Bunch of cowboys.

I agree that Arbites is OP but this is not how you use the meme

There, fixed it for you! Higher difficulty darktide is a buggy inconsistent Elite/Spec spamfest that results in the engine performing very inconsistently because it simply cannot handle the load that it requires to match players like Bully Tauntgryn, Hound Arbites with Concussive etc.

What should feel rewarding - dodging attacks, blocking, pushing etc can turn into silent burster popping up around a corner because the engine needs to play the sound cues of 3 Flamers, 5 Crushers, 5 Bulwarks, 2 tox bombers, hounds, 6+ Gunners/Shotgunners up the hallway and a few Trappers for giggles or overheads eaten even though clearly the dodge was completed only to die a second later.

Fatshark probably won’t go too heavy handed, if they decide to nerf anything at all. But not reducing the Elite/Spec sound cue strain is a big mistake, so hopefully at the least they’re considering ways to reduce their density while keeping them challenging enough to feel rewarding when they’re defeated.

So this meme gave me an idea to try it out in the psykhanium and…

48 Auric Scab Bombers in one shot, first attempt

Silly Vera, everyone knows crushers ain’t got no souls sound cues.

Why do you feel like every player should be able to beat Auric?

just delete this mess of a class until it’s compatible with the game. The player count is already lower than before the release of this thing xd
nobody would miss him

The amount of memes here warrants Liquid explaining Big Chungus

Ok including Crushers was a mistake, but that’s beside the point.

Damnation and Auric are highly inconsistent spam fests that either feel too easy - the majority of team (3+ players) is using strong or overpowered builds and knows what they’re doing so it’s 24/7 AOE/stagger to the point Elites/Specs are completely nonexistent, or it’s let’s throw clown cars of Bursters/Elites at players until sound cues don’t play at all.

If you’re a player using a build that doesn’t max AOE/stagger, with teammates who are hyper aggressive to the point of overextension - easy to do on an overpowered AOE/stagger focused build, then it’s even worse when the “we’re going to spawn everything at once so your blocks/dodges/pushes are pointless” moment hits.

I’m surprised to see it but you’re right, player count has been lower throughout August than it has been before Arbitrator’s release

That’s insane, and during AUGUST too.

Im shocked people are blaming the arbites on this…. its low because the experience was playing arbites, and now its over people have left like I may leave soon too becaue ive got nothing to aim for.

I’m not sure if I would blame it on Arby when FS goes on vacation and leaves their game in a worsened state for a month. But having an easy mode locked behind 11.99€ certainly doesn’t help either.
There were more players in June before Arby’s release than there are players right now, I wonder what’s up with that. Maybe making the game easier has damaged the game’s depth and people are just chewing their way through wins to the point that playing no longer matters.

Precisely. Winning in Auric PUGs usually means spamming AOE attacks and stagger through a mosh pit of Elites and Specialists. Anything else and your dumped on by a ridiculous amount of Specialists.

Most players feel that once they’ve earned titles or achievements, it means they’ve “cleared” the game, and so they move on to the next one.
Naturally, the Havoc 40 title is something anyone can easily obtain under the current conditions, with the difficulty completely broken, so it’s hard to really feel a sense of progression or that your skills are gradually improving.
That’s why I think more people quit the game after getting the Steam achievement or Havoc 40 title than before. At the very least, if the Havoc 40 title could only be earned by clearing it as the host, the situation would have been a bit different.

I know I was one of the players playing near religiously before Arbite released, enjoying making and refining and testing builds just for the heck of it, building up my roster and finishing up the penances at my own pace. Was having a good time, and constantly felt like ‘I want to go play this build again, now I want to do this build again, now I want to jump to this other character and do this build again-’.

Since Arbites release, that feeling died. One Arbite with a dog ruins an Auric match completely, and any build you’re trying to ‘test’ for it’s viability becomes unfounded/the results are inconclusive as you have to deal with a heresy/malices worth of enemies while the arbite deals with the rest. Havoc is a bore with Arbite, while playing it without one is a travesty as the community at large is so placated by it that they physically can not function without the crutch anymore. And with the game so easy, the ‘clutch plays’ and ‘invigorating wins’ aren’t even fun, as you don’t feel like you’re fighting on a ‘razors edge’ just spam clicking your buttons and auto winning while questioning how anyone else is having trouble. You even bringing it up with the event a week or so ago, your entire team dies, and it’s just better to let them die and solo the mission than it is to actually try and res them during the fight, that’s actually horse but it’s the truth and has completely destroyed the fun of the game for a vast majority.

Turns out, sure 30k+ casual players certainly enjoy popping back into your game when you release a new thing, but 5-6K players loved the game for what it was and kept it’s consistent player count afloat because of it. Arbite killed that, now you just got the 4-5k left who are either new players poking it, or the UBBER dedicated desperately trying to still feel something while playing the game. It’s super saddening, I said it way back but when Arbite released I was super excited to make builds for them, thinking it would be like the other classes where I’d have multiple playstyles to choose from and be able to make a bunch of different set ups.

The guy has like 4 weapons and they all clear the room in seconds, every one of his playstyles played the same, and he’s the ONLY class in the video game I made, tested, and got bored with every single build I could think of before I got close to even finishing the 100 missions with him, verses the others who I got to 200-300+ and still have the desire to play them. The arbite is a cool fantasy, but his numbers completely ruined the game, and the player count shows it.

Even now, new event, patch that fixed Arbite, player count barely hitting 6k, instead of shooting back up to the 10k+ you’d expect. If that isn’t daming evidence powercreep kills games, I don’t know what is. ‘Turns out, enjoyable challenge = longevity, it’s why older games locked in their perpetually good state continue to see play even today, L4D2 being the main comparison, while games that continually try and push ever upward without keeping that in mind, eventually perish with nobody caring about them. Because as Syndrome always says, ‘When everyone’s super, no one will be’, and when you’re playing a game to feel powerful, it’s hard to feel that way when there’s no avenue of comparison/everyone’s just as strong as you are regardless of hour count’.

I want to add the context that I was playing FOTF Zealot with throwing knives in that game, I’m sure that if I had access to AoE stagger, stealth or psyker’s kinetic deflection I’d have been able to convert some of my revive attempts into an actually successful one. (But stealth kinda sucks for fighting)

Buildcrafting on the arbite is pointless. You just romp through missions, no change in tactics. I bet the majority of players couldn’t even tell that 2/3 keystones were doing nothing for the last month.
