Positive discrimination is needed for console players and I know how to do it

Console players are minority at this point and it probably will stay that way. I am as a console player constantly deal with frustration from PC players. They see my platform logo and all the frames and insignias or cosmetics from penance rewards prove nothing. Forum topics appear here and there with demands to disable cross play like we’re have some kind of plague. I understand from where the frustration is coming from as many console players are casual players and the game itself is on a gamepass so it would be logical to assume that console players is what holding PC players back whether it’s true or not on a global scale, it’s just the perception.

Even in a premade group I constantly seen as an inferior member even though we didn’t have a run with this specific person. If someone dies that’s because of luck. If I die that’s because I am a console player. If the team is performing sub par this is of course me. It’s not always like that but when it is it feels bad.

Disabling cross play for Xbox also doesn’t make justice to players like me since the game becomes single player as European servers have little to none Xbox players. Matchmaking is hell so I think cross platform is mandatory for Xbox users right now. And even if there were players the problem stays the same - casual players playing any free game on their GamePass.

What I propose is a player buff, if he uses gamepad. Or at least plays on console with a gamepad. How good this buff should be is very simple to identify, just compare win rate of PC and console players and buff console players until their win rate won’t be on par with PC players. Simple, logical, and fair approach.

It can be a simple toggle in game options.

The very same mechanics is implemented in Borderlands 3, you can enable easier mode but only for you, not your team. And it works and Borderlands 3 has no such problem. No lower rewards, no other punishments, a simple free of charge for everybody’s experience toggle. And you can play with your kids or friends that are not that interested in higher difficulties.

It doesn’t matter if you’re a PC player or a console player, if you support my proposal please write a comment so FatShark will actually pay attention to that. It will make game both more approachable for both console players and PC players, since both of the player groups feel disparity right now.

And there is enough of disparity already: PC players can use mods to hack auspex, to search for grimoires, to show enemy health, to disable psyker from blowing, to see statistics, etc etc etc all kinds of stuff. And they use keyboard and mouse. Of course they will see us in inferior position.

I understand that if doesn’t matter if I am personally a good player. Surely not the best but good for the amount of hours played. But that doesn’t fix the problem of the average console player and the perception of console players in a whole.

don’t worry, 80% of the console players will be gone in like a year. consoles favor pushing you into new games every few months because it pushes more console sales to keep the newest games populated. we’ll forget you console serfs exist and go back to raging about the hackers using mods to ruin the game soon enough.

You guys having additional stats, or damage output for being on console wouldn’t help at least my perception of console players. You might be correct regardless.

Either way only speaking for myself I don’t mind having to carry. It’s a good challenge, and helps me improve my own skill. Maybe its a d*ck assumption that I’ll have to carry, but so far it’s been proven invariably correct on Aurics.

My suggestion is use tilt controls if you want to play this game at a high level . Controllers seem to be perfectly fine for even twitch shooters if you use those.

That, or there’s a KBM for Xbox (but at a certain point why not just get a PC).

According to the recent leak Microsoft may introduce this in 2024, but right now only PS5 has gyros in their gamepads. And DarkTide is Xbox exclusive at the moment.

But I would love to use tilt, this is really a game changer.

Didn’t know that. Hope they do. It really massively bridges the gap between KBM, and controller.

Controller users suffer more on higher difficulty, because the janky movement does not really matter on low difficulty.

Game has been out longer on pc, and as you mention yourself, it is available on gamepass.
The average experience of players on the same difficulty (at least on the higher difficulties) will quite likely be much higher for pc players because of that.
So you would not buff gamepad users to be equal, to equals, but to be equal to players with much more experience (on top of the different input device).

Not sure if buffing those less experienced and less responsive players like crazy, would actually help with the issue.
I think it would probably make the situstion worse, by allowing even worse players to succeed with even more reckless behavior.

Experience is way less important than you would think, a professional runner with short legs can have all the time in the world but will not finish first. Diver with smaller lungs will be also capped lower in his results.

If two boxers compete in a fight without any rules wins the one with a gun.

When you shoot, what experience do you use? You use the whole hand to shoot. Console player uses one finger. Experience is of course a factor too, though I would care much about it for now.

Game is balanced on how players perform, it doesn’t live in a vacuum. So right now the game is balanced around mouse and keyboard players. Console players can’t even use some commands because there is only so much buttons. With console release I see some moves towards making game more approachable, but it shouldn’t be easier for PC players because they don’t want it. It should put PC and console players on the same level. And the instrument for it: statistics. Too much wins this months? Will debuff gamepad players a bit next month. That exactly how balancing works in any other case.

I get your point but it doesn’t make sense in a PvE environment. Unless you want to compare a m/k player results to gamepad player results, which doesn’t make sense. I want a friendly space and want to be as competitive as any other player since I paid the same money for the game as everyone else.

And tbh I never understood achievements with high requirements. There are people who have only one arm or cannot tell one color from another. They paid for the game, paid for the specific expensive adaptive controller just to bump into the glass ceiling.

I was a long time PC player, now I have health issues while using mouse. For work I use Wacom tablet, for games I use gamepad. I can’t play knife zealot because my finger hurts, I cannot turn quickly enough and I also need to experience players quitting the looby once they see console user. That’s just doesn’t make sense. Though I think I am not a bad player. The most pay 2 win is using mouse and keyboard and all okay with that right? Nobody ramps up difficulty for them.

If the requirements are low, it is not really an achievement, is it?
There is no need to give everyone a participation trophy.
People need to stop feeling entitled to everything.

If there is a challenge that you can not beat, that is okay.
Nobody is forcing you to complete them.

Yes and when trying to compete with a fully functioning person, they are gonna be at a disadvantage in regard to all kinds of things.
That‘s life.

There is no need to cripple everyone else, or to hold everyone to a lower standard, just because disabled people exist.

When disabled people want to compete, they usually compete amongs themselves, so that they have an even playing field.
So if anything, your own example would speak for disabling crossplay (which is not what i think should happen).

Lol

Well that sucks to hear. I do not think that quitting a lobby, just because someone plays on console, is the right thing to do.

Ive played since closed beta on PC, truly i am personally beyond the point of caring about platform. I have played this game so much that i just want to play a few games, kill heretics then log off. The people that are that elitist about the game are absolute basement dwelling nerds

It is. The difference is that it is a game and everyone paid the same price and should get the same experience if they apply the same level of dedication. I am wearing A and M sized clothes, but it cost the same as XXXL right? By your logic I should pay less. So why am I paying the same as the XXXL guys? Equality.

If you paid for it tou should have the same rights as any other buyer. Including an equal right to win.

It’s okay if it depends on your skill. For every other reason the answer is the same: everyone should have equal rights to achieve things in their games.

I would suppose you don’t have issues with hands or sight and you’re playing on keyboard an mouse on PC. Again, that’s not a life that’s a game.

In a game with console and PC players in the same team, how is the win ratio supposed to be a meaningful statistic for individual performance? The best player can lose a round if the other 3 team mates are playing worse than bots. And vice versa the worst player can be carried to a win by 3 good team mates.

And the game does not prevent console players from playing as there are different difficulties to choose from.

You have the right to play the game.
And you have the same rights in the game, as any other customer.
But paying for a game, does not entitle you to clear it at any difficulty.
What the hell are you on about?

It has nothing to do with that it s genetic thing. Not eyesight, but my hand problem.

Talking about entitlement, I wonder how someone else’s game experience affect yours. Let’s say gamepad users have this switch, does it affect you somehow negative? Or you just want to be everyone equal to your preferences? You will be able to pick up gamepad and play and get the same easier experience I propose. The same way I can pick up mouse and keyboard. Well I actually cannot do it, only for half an hour at best, but in your terms that passes as equality.

So how peoples experience make yours worse? Other people should align your way so to speak. Sounds like an entitlement to me.

PvP game? I can understand. Cyber Sport events? Same. Paid game?

First RE4 PC port didn’t support mouse. Is it entitlement asking to add support for it? For me it’s a common sense.

Japanese releases were easier than their NA releases, an entitlement? Common sense again.

There is life and there are games. And “that’s life” part of the game is buying it, playing the game in English localization that’s life too. Achievements in games? There are there to achieve them.

The most hardcore game difficulties are not actually hardcore, they have win rate. If it was life you would probably be dead each Darktide match. I don’t get your life reasoning at all.

All I am asking is a separate balancing for us console players. And you remember my initial post, why do I ask for it?

Because of PC players crying how bad we are. Not because of our skill but because of stupid Xbox icon on our profile. It’s all about PC players again - speaking about entitlement again.

Wanting everyone to be treated equally is now considered entitlement?
What?

They are there to give you something to chase and to work towards.
Not for everyone to just get them.

And not everyone will get them.
Either because they do not care, or because they are not capable.

There are enough participation trophy penances.
No need for you to take away all of the penances that are actually difficult.
THAT would be entitlement.

What are you on about?

Again, what are you on about?

You want to discriminate an entire group of people, based on the actions of a few individuals.
You want to remove all challenges, so that everyone can „achieve“ everything.
People like you getting what they want, will be the downfall of society.

How about instead of changing the game entirely just to serve console players: instead people just grow moderately thicker skins and stop worrying about mean words on the internet of all places?

From my own experience, I really don’t think disabling cross play will fix the real issue. Yes, 9 out 10 times I have a terrible player on my team they are a none Steam player (don’t know if they are pc or console). I think the real issue is players jumping into difficulties that they are not ready for, and just expecting others to carry them. Just last night I have a level 19 none steam player in a level 4-5 high intensity STG. With their low level and crap unleveled gear, they lacked the experience for this difficult level. They died over and over and we just managed to carry them to victory. New players really need to understand their limits and work their way up, not expect other to carry them.

I tried to follow your logic, but it seems so insane I’m not sure I’m following it properly, so I’ll just ask.

Are you asking for modifiers (buffs) for players based on equipment used and/or health status?

I came from V2 on console until I bought a PC, I hear ya.

I got to disagree. I came from console and could always keep up. Sure, I had trouble with the Ratling Gunners, but I would find cover and survive. Believe it or not, but you will become a better player if you just keep at it.

The controller style is different from the MKB but in no way does a controller/console need a buff.

The sad part is the in-game community has a short tolerance for failure.

As a solution. I think the option to toggle chat on/off would be great.

this! an achievement everybody gets as participation throphy is worth exactly nothing.
nor is paying for something a free ticket to all its content when there are clear difficulty settings involved to adress seperate skill levels.

me having a membership to a gym doesnt automatically entitle me to lift 80kg dumbells, neither is lifting babyweights anything worth achieving when the big guys throw tons around and you want to participate in “their” environment.

as for the other complains, its called DISability for a reason.
and that reason doesnt imply those able should be toned down in pursuit of the utmost possible.

personally i f’ed up both shoulders pushing beyond my limits and had to accept, no matter the amount of gear, i’m not build to perform on the upper level.

what baffles me is the negative asociation when it comes to “elite”

those at the top proved things possible mere mortals could only dream about until then.no matter the field, sports, science, music and yes gaming.

when lifting i was inspired by arnold, when competing ingame i would watch matches from those at the very top as well to get ideas on how to improve.

when was inspiration switched with envy?

no matter how you look at it, peoples performance is never equal, nor can certain gaps be overcome. still those outperforming and pushing the boundaries earned their place at the top.

you play a game for passtime: there are a variety of lower difficulties for that.
you enjoy to perform at your utmost maximum: thats what the highest diff is for and should be rewarded in terms of prestige.

Just my position…

But I don’t really care. I make assumptions about players more based on their true level than anything. I have played with console players using Ogyrn and shotguns and melee on damnation and some of them seem ok. Beat the twins damnation (not hard mode) with an Xbox Ogyrn with true level ~100 and they did good.

Mouse and keyboard will matter more than controller and you can use them on console. I also don’t mind carrying a player or two.

I think, which most games do (and probably Darktide? I don’t use a controller) is to add an auto aim feature. To allow controllers have any chance in hell at competing with a mouse you have some level of auto aim, to weakpoints as well to assist. In competitive games this would maybe not be the case, but in a cooperative game like this I think giving aim assist to controllers, xbox or steam or whatever, would be the only type of “buff” we should be giving out.

Additionally I think if Darktide learned a thing or two from Vermintide 2 (cataclysm giving the same rewards as legend) and separated the content that’s designed for the “sweats” and “try hards” from the missions that give the greatest reward there would probably be less frustration. As well as fixing crafting.

Issue goes like this.

Issue:

Crafting sucks, I need more tickets for the casino. What should I do?

Go play damnation, that’s where you get the most. Maybe even Auric.

I am not that good, but I struggle because this is how to farm. Hopefully slab has big enough shoulders for me.

Fail, get frustrated have people tell me I suck. Bad experience, maybe I stop playing the game. They say I am an X-bot.

Solution:

1.) Fix crafting.
2.) Make Auric/Malestrom give no better rewards than Damnation. Maybe just cosmetic frames or something.
3.) Give aim assist to controllers (if not already done)

Expected result:

A.) If my skill level is only good enough for malice, then I stay at Malice if it’s reasonable for me to get good gear here. Maybe I go to damnation but at least not Auric/Malestrom

B.) I am a sweats player, no one with bad gear/ bad skill comes here trying to farm plastell and ordos. Only those who want the challenge. I get angry less and make less (or no) threads about X-bot players sucking.

I could be wrong, but just my thoughts with little anecdotal experience.
