Guys!!! You heard it here first: if you try to get your moneys worth out a game you are not allowed to complain.
LOL
A few things:
-
A thumbs down (ânegativeâ) review on Steam is not negative or positive, itâs whether the reviewer would recommend it to other people. You can personally enjoy something and feel that you wouldnât want to recommend it to other people, regardless of hours.
-
People can enjoy something but want to make parts of it better or less annoying.
-
The core gameplay has near universal acclaim. Most reviews have âthe missions themselves are fun while youâre playing butâŚâ and almost always the but is the progression and itemisation systems.

I donât want the loot system to be the same as Vermintide 1 or 2, I want it to be better. Right now what we have is a time gated gacha system where gameplay doesnât affect what loot you get at all. They managed to delink the itemisation and the playing part of the game completely somehow.
so I wonât argue about gameplay, mainly because no one is asking them to take out the ranged, at most they are asking for more resilience to the ogryn against it and for it to do less control (not being push back two meters per bullet). And I agree that the gameplay is quite nice.
I like the looting of material in game too.
But outside of the mission Vtide is clearly above, be it with five time the amount of playable caracters, the better control on what you wished to play through the craft, more option on the communication wheel (although the ping is a great addition), better bots, shortcuts to the different positions, far cheaper premium cosmetics, more unicness per class with fully individual weapons (even similar weapons often had class variation).
Red item arenât âgod weaponâ it was pretty easy to have orange weapons with similar stats, and getting the good weapons and set still took some time.
As to why I am playing this game I would mention four points:
my friends are on it
itâs still feel new
Iâm a completionist and I want all four class at lvl 30 so I can choose who to play.
gameplay is still nice.
But there is no doubt for me that in one month at best my group will probably switch back to Vtide regularly as caracters and missions are much more interesting and divers (thanks to chaos waste).
Darktide is a mostly good game but on many points they diverged rather than evolved, and didnât used the years of info the tide should have provided.
And the lack of insentive to try high difficulty is also quite obvious, itâs always more interesting to play difficulty 1-2 (faster, more loot, more contract down, less risk of faiilure depending on the teamâŚ)
I see some people want to be able to roll their perfect weapons right away, by requesting you to make them able to roll all perks and surely also all blessings. Please dont do that, that would ruin the long time motivation so drastically, it already hurts to think about it. Sometimes you have to protect the players from themselfs and you as developer know this very well. This is such a case, dont make this game to lame, dont make godly rolled items to easy obtainable.
I hope you think the same way here, as i do
Username checks out!
If by âgear huntâ you mean âlogging in hourly to check the shop and then logging outâ then I say f*ck the current gear hunt.
Both ways described here are bad.
- Rerolling everything until you have the perfect Statblock
- Logging in once an Hour to check a Store
Rerolling everything would be bad. Yes, currently it would be better than logging in once an hour, but complete Freedom would also not solve it.
Crafting Weapons and then customizing them a little with this Feature could be more balanced. Craft Weapons until you get one stat you want, then roll the other one.
You seemingly donât think at all but make decisions with the part of your brain that is soaked in dopamine from gambling addiction. Genuinely, not meant as an insult, get help please!
Currently, the only ways to get the gear you want or is adequate for crafting, is to check the hourly RNG store as well as the RNG based Sire Melk. The emperorâs gifts are even worse RNG and capped at twenty per week. This isnât a hunt itâs a WAIT.
Itâs not a gear âhuntâ. Itâs a gear lottery. You donât even have any control over which weapon type you get, and the difficulty you play and secondary objectives and such have no influence over what the lottery gives out.
Seriously, if your motivation to play Darktide ends the moment you get your gear topped out, you might prefer another game. Like a slot machine. Not evdn a dig at you; Iâm serious. Youâre literally saying here that the gameplay is secondary to logging in to wait what scraps the time-limited RNG store throws at youâŚ
Also, I think there is nothing wrong with eventually being able to reroll everything untill itâs maxed out. Thatâs also not at all the same as wanting god rolls right away, like you are repeatedly strawmanning people critical of the itemisation system across these forums. Itâs infinitely better to actively grind for an upgrade than it is to wait out a random store for one passively. And wanting a path to perfect weapons is not the same as wanting them instantly.
In contrary to you I find the itemisation system is actively suppressing my motivation to play Darktide. It feels bad to play my single character because I only have a single good weapon, and the store seems to refuse to give me a good weapon of a different type or an upgrade. Playing the map is fun in itself, but Iâm very limited in my choices about how to play, which is demotivating. And nothing I can do will improve my situation other than waiting out the karking store anyways. And Iâve deliberated levelling another class, but the thought of having to wait for the damn store to even give me the weapon types I want without anything I can do about it makes me lose motivation to do that as well.
Stop being a twerp painting people who dislike the current system as entitled whiners who need to be âprotected from themselvesâ. If you like the current fully RNG-dependant way of distributing loot: Just say that. You are fully in your right to voice your opinion like everybody else. But stop misrepresenting people who disagree with you.
Based on your previous posts on this forum I am now fully expecting a reply which shows you completely misunderstand and / or misrepresent my points, ending with a winking emoji.
Also, you know, the biggest complaint I often heard about Vermintide 2 was how RNG-dependent getting red weapons was. People want to have perfect gear to enjoy gameplay instead of having their interface with the gameplay, in this case, their weapons, getting in the way of the experience.
This is a horde combat game, a system designed around already having the weapons you want, maybe upgrading to a slightly more powerful version mid-mission, and then just mowing down hordes.
The gear grind is nice in the sense that custom tuning a weapon to my needs is nice. Everything else about it is superfluous and complete trash. I would be playing Darktide more if I could just have a perfect weapon instantly for every weapon type once I hit level 30, since I could actually be enjoying Darktide for the style of game it is as itâs meant to be.
No, seriously, I basically stopped playing Darktide because of this insanely idiotic itemization ineptitude.
I played the hell out of L4D and there was literally 0 progression in it. EDIT: Actually, thinking on it, this itemization nonsense is also why I dropped diablo 3 like it was made out of radioactive asbestos lit on fire.
To be fair I donât mind that, under certain condition.
That condition is basically that we get much more loot adn I mean mission drops or any other way than the Armoury.
The rng shop should be a complimentary system not the main source of gear.
If we have enough loot drops from missions, secondaries, monster kills?, etc.
Then the crafting as they see it now may work.
If FS want to keep the loot drops as they are now, they should just revert crafting to at least Vermintide2 model.
The term youâre looking for is a pity system.
In Vermintide 2, the only way to get crafting materials was by deconstructing bad items. But you got a lot of them. Through crafting materials you could:
- Reroll properties endlessly.
- Reroll traits endlessly.
- Upgrade items to the next tier.
- Craft weapons with the item level constrained to something like -5 and +10 item levels of the best item Iâve seen, capping at 300.
Its biggest flaw was that the only way to get red items was purely via drops, or deconstructing 5 red items and upgrading them directly into a bespoke red, which controlled for RNG. The only part without pity was the acquisition of red items themselves, as everything else was thrown at the player hand over fist.
It wasnât good, I despise that being the only method to get red items. However, reds were at least moderately common, say, 5-10% with an emperorâs vault from legend for each slot (I donât know what it actually was), and once I had a red, regardless of skin, I had perfect stats and could move on to the next item on whichever career I wanted to work on next.
Hell, another major part was simply being able to grind for weapons on Bardin by playing Sienna. We donât have that here. Itâs just a terrible system overall.
You donât need to check hourly. Thatâs weirdly obsessive. Itâs a game. Good gear will come. You can complete T5 even with adequate gear.
You guys are so narrow minded. What is better to have a single item in a lootbox after mission or having a shop that give you a whole new selectiong of gear every hour for the hard earned credits you get for the hard work you do for the inquisition.
Have you ever heared the words role play? This shop is kinda the armory of the moning star and from time to time, they get a new shipment of gear for us warriors. Is that so hard to understand. Take a closer look at the previous system and tell me it was more logical. A dice roll after a mission that decides wich weapon you get? From where is that, from wonderland?
Time to wake up and use the brain cells a bit, dont you think?
I donât care about Red items, there are no Reds in DT, so far.
I am talking about current situation.
The problem is, with crafting or without that ppl cannot even get the weapons they want, not to mention the rolls.
So yes the current system is way too stingy with various and/or class specific drops.
I was bringing up the major point. What you were looking for is a pity system, and I was explicitly describing VT2âs pity system. Hell, even VT1 ended up getting a rather substantial pity system.
I would generally agree that they should not create a system where itâs easy to build a perfect item, and then you just donât care about loot anymore.
However, the loot system in Darktide is easily the worst out of any game Iâve recently played, for one big reason: More effort doesnât equal better loot. How much I play this game, what difficulty I play it on, etc. is completely irrelevant to whether or not I get to upgrade my gear
All I need is about 30,000 dockets and 3,000 commendations, and instantly the limiting factor on whether or not I get a better item shifts from me playing missions to me simply looking at the store to check if a better item exists.
There is no progression from one item to another either, I can theoretically simply wait until the perfect item is randomly rolled and added to the store.
So the game has a completely broken reward circuit, where playing the game does absolutely nothing for you.
That in itself is already a massive strike against this game, but on top of that the amount of randomness in actually acquiring the items you want is so excessive that itâs like winning the lottery. Even just being offered the right item on the store is obnoxiously unlikely, to where I go days without even seeing my favorite weapons on offer. Then when one crops up it needs to not only have good stats, which is like a 1% chance at best, but also it needs to have a tier 4 perk you actually want on it.
The likelyhood of getting that is so low that you would have to be playing an ARPG where youâre generating hundreds of weapons every hour for it to feel like a reasonable chance.
Let me ask you a question, in wich time frame should a player be able to obtain what you would call the âperfectâ or âobtimalâ weapon ?
Why is having more loot drops a pity system ? Can you explain ?
I mean call it what you want, but most pity systems I encountered, are besically guaranteed items after spending, or rolling or whatever.
More loot drops does not guarantee you anything, it increases your chances for sure.
