Please Rework Private Penances

I understand this requirement was added for these penances because they were viewed as disruptive to public matches… the solution seems to be to rework them to be achievable within public matches without being disruptive, not to force us to try to create a private party.

The beauty of Darktide is that you can play with randoms and still have a great time with great teammates, no need to know them or even communicate beyond the occasional ping or maybe a message in chat.

I don’t understand why this requirement was implemented rather than changing the penances to fit within public lobbies like the entire rest of the game. :smiling_face_with_tear:

Just remove them from the game and give out the rewards behind them to every player.

agree, it’s really irritating when the only penance keeping you from a “master of war” title is hidden behind a private game.

case here: malleus monstronum for psyker and just a flesh wound for zealot.

and i tried getting that red jacket with a candle recently by playing the train map on low int heresy, courtesy of the mmt mod in a private game… except it didn’t get me the jacket.

angry scotsman wants to know, are operations maps not qualified?

Right, I can definitely understand your irritation. You could have spent hundreds of hours in Darktide without ever knowing private matches even exist, yet they are preventing you from progressing.

Again, I get that Fatshark added the stipulation of private matches to avoid disruptive gameplay to public lobbies. Unless I’m missing something about these penances though, could they not have been entirely reworked to not be disruptive?

Seems like we have a temporary fix at the moment. While I understand this isn’t the biggest issue in the world in terms of priorities, I do hope they eventually get a chance to change it.

I’ll still keep loving Darktide though, either way.

My .02, I like all these solutions. At this point just give out the private mode penances to everyone to be done with them. Then FS learn from this misstep and never create penances that potentially cause these issues again. Then create new, interesting but achievable, penances to replace the ones you just resolved. And, add solo mode. The time for this easy feature addition is long past overdue.

we begged for that early on… and the end result was the just made them require private games - a rework would be nice, but seems unlikely at this point

You may be right. I don’t think it’s all that unlikely as Fatshark has shown they are willing to go back and make changes to systems and rework them. I can understand if it’s not the biggest priority in comparison to other reworks and updates though.

Especially as not many of my fellow forum users seem to feel all that passionate about this issue. Still hopeful they decide to change it at some point! :grin:

They are as disruptive are martyr skulls are when you need 2 players…
In fact, this is penances you cannot do if the team don’t collaborate. Even the one where you kill a monstrosity alone as a psyker needs a cooperation from your team. In fact, they need to protect you when you fight it alone.
So, it needed one thing. That a player asks and that others would want helping him. But they have just put these penances behind a wall… the private game.

I am sorry, there’s no need to change them. There’s just a need to remove the private game tag.

When there were not forbidden in public games, I have helped a lot of guys… I have also refused sometimes, or also, I had to kill myself the monstrosity cause the psyker could not do it and where we would have wiped at one time. So not a big deal to communicate in a cooperation game. I won’t talk in english, I have a french accent… that’s horrible, even worse than my writing. However, I can type in chat a yes or a no… and even explain the why if I am against…

I think you’ve made a fair point. I would be perfectly willing to help others with whatever penance in a public match if they asked nicely. Like many others probably wouldn’t mind in many cases… so it’s probably not even all that necessary to have the restriction to begin with.

As an aside, I think it would be lovely to hear a french accent from my teammates. :heart_eyes: Your english is good too! Too bad I’m on US servers, we don’t have the luxury of hearing all the wonderful European accents. :smiling_face_with_tear:

I have every penance completed for each class EXCEPT those two private penances and the subsequent penances they gatekeep. I am utterly committed to this game but I refuse to find a party of randoms to try and get these penances. I will continue to be at 57/60 on my main class and be unhappy about it. I will NEVER do them.

You can find players that can help you. I can understand how frustrating it sounds and I think the same as you. exactly why I want a solo mod.

Out of curiosity, what are these penances? I suppose there is the psyker that has to kill a monstrosity. Maybe someone can help you on this forum.
I could eventually, especially cause I have got help from users here.

Fatshark may be dumb, but this community is really great.

This doesn’t change the fact that the private tag should be removed from all penances.

I will focus on Zealot as that is my main:

Private penance: Only a Flesh Wound. I am paraphrasing, but you have to complete a heresy or higher in under 20 mins with less than half a wounds health. *Private game mandatory

Gatekept penances: The two remaining penances both require Just a Flesh wound to complete. (Master of War or whatever it is called. Basically the ones that require all previous penances to be complete).

Meanwhile I was able to smoke out my entire team for several maps getting the Veteran smoke grenade penance. LOL dont want to promote unteamly play and all.
