While personally I don’t mind paying the full price for Grail Knight considering what you get for it at that price point, I could understand the feeling of being forced to pay for stuff you don’t like. I also kind of understand the point about FS maybe selling a little more to some if you could spend more selectively. But on the other hand, if FS does that, they still have to do the same amount of work making all the seperate content, while people on average spend way less because they only buy selectively, which won’t cover the costs anymore, which means higher prices, which means less content for your money.
And if FS would try to sell every cosmetic / challenge / whatever seperately, no matter if the cumulative price for the entire class was the same as now, they’d get roasted for trying to sell meaningless microtransactions in an attempt to wring us dry. They can’t win here.
And I agree that explaining here why you would or would not buy the DLC is very useful feedback for FS, never meant to imply people shouldn’t do that. But sales numbers are also a very important metric.
Lastly, people complaining they have to pay way too much for this content, or even at all, seem a little whiney to me. This is literally FS’s only income from this point. These sales also fund every update and fix Vermintide gets. No sold DLC = no more Vermintide. And the prices aren’t very unfair, and in the end everything is optional as well.
Tbh I dislike that the Okri’s challenges themselves are locked behind a paywall
However I’m perfectly ok with the career and cosmetics costing what they do; $10 is a very fair price considering just a hat alone costs about $5 and bogenhafen DLC cost $10.
Edit: it’s also improtant to keep in mind that Bogenhafen and WoM also lock challenges behind a paywall so there’s that to consider too
The old DLCs locked the challenges behind a paywayll, that’s true, and that already was a step down from VT1 policy, where, althought it was considerably harder, you could get virtually anything from the dlcs for free.
But it’s unfair to make this comparison when talking about GK. Bogenhafen came with 2 new maps (and cosmetics) and WoM - which had a ton of problems - came with a mode and a map, regardless of how you feel about them. This feels so cheap because there’s no new content to go with it, and the premium dlc really isn’t offering anything worthy of the name, just what any other career has, and as such should be considered integral to a career.
Besides the “dlc with a dlc” complaints you can see that challenges not being included in the base pack is the biggest complaint on the reviews. Which, to be honest, comes to me as nothing unexpected.
If they want to go with a “collector’s edition” for any future DLC that’s fine, but it should be just like that: extra stuff which has nothing to do with the base thing. Not rob the basic version of anything but the bare-boned functionality.
I think its fine u need to unlock some stuff with the grail knight it gives me something to work on with him , a goal i want to achieve .
They already did similar things with the weapons of other dlcs u had to do kills and maps with them to get skins and in the base game there where skins locked behind challenges as well nobody said:
" I bought the game so why do I need to do all maps on legend to get a skin with the char it should have been unlocked from start cause I payd for it… "but just my opinion
And about the ppl complaining that they cant do a 100% okri without spending some money … I dont know what to say anymore that’s just …
Yeah I’m aware of the issues that come with cutting everything up into individual microtransactions. I just would have liked a middle ground bundle.
To be honest I’m not convinced the full bundle actually is a great deal for the price. Discussing what the actual labor cost is to the Devs here is pointless because the truth is we simply have no idea. As a value prospect from a consumer perspective, well it’s not good enough for me to likely ever buy it unless on sale. Basic extrapolation assuming all characters get a similarly priced 4th career adds up to more than I’d happily pay for what I’m getting. I’m definitely glad there’s a gameplay only option because honestly I don’t know if I would be buying any of the new careers (would probably fold for whatever Saltz gets) if they were full price only.
Whether or not the price point they’ve set helps or hurts them will ultimately come down to how many people, like me, don’t find the full bundle a good value prospect for what parts of the game matter to them, and how many, like you, find it a good value prospect. A lower price could be more profitable if it leads to significantly more sales of the full bundle.
We’ll see how things develop from here, I certainly hope the class is successful enough to warrant more classes, and am ultimately happy enough with the basic gameplay bundle (GK is a blast). Just wanted to add my thoughts on the price point they went with.
You are missing the point friend. They are not complaining about doing challenges for free, they are complaining about being unable to do challenges for money, unless that’s premium money.
I really dont see the Issue. If you care about Okri Challenges, you are invested into the game enough to pay the price they ask for. If you are not than 4€ for a new career is a rather fair price.
Ofcourse the Cosmetics are not worth doubling that, but I simply dont mind paying another 5€ for it, since I play this game way too much and want to support it.
When it comes to Fatsharks prizing People are always such donkies. A cinema ticket is 20€, a coffee 4.50€, a retail game 60+€. VT2 base game was a steal and if you like Kruber, you will get so much more time from him than the 6 hours you get from the other full prize game you bought.
If you dont want to pay, dont buy. Also dont expect FS being interested in maintaining support for “years to come”.
I dunno where you live, but in my country a cinema ticket goes from 5 on wednesdays to about 12 iirc (and i’m not sure about the roof because I don’t feel it’s worth the price so I tend to spend around 8 when I go), a coffee is about 1 euro, Vermintide 2 cost 25 when it released. I care about Okri Challenges and are quite invested in the game but I still don’t think this is worth the money they ask.
“Oh the base game was 25€. That is the reason Iam telling myself that 9€ is far to much money to invest in a game I like.”
I hope you never do sports, or any other hobby. Usually, entry costs 0€, but dont expect your club, or the store to give you money for doing what you like to do.
The “I got the game for X€, thats why DLCs shouldt be that pricey.” argument is so devoid of any reality and reason. If you actually like VT2, than you played it for hundreds of hours already. How much is FS allowed to charge for that in your book and how would most gaming companies would laugh at you and them for that value?
I have hundreds of hours in the game, yes. But this is not because the game has hundred of hours of content in it, like say, witcher 3. It’s because I find the gameplay and the story engaging enough to play throught it again and again and again. It’s a 15h content game at best, and that’s why it cost 25 and not 2500. Per your argument I should keep sending money to a bookstore when I like a book so much I re-read it. They sold a product, I bought it, I’m free to do with it as it pleases me. I shouldn’t feel indebted for that. When they realease new content I pay if I’m interested and feel I get my money’s worth from the addition.
If you want to read the second Part of the book, they wont sell it to you for free. If you want author notitions, you wont get them for free sent to you. Your argument is again, devoid of any reality and reason.
You are not forced to pay the 9€ to continute playing the game. The game is still what it is. You wont be able to have the complete experience anymore, which you have to buy. If 9€ is to much in your eyes, wait a couple of month and buy it for half.
Besides: as I said, part of the reason why I play this is that I enjoy going through the story. I’ve recently played throught all VT1 again. I wanted to do the same with the second, but I couldn’t. Because as soon as I reached the first map, without sense nor reason, the place was full of beastmen. Completeley ruined immersion for me. So FS has robbed me of that - one of the main reasons why I play this game.
They have removed them from 3 maps with this patch, so that goes in the right direction for me but it’s still not enough (Hunger in the dark, Halescourge, War camp, The pit, Blightreaper still have beastmen. I could accept war camp, even if I don’t see them in a swamp, in the main rotblood camp. And Lohner’s and Oleysa’s lines are no longer available in the game).
So, for me, many of this updates ruin my experience. Why should I be willing to support developers when they are going in a direction which I dislike? Until Winds of Magic I was happy to support them, and happy they wanted to keep the game alive for years to come.
But now? Way things are going, I really don’t want them to.
This is not a sequel. It’s a rewrite where sam gamgee is a half-elf, not a hobbit. I’d pay for VT3, as I would have paid for a map-pack. So I’m not sure my argument is devoid of any reality and reason.
On this we finally agree.
Still, just because you like this DLC and think it’s worth the money - for a lot of people it is - you shouldn’t be dismissive of the opinions or the arguments of the people which feel it doesn’t. The fact it’s been recieved as Mixed on steam shows there’s something to like and something to dislike about it.
The problem isn’t the price tag, the problem is that we paid extra for premium content that is locked behind Okri’s Challenges, which wasn’t specified in the store page.
When you buy premium content, if it isn’t specified, you expect to get the content the moment you hand over the money, not behind extra gameplay.
I totally got the but point but I cant understand why ppl think that way and as more posts i read here I think fs should not have made the option to get the character on a low price version they should have just brought out the premium version . I think they made that for ppl that want to go cheap. Everytime fs hold out a finger ppl want to take the whole arm for free .
And now many ppl complain about that stuff what’s not getting in my head… and btw the last time I get a coffee for 1 was before € came out so where the hell u live I want to order my coffee there xD in Germany a cup of coffee goes from 3.50 to 6
As you go east in Europe, wages and prices go down considerably, I live in Hungary and your German prices are usually double or more of our standard prices (except Budapest, that’s like another country in the country).
So, while I understand the reactions around pricing, nobody is losing anything not buying stuff. Especially that another career doesn’t bring that much to the replayability of the game.
I’m in Italy, so it’s a short trip. You might enjoy a visit once this epidemic is over.
I agree that that was fatshark’s intention. The problem arises from there being nothing premium about the full dlc, and 9 euroes is pretty much for a single career and no content, compared to past DLCs, or the base game. While 3.49 is a reasonable price for it, the fact that it has no challenges makes ppl feel robbed.
I applaud the idea of not going overboard with the price - expecially considering how many more careers are coming, likely as standalone dlcs - but for it to be received positively it needed to have the challenges.
2 new frames, a hat, and maybe a different character skin (possibly just a recolour) would have been enough to sell the premium package for most of the buyers - certainly those who left a positive review for it. Sure, they would have made a few less sales, but those are from the ppl who are begruding fatshark for being “forced” to buy the premium package to get the challenges, so it was a choice between earning a bit more or having a more universally well-received product.
I can’t believe this was totally unexpected for them, expecially if you look how in their stream they talk about the skin in details while describing what the premium package has, and then just very quickly mention the challenges. There’s a small awkward pause and that’s it.
5 charecters 5 classes + cosmetic upgrades more than double the price of the base game. They’re asking a lot for very little and they’re trickle feeding it out so they can appease all the things that were on the table before winds of magic and are now just not going to happen.
Im still keen for the progression system to be fixed, a few of those frustrating bugs that just never seem to die, some good maps that don’t punish you for playing them (see fix the progression.loot system) dedicated servers and some decent skins that arent just recolours or tweaks. I swear I cant tell teh difference between half the sienna kit.
So on its own, not a the biggest deal but this far down the road with all the other behaviour its just digging more into consumers are expendable category.
15 bucks is as much as a good indie game on special.
