Precision guns are way too difficult to use when you're not a Veteran

tl;dr : Precision guns handle like sh!t and are too ineffective when you’re not a Veteran, whose kit makes them feel actually decent to use.
I would suggest they reduce recoil and sway across the board and slightly nerf the Veteran’s active ability and ‘Deadshot’ so that he stays mostly unchanged.

I’ve been trying to use less mobile melee weapons, and to compensate for that, I’ve tried incorporating the semi auto guns and lasguns on my Zealot to switch things up from the Braced guns and the Flamer. My disappointment is immeasurable. (But my day is not ruined though).

There are 4 main issues when it comes to using these types of guns on Zealot (and maybe Psyker if you want to be a walking meme) :

  • The recoil

If you’ve played any FPS in the last 10 years you are probably aware that Dartkide’s idea of accuracy, recoil and sway is excessively punishing and unfun.

For example, the Vraks Headhunter Mk VII sounds good on paper, but in practice, it has a huge recoil problem, and you need to wait forever between shots unless you’re a Veteran, where using Deadshot or pressing F will negate these disadvantages. Same problem to a lesser degree with the Kantrael lasguns. Basically, if you want to be accurate and attempt headshots on gunners, it takes a very long time to line up your shots. Which leads immediately to my second point :

  • Suppression

On Heresy and above you cannot suppress or stagger multiple gunners with semi-auto guns. Should you be facing more than 2 gunners at once you will almost immediately be suppressed, unless you kill them very quickly, which is difficult with the guns that have recoil problems. If you’re lucky, your gun has the blessing ‘Between the Eyes’ which can help. Obviously, if you’re a Veteran, you only need to tap F to fix this.

  • Ammo

The Revolver and shotgun problem, notably. Special mention to the Burst-fire autoguns, because they’re such a huge waste of ammo when you can’t afford to waste any if you’re not a Veteran.

  • The ironsights

Nothing new here. Everybody’s pretty much aware that, not counting the Kantrael lasguns, 95% of the ironsights are terrible and should offer improved visibility. I mean, just take a look at this :

How am supposed to quickly differentiate between the dark backgrounds of most maps and the tip of the ironsight ?

Th problem with autoguns is they all have a worse recoil when shouldered for some reason unknown to the player.

It makes absolutely no sense.
If you want to use any autogun you have to shoot 1-3 shots max before repeating to manage the recoil, which is not a bad mechanic but is of’course never explained in the game.
But then you don’t kill anything like that efficiently.

Sadly, precision autoguns are just not working as they are indeed.

So the Headhunter autoguns have just been buffed with 1.0.25 so part of this is now obsolete, oops

There goes.

Unless you shoot at max firerate (which i doubt, since it takes a while to switch target), there is no big issue with aiming for the head.
To me it makes sense that you might have to shoot below max firerate if you want to do headshots only (even against ogryn).

The recoil isn’t that bad, its just not you know, call of duty lazer beams, honestly of they made the recoil easy to deal with it would make the guns feel way worse and diminish the value of trigger discipline which whether you agree or not, knowing not to go whole hog is a skill.

Yes these guns have full auto, but, full auto isn’t for every engagement, you should only be blasting rapid fire of your trying to A pin down a bunch of shooters or B hitting a big target.

Trigger discipline saves ammo, increases your over all damage ( at the cost of damage per second)

In short, take your time, line up your shots, make them count

The quitessencial veteran player then.

Takes the camo perk.
Takes a precision rifle.
Takes his sweet time aiming for weak spots.
Does NOT take the highlight for teammates perk.
Took out 12% of enemies in the last horde, focusing on basic shooters.

“Man, these PUG suck, 2 guys dead just in the last horde, psykers are useless.”

Hey we’ve all been here when trying to roleplay a bad ass headhunter rifle.

Nope.
Too busy highlighting targets in the (vain) hope that the group notices, checking the rear, and taking out or suppressing the ranged and elites to bother with that.

Frankly I don’t see what your complaining about.
Its a freaking semiauto or burst-fire rifle. You aim for the head if going for a one-hit kill or just below if using multiple shots so the recoil drags the followups to the head. Rinse and repeat with the occasional bash if a walker does get close. You don’t need a vet to make that work. Maybe to play in to it, but guns ARE the veterans thing you know…

Half of that is intended. (recoil/sway, suppression)
The other half is problem of wrong weapon type used in wrong way(shotgun is not a dps machine, it’s not a great weapon and mostly is a stagger tool; revolver is a sidearm that is clearly not meant to be used constantly).
And ironsight → immeasurably complex to complete weapon customization to add some scopes. (probably pay2win skins that include different sights later)

Ghosthits make headshots not that great anyway even if you don’t have recoil/sway.
