Playable characters

Compared to a Sororita, the priestess does look a bit like a human-sized squat.
I know it’s the grimdarkness of the 41st millennium, but it’s almost like Fatshark is allergic to pretty women :poop:

We are here to purge the heretics, having a pretty face is not important.

Oh i disagree with that

There is a reason Fashiontide is a thing

I’m all for the fact that a female character isn’t all encompassingly beautiful. She’s there to serve the Big E on the Throne and in doing so smash heretic in the face with a 2kg hammer.

What next? Bikini armour for Keri? (pls no) although FS would make a chest full of cash from people simping on Keri in skimpy armour.

Also, even if we include a GW repential squad, none of them are particularly attractive.

Nowhere did I suggest we put female characters in bikini armour, bruv.
I only suggested a pretty face, not a supermodel with a big rack and raunchy clothing.
Repentias may not be superbabe material in the face, but they’re still fairly attractive, and certainly of the more “desirable stock” where body mass is concerned.

I would love for Darktide to have no character limit like Vermintide has (Restricted to Ubersreik 5)
Be able to add new heroes every X time.

My bet for a 5th hero would be …

psico

Also Sister of Battle, Eldar Ranger or Tau soldier is fine.

We still don’t really know how careers/characters are set up.

Depending on how dialogue/story is handled, we could potentially have 4 players all running the same character and still remain sensible.

Some people are assuming there will be a variety of careers while others including myself are hoping for a small handful of characters with in depth talent trees, skills and far greater customization; the PC gamer article/magazine left that impression on me at least.

I agree with more heroes added but disagree with the addition of Xenos.

If Xenos are included I demand a Kroot so I can go all “Predator” with ripping out spines, hanging up flayed bodies and so on.

Having good looks does not mean you can’t also have brawns, will and brains to match. Not to mention that GW already have at least two pretty boys Space Marine groups in the Blood Angels and loyalist Emperor’s Children, unless I misremember. And at least the Blood Angels are both good looking and kicking ass 24/7.

I think I can understand Fatshark’s motive in not wanting to focus the women characters on their looks, which attractive looks may do, but like @ArkBlanc said you don’t need to look like a super model to look good.

Personally I wouldn’t mind playing better looking characters but then I also don’t agree that the priest looks bad, and it isn’t a big issue for me, its worth to comment on but not to make or break the game.

Well, I also hope for at least one more playable character, and my hope would be for an adeptus mechanicus one.

If the game “copies” V2, each character will have at start 3 classes. From the gameplay video and the screenshot post above some times ago, I could see :

  • Ogryn (all rounder) - Bullgryn (focused on defense) - “Slave Ogryn” (more focused on offensive) - concerning the “slave ogryn”, just take a look at the last ForgeWorld miniatures. The backpack seems quite similar.
  • Priest (all rounder) - Missionnary Zealot (the one with the heavy flame thrower, search for “Pious Vorne” on google and you’ll understand ^^ more focused on close range) - Dunno for the last one, something with more ranged abilities.
  • Sergeant (all rounder) - Scion Sergeant (ranged) - Penal leader (closer range)
  • Imperial guard (all rounder) - Scion (heavy ranged) - Penal trooper or acolyte (closer range)

My go to with a 5th class would so be an adeptus mechanicus guy divided between :

  • Mix of skitarii vanguard/ranger (ranged) - Tech Priest (all rounder) - Mix of Sicarian Rustalkers/Infiltrator (melee - closer range).

I’ve looked at dark heresy and I think it might look something similar to this:

Religious type: priest / sister / repentia with builds based around flamers, strong melee, maybe melta weapons too.

Heavy guy: autoguns, lasguns, grenade launchers / missile launcher / autocannon / heavy bolter / chain sword. Generally based around suppressive fire
Career path between weapon teammember(hvy support)/penal legionary (melee focus) and guardsman (balanced)

Sharpshooter guy: built around being sniper / scion / sergeant. Access to power sword/ power axe / volley gun. Lasgun laspistols lascarbine and snipers. Good vs elites. Careers between sergeant / scion / comissar?

Ogryn guy: regular ogryn (damage)/ bullgryn(tank) / ogryn bonehead (buffs)

Psyker guy: Astropath / sanctioned psyker / et. (Buff / damage / debuff)

Now, roles likely overlap just like they could in vermintide. So likely a few weapons might be common to a few (lasguns variants / grenade launchers / etc).

Game open to add not only new carreers but new characters as expansion latter down the line ( adeptus mechanicus / tau or whatever).

Solid suggestions @jeepmailhot ! A psyker would be great indeed !

I wish we could also get some kind of battle sister. Heavier and more resistant than the average human (but also slower).
Like a standard battle sister - Retributor or Dominion for heavy support, and some celestians for close combat (Repentia going to the "religious type you mentionned before).

I don’t know about that, as much as I love my deathrobot homeboys the crons, when it comes to many MMOs too the most picked race is generally humans or a race that looks very close to humans, I guess for relatability? 40k humans at least have the advantage of actually being interesting and non-generic vs some other settings, and they have a really wide range of aesthetics + presumably accents.

I’m still hoping. A psyker would be neat too, but personally I want a skitarii ranger most of all.

It’s possible it’s like VT2: 4 characters in a match but more available overall.

I dunno, when it comes to say what they did to Mass Effect I’d agree, but I like the crazed religious fanatic look here, it reminds me of the flagellants in warhammer fantasy xD

But you’re right, a Sister of Battle would’ve indeed been badass.

Yeah, honestly I like to see a bit of both in my games. I found it weird the witch elves in warhammer total war were so plain + had men’s hips when they literally bathe in the blood of their enemies to stay beautiful and youthful, but on the same token I find the priestess here somehow looks exactly like the image I have in my head of someone living in a convent (I think it’s the haircut?) who spends their time clunking xenos.

It’s the character on the right in the scene of them walking where I was most like ??? about the haircut.

I can’t see anyone smaller than the ogryn wielding a heavy bolter, those are crewed by weapons teams in the IG. Only space marines are strong enough to have one guy carrying one without getting wrecked by the recoil.

Unless you make it an activated ability where one gets dropped in on a mount and then can’t be moved?

Each character should be fully customizable in appearance, gender too. Therefore you can have multiple people playing the same ‘class’ but it doesn’t damage the authenticity of the game, such as if there were multiple Saltzpyre’s in a VT2 match. If this isn’t incorporated into the game, I can see the game having the same issues as both VT1 and VT2 where you’ll get people that lobby hop for hours until they can lock down the class they want, or, veteran players joining low level lobbies just to criticize new players due to not playing the specific character a certain way. (Honestly doubt Fatshark give a single f*** about community opinion or input at this point, after the way both VT1 and VT2 were handled, seems unlikely.)

Funny how you criticize hypothetical “veteran players joining low level lobbies just to criticize new players due to not playing the specific character a certain way” while in the same breath, you eagerly criticize FS for not taking the development of the game in the very specific direction you want them to.
In another post, you admitted you haven’t touched the game in a yearand yet, here you are telling anyone who would listen how shitty FS are at their job and how terrible the direction of the game is.

I get it, you REALLY want customizable heroes and as long as the game won’t let you have that you’ll just disregard everything else and keep bashing FS. If you want to keep throwing your tantrum, by all means go ahead but please, spare us your self-righteous BS…

I’m more so disinterested by the fact that to play a class I may like in the game, I’ll be forced to play as a generic strong woman with an undercut. And I’m by no means having a ‘tantrum’ but I can definitely tell the Vermintide community is still as pretentious as ever due to your replies. My argument, mainly comes from a class based perspective, customization itself isn’t what I’m directly talking about, but it’s the only way I can see the game allowing people to play what they want without having others whine in a lobby.

And yes, a year… I know, because not having consistently played a game means you can’t have an opinion. Sorry, what did I miss? Garbage DLC career paths? Real shame… C’mon.

Here you go again with the self-righteous BS. Of course, you can have an opinion even if you haven’t played in a year but don’t be surprised there’s a backlash when you only put forwards your feelings and falsehoods to support it and try to pass them as facts (more on that down below).

I can definitely tell the Vermintide community is still as pretentious as ever due to your replies

What exactly was pretentious? Disagreeing with you? Calling out the hollowness of your arguments? I’m not the one pretentious enough to call DLCs I haven’t even tried “garbage”. Or perhaps my pretentiousness comes from the fact I did not partake in a gratuitous trash-talk of FS ?

My argument, mainly comes from a class based perspective, customization itself isn’t what I’m directly talking about

Allow me to doubt that when in your first sentence, you made it clear that even if the class you wanted to play was available, you’d still be pissed to have to play “a generic strong woman with an undercut” Once again: generic that’s your opinion but I guess stamping a “generic” label on anything you don’t like is easier.

but it’s the only way I can see the game allowing people to play what they want without having others whine in a lobby.

This statement is simply false. You can disable the “suggest another hero” window in the game settings and the matchmaking will only send you to a lobbies where your selected hero is available.
Additionally and more efficiently, you can -through the steam workshop- suscribe to the “Host your QP” add-on which allow you to host your QP therefore you’re sure to have the character you want to play.

Sorry, what did I miss? Garbage DLC career paths? Real shame… C’mon.

I already remarked on your omniscience which allows you to judge the quality of content you haven’t experienced. But I’d like to take a second to remark that this is this kind of scornful haughtiness which makes your self-righteous indignation mildly hilarious. Furthermore, the response from the community to these new careers dlc was overwhelming positive but what do they know, they’re a pretentious bunch. They liked it so much that they pushed FS to keep up in that direction. In short, your derogative assessment of them as trash is just like your trash-talk of FS, gratuitous and contribute to your overall argument coming across as a tantrum.
Finally, you also missed major balance updates, QoL updates, new re-balanced and reshuffled, Weaves, the addition of new cosmetics, and 3 free maps which were also very well received.
