probably new or returning) players there are blaming the mod for vanilla game bot bugs that have been around for years.
In fact, many of the invalid functions of the mod are to make up for things that the official bots do not have.
And now they are all invalid and become the official default.
And our bots are so weak that we feel like they need to be enhanced.
So in essence, we originally used mods to make up for the deficiencies of the official AI. Now that the mod is invalid, we can only hope that the official can update the bots (or buff them).
The bots generally just need an overhaul, they need to be more reactive to new situations and they need a priority over haul. Bots should also be able to coordinate with each other.
I.E if you go down during a monster fight, all 3 bots will ignore reviving you and focus on the monster. In all honesty, the bots that don’t have monster aggro should prioritize reviving the down player or a friendly bot. It would also be good if bots understood how to use their weapons too. They should know which attacks are best for crowds or elites depending on the weapon they have. So if you give Kruber a great sword his targeting priority should be trash, but if you give him a 2h hammer then he should prioritize elites. It’s things like that.
Yes
I feel the same way
Bots have some annoying behaviors, as you said, there is no boss hostility but they don’t come to save teammates (even if there is only one boss)
Bots still have many problems, I feel that playing with them is harder than true solo.
The real problem with bots is that if FS makes them better we would play more with them. QP would be played even less and the game might die out.
So lets just play together and not with bots
What a cop out. That’s got to be the weakest excuse to not build upon and improve upon a live service game. What will you tell me next, that Fatshark can’t code AI?
It’s not always possible to QP someone all the time, especially if you want to play with low ping.
Many times you have to play alone with three bots or two people with two bots.
I quite like to play solo often, usually if I’m going for specific achievements or objectives. I’m more open to playing with randoms than I used to be but still somewhat hesitant. I think that improving the bots would not heavily impact QP but it probably would have some effect. Regardless I think that finding a better balance with the bots would be ideal, they don’t need to insta-snipe specials as soon as they’re visible but there is definitely room for improvement.
