People kicking because of low hero levels

My issue with your stance is that you want others to play the way you want them to play.

It doesn’t matter if you are a good player or bad. If you join the Veteran game as level 1 you are saying you are too good to do few Recruit runs to increase your contribution to the team. No matter your skill you are gonna perform worse at level 1 than level 10. It might be small difference but it is still wasting other people’s time. People don’t like their time being wasted so they give you the boot.

If we want to save resources we should just leave the things as they are - that means letting players to filter their games manually. It does exactly the same thing as the filters would do - I don’t like elves so I can kick them, I don’t like slayers so I can kick them, I don’t like level 12 players for whatever reasons I can kick them - or crash the host. The only difference is that we have one group of players who are annoyed that they are being kicked and the other group of players who are annoyed for having to kick the others.

Let’s say that FS would hide player’s level from the team. Do you think that it will increase loot/xp per hour for players who kick low levels or decrease?

I call it exploiting because the others have no chance to protect themselves against it.

Like I said before, I am okay with you playing as the low level, but I am not okay that you want to play with group of players who do mind low levels endangering their runs more than you would at higher level.

I quote myself:

I am not against people creating custom lobbies and enforcing their rules there.

Ergo, I am not making people play the way I want. I want the play queue I use to be the like I want. Much like you want the queue to be like you want. We know some people want stupid things. You probably think I what I want to be stupid. But importantly: Neither of us are forcing people to play the quick queue.

If we want to save resources we should just leave the things as they are - that means letting players to filter their games manually

I disagree. People getting kicked repeatedly in quick queue is very bad (new) player UX. IMO something should change. This does not mean I advocate every (IMO) stupid idea that pops up.

Like I said before, I am okay with you playing as the low level, but I am not okay that you want to play with group of players who do mind low levels endangering their runs more than you would at higher level.

I am not OK with people setting filters that discriminate against new players, without me at least being able to filter them for discriminating against new players. I think this is reasonable. The resulting UI would likely not be. This is why custom games with custom rules visible is the much better alternative to automated queue combined with filter selection, if filters really need to be implemented.

Alright if we split the quick Q into two parts:

Low level Quick Q - the only restriction being the hero power.

High level Quick Q - additional restriction being the level or other kinds of filters.

Would you be happy with that?

So last night I wanted to see how bad it was… but I didn’t feel like being a total carry. I did 2 recruits and got to level 3. I then joined a Vet game. The first one I joined I was kicked as soon as I loaded in. So next game I said my power level and please don’t kick as soon as I loaded in. The group replied “fine if you’re bad we’ll kick you” which I replied with “that’s fair”. We did fine on Vet. Everytime I joined a new game until I was level 10 I would just same my power level and I didn’t get kicked once. One group even did a Champion with me in it. We ended up with Halescourge which the boss on that is stupid hard no matter what your level… so we didn’t get past him.

I really don’t think this is as big of an issue as people are making it out to be… in that I don’t think kicks are as common as people are making them out to be.

I would probably kick a level 1 no matter what on Vet… but 5+ I’ll probably leave.

I have a ton of hours on V1 and now on V2, but I understand not everyone has that much time logged in this series. I see people who are level 30 who are obviously bad at this game still on Vet.

me and my friends will run 3-4 missions with someone that is “low level” and then we will kick if we keep losing on maps we normally don’t wipe on (most of the time we never have to kick the low level b/c either we have no problem carrying them, they pull their own weight, or they leave after a few losses)

Well, @Ilex has a very important point.

And if you want to know the scaling, just add 180 to the HeroPower and look at the proportional change between the two toons you are comparing.

Example:
A lvl 7 toon with maxed gear vs a lvl 22 toon with avg 150 iPower:

Level P (level) P (items) HeroPower RawPower
7 70 300 370 550
22 220 150 370 550

Surprise surprise, I choose an example where they deal equal damage. So, roughly, maxed gear accounts for fifteen (!) level in terms out damage output compared to someone in their low twenties doing their first toon.

So for those who didn’t already know, at max level and gear your level accounts for 38.5% of your damage, your gear for 38.5% of your damage, and a baseline for 23% of your damage.

With only HP as reference you will have an imprecise result. Lvl up you unlock weapons that may suit better in that champ, but overall, talents. A lvl 7 sienna isnt equal to a lvl 22 sienna with same power for example. But this is valid for almost all chars (temp hp is an awesome helper in champ+). I dont see the problem to add a min req level other than PH for higher difficulty. This is a method applied in a lot of games and it works.

Yeah this is why we need to be able to inspect teammate’s equipment. It is stupid to have All 200+ orange gear but your team kicks you for joining Veteran at level 5 on your fourth character because Recruit has nothing to offer you.

It isn’t reasonable. Random strangers have no obligation to play with you, and you’re a buttburgler for wanting to force them to play with you or punish them or something.

I’m gay. I can say buttburgler. I wasn’t, and cannot possibly be “homophobic”. Stop trying to protect me by censoring me.

So you’re saying that they can discriminate against me, but I am not allowed to discriminate against them? Did you misunderstand me or vice versa? I was merely asking for the option to not play with people who use certain filters. If I understood you correctly, by your logic I should not be made to play with other people I don’t want to play with. It’s no more me punishing them than it is them punishing people they filter out. Ergo, it’s reasonable.

Besides what’s wrong with burgling butts.

All we need to fix this is a little tab of information that appears when you hover over a persons portrait. One that states that players power level and the effects of their trinkets.

Nothing more, nothing less.
If you show more people will inevitably get into the ‘omg I must copy this guys equipment because he did well.’ Style of gameplay. And I’m sure that’s against what the devs want.

If they use certain filters, which exclude you from their game, you won’t be playing with them anyway.

I’m not low level anymore (except for Sienna) so level filtering won’t affect me (much). But I still want to exclude them from my games for using filters that exclude players other than me. In other words I want to filter based on their behavior not some arbitrary statistic. I don’t want to get queued into a game that artificially (via filters) only has high level players, nor do I want to get players joining my game that are only looking for games that have high level players. It’s at least as reasonable as (IMO even more so than) filtering players based on character level.

There needs to be some kind of notification so you can argue that you shouldn’t be kicked. My level 1 bardin is probably has more power than the level 22 elitists who have only ever leveled one hero and don’t realise that you can use power 300 items on level 1 characters.
As an example I had a level 5 kruber with 350 power in a champion game , everyone but me dies to horde and a troll so they decide to blame me because I’m level 5 . I finish off the horde and am slowly melting the troll while running to the area to pick up people and suddenly I’m kicked without any kind of notification or ability to argue against the kick. The game ended then and there . They’d rather have a bot that dies in 5 minutes than an experienced low level player.

For Veteran never discriminate anyone, i woud go even with level 1
For champion 20 is ok, even 15 if guy is OK , and if he tranfered gear and know what to do
For Legend well, people usualy feel confortable if anyone in group is 30 (since level 30 talent is powerful), but i saw several occasion when 28 were ok.

But there is no talent on 30 lvl…

eh i appology i meant 25…messed the numbers
