Hello fellow Rejects. Here a reject who was confused for the longest time, about which shooty to use to do hurty to bad Heretics. Maybe you felt similiar? Then this thread is for you:
Context:
As may you have already experienced, this game’s weapons come with different “marks”, each different from another. At first glance one might make the experience that several fast firing, High DPS guns with weak individual bullets are blue and extrapolate that all the guns across the board are color coded. However, this is not the case. Neither the Weapon Color, weapon design nor the Weapon Manufacturer names give any hint as to what the weapon the weapon represents.
To me, this is a greatly missed opportunity for intuitive and genius Game Design. But how do you feel about this?
An examples for the avid reader below:
Summary
The “Columnus MK V Infantry Autogun” is the fastest firing Infantry Autogun and it’s a blue gun.
The “Graia MK VIII Infantry Autogun” has an intermediate firing speed and intermediate damage per bullet. It is brown.
The “Agripinaa MK I Infantry Autogun” has the slowest firing speed of all Infantry Autoguns and the highest damage per bullet fired. It is green.
If we take a look at the Braced Autoguns, things no longer match.
The “Graia MK IV Braced Autogun” is now blue and has fast firing speed with slow bullet damage.
The “Columnus MK II Braced Autogun” is now the gun with intermediate firing speed and damage per bullet. And it’s color is now green.
The “Agripinaa MK VII Braced Autogun” is the strongest, slowest firing Braced Autogun and it’s brown.
It gets more confusing:
The Ogryn’s “Achlys Mk VII Twin-Linked Heavy Stubber” is the most “light-weight” Twin Stubber and it’s brown.
The Ogryn’s “Krourk Mk V Twin-Linked Heavy Stubber” is the middle ground with it’s green color.
The Ogryn’s “Gorgonum Mk IV Twin-Linked Heavy Stubber” is the strongest, slowest firing Stubber. And it is blue.
Previous Dev Response:
Summary
In a dev response from Sebgra, it was previously unveiled that any matching color and / or weapon manufacturer names are rather coincidental:
Hello! I work on the combat team, and can hopefully answer this, or at least shine some lights on it.
When we (as in the combat team) set up weapons we usually go by the models of them. Bigger or heavier looking ranged weapons tend to get tweaked towards the low RoF/high damage spectrum, while smaller and ligher looking ones go the other way.
That there’s been a pattern of blue-ish weapons being fast and light while orange-ish ones being slow and heavy (and the green-ish being a middle ground) is actually a pure coincidence from the balancing point of view. For the damage (and fire rate and therefore total damage output), it will of course depend on how the stats are rolled, so I’m going to base this on all stats being set to 50%. And with that baseline the Mk VId will deal less damage per shot than the Mk II.
But when including other things like the firerate being about 50% faster, similar spread as the Mk II while aiming, and being more mobile in general, the Mk VId might very well be overshadowing the Mk II by too much.
In short, I’ll poke a designer on my team about this for potential tweakage of damage or other settings, as I’m just a lowly programmer.

Now for the polls:
Did you previously believe, that weapons were coded by color or name?
- Wait! They are not?!
- Yes, I initially believed so. I found out the hard way they’re not. opens drawer full of stuff
- No, but I only found out by reading about it beforehand elsewhere (chat with friends / wikia / websites / etc.).
- No, I was never confused by this at all. This is no issue.
Would you prefer it if weapons were more easily recognizable?
- Yes, all weapons should be both, color- and name-coded. A single glance should be conclusive. Identification builds purpose!
- Yes, all weapons should primarily be color-coded. Seeing is believing!
- Yes, all weapons should primarily be name-coded. Words are power!
- Technically speaking yes, but I’d rather not see Fatshark put any meaningful time or energy changing this. It’s okay.
- No. It’s fine. It presents an opportunity for learning. We the community will help the newcomers get there.
If you had to come up with a solution, what would you pick?
- Brown is strong, Green is the middle way, Blue is fast. > >

- I’d rather have it sorted by names. All Agripina’s must be strong, all Graia’s fast, etc.
- WAAAGGHHHH! The fastest weapon has to be red.

RED IS FASTEST! And I don’t care or desire no change
