there is more to it then that tbh. Getting US owned OS off systems is becoming a real priority. I’d expect win10 support ending will really push a lot of people to linux, there is no way I would trust a US owned OS for financial transactions now.
Some late thoughts on that: As someone with over 18 years of Linux experience, I wouldn’t put too much hope in that. The same was said about Windows Vista and Windows 8, and it didn’t happen. “The year of the Linux desktop” that actually never comes isn’t a common meme by accident.
Remember the late WhatApp and Twitter/X before everyone left them for Signal and Mastodon? Windows will surely suffer the same fate soon. /s
Recently switched to Bazzite for good. Previously started a post here asking for respite from consistent stutters, frame pacing issues etc. on Windows and tried every single guide here to no avail.
Ever since swapping to Bazzite, haven’t had a single stutter. Even the stutters I got when I entered shop, or got an achievement mid-game are gone. Enabled Wayland and NTSync on top of that just to see how those help, didn’t make much of a difference but they work. I am happy to finally be able to enjoy this game.
I was playing Darktide on Bazzite with no problems and even better performance than on Windows 11, however since like the last update, Darktide’s runs laggy for me.
It’s like walking through water, but FPS counter shows that I’m locked at 60 FPS!
I tried reinstalling the game, disabling mods, and following several suggestions from other Bazzite users like launch options, Proton GE, and more.
I have an RTX 3060 and an I5-13400F, which I know do not work properly under Linux, but only Darktide’s performance has changed.
It’s not just this game, but ever game I have tried so far as seen massive improvements, not in FPS terms, but less stutters, it feels smother and responsive, not pressing keys several times for them to register.
And at same time, not having my privacy invaded and sold at ever opportunity.
It’s been the best choice I have ever made.
And I have also found some great software too.
Dopamine - Media/Music player
OnlyOffice - A free Microsoft office varient
Thunderbird - A great email client
LACT - A GPU utility software
OpenRGB - for your RGB needs
Floorp - Excellet Firefox based web browser
To name but a few of the software I have dabbled in.
With my last PC build I emphasized RGB and the fact that RGB synching is already near impossible on Windows and a total loss on Linux honestly makes me stick to Linux.
The only solution is OpenRGB and it’s not a solution to anything at all.
My bad. I should have researched before getting into this. My next build will be entirely without RGB.
Corsair Mem - RGB
Lian Li 216 - RGB
Ducky Keyboard - RGB
Razer Mouse - RGB
Arctic Freezer III - RGB
Asrock MB
9070XT Red Devil - But that only ever has one colour… Red.
And only use the one one program for all of them… OpenRGB.
But be careful when you download it, to download the right one… You do not want to download the one that opens in big screen mode. Otherwise you will have to shut it down every time you boot your pc.
Dear rejects I have a request, please try it and give me your opinions.
I have been using wayland with ntsync for a while with no issues. However it dawned on me recently: does enabling ntsync automatically disable esync and fsync or do they still work in tandem? So I tried the following launch parameters to disable esync and fsync and only have ntsync enabled.
Now, in order to use ntsync, your kernel version needs to support it and Bazzite’s kernel supports it so there should be no issues. I tried this and it feels better, especially in terms of mouse response. Feels less floaty and more immediate and sharp. However, there is always the placebo effect you should account for. That’s where you come in. Please try these commands and let me know if disabling esync and fsync to make sure the game exclusively runs on ntsync makes a difference for you.
Edited the post. Sorry didn’t even remember to update my post. ProtonGe 10-13 broke wine-wayland support pretty much completely and introduced many more issues, all of which were fixed with following 10-14 and 10-15 versions. Wine-wayland works fine now.
Should be more careful in the future and thanks for the reminder
