Plagued by a variety of Crashes & Disconnects

I’ve seen many of these issues mentioned before, but I seem to be getting an unusually high number of them. I’d love a hand dealing with any (if not all, i understand) of the issues I’m facing.

First up, It takes upwards of 10+ launches most times to actually get into the game, and luck navigating a host of what i assume are connection issues: Sign in timeouts, a variety of backend errors, Connection times, inability to connect to hosts, and so on. These usually occur on entering the game (whilst loading into the keep) or loading into a mission, but even if i find my way into a game i am not safe - it can happen randomly (though less often) during a game. I’ve spent upwards of an hour just relaunching to try and play in the past and it’s always a frustration. Sometimes I just give up and play something else.

The next issue - the game closing crashes my computer, 100% of the time. It does not matter if i exit from a match, the keep, or the main menu. it doesn’t matter if I quit via buttons in the game, or attempt to close it from the process manager. If I try to exit the game in anyway, it crashes, and i must re-start my computer. On several occasions this has lead to the game being ‘uninstalled’ from steam, often requiring me to ‘reinstall’ it, wait for it to detect the already-downloaded files, and then download some more.

Finally, the most minor issue: Frequently (though not always) when i launch the game, or load into the keep after finishing a mission, it will change to windowed mode. I need to go into settings, set it to windowed, confirm, then set it back to full-screen and confirm to get it back to full-screen. Honestly, this is not much of a hassle and it doesn’t really bother me much.

Ultimately, the game is very very difficult to play just because i need to be very lucky to find myself into a game.

Here are my compy details;
OS: Windows 8.1, 64 bit
CPU: Intel I5 3.20GHz
RAM: 8 GB DDR3
Mobo: Z97-A
GPU: AMD Radeon R9 200

Also of note: the clock on my computer is broken and does not update. Might this be causing the connectivity issues?

Hey there Lancer. Sorry to hear about your plethora of issues! :frowning:

We’ll start with the errors you’ve been experiencing. I don’t believe your broken clock could be causing this but I wouldn’t rule it out completely as computers manage to surprise me every day!

Try rebooting your router to begin with and see if there’s any improvement.

The next recommendation would be to perform a DNS Flush:

  1. Run the Command Prompt as an administrator
  2. Enter the commands:
    ipconfig /flushdns

Additionally, you may need to change your DNS. Instructions on how to switch to Google DNS can be seen here: https://developers.google.com/speed/public-dns/docs/using

Enabling the ‘Small Network Packets’ option within the ‘Network’ panel may help if your connection is unreliable.

As for the crashes upon exit, please send over a console log from a session where this has occurred. Your console logs can be located using the instructions below:

  1. Press the Windows key + R
  2. Enter %appdata% within the search input and select 'OK'
  3. Navigate to AppData\Roaming\Fatshark\Vermintide 2\console_logs

The minor issue with the change in window mode is something we’ll have to try and reproduce on our end.

Hi,

Would you mind checking my log, at the moment every time I start the game my computer hard crashes, doesn’t happen with any other game just Vermintide 2. Here’s my log it would really be appreciated if you could have a look a seriously love this game and it’s so annoying I haven’t been able to play it really since the latest patch :frowning:

vermintide 2.txt (64.1 KB)

Hello Mr Nezzy, Vermintide 2 should never be able to directly hard crash your PC due to the way it operates but it can highlight instabilities in components due to it’s demanding nature. It’s worth noting that your CPU does not meet the minimum requirements for Vermintide 2 which could be contributing to your problem.

The thing is I’ve been playing it for a long time it’s never started doing it until the recent crash, other users have reported hard crashes as well with CPU and GPU’s which are fine for the game. It’s only been happening since the last crash. I understand my CPU is below the requirements but what I don’t understand is how I’m fine on all other CPU intensive games but for the last week vermintide has crashed? Doesn’t add up to me.

You’ll need to ensure none of your components are overheating, run the Windows Memory Diagnostic and scan your drives for errors. This is certainly a hardware instability of sorts.

Hi Julia,

Thanks for your reply. I checked all my temps they were fine and the WMD came back with nothing so what I did was just update all my drivers and it’s stable again, well as far as I know only played one game but before I wasn’t even able to finish one. So was a simple solution in the end hopefully I’ll be okay for now, wish I’d thought of it sooner!

Thanks for your help anyway and have a great weekend!

Neil
