Can anyone please recommend a good way to do that stupid zealot penance that requires killing 40 enemies stunned by your stun grenade within 10 seconds?
I just can’t seem to get anywhere near it. I play on damnation auric difficulty (otherwise finding 40 enemies in the same spot seems impossible, lower difficulties are ghost towns) but that means their hp is ‘1 squillion’ so takes quite a few swings to kill many enemies and also it means all the other players are pretty good and cut through everything like combine harvesters.
I just don’t see how finding a group of 40 enemies and keeping them all to myself is physically possible.
Do I just have to run off in the opposite direction and hope that a horde triggers near me?
I hate the designer who came up with this one. Seems so unconsidered.
In fact I hate whoever decided to put stun grenades in the game… Which loads of the penances seem to focus around. Who in their right mind would choose a stun grenade on one of these missions. shrugs
Try the end of Smelter Complex, Excise Vault Spireside-13, or Archivum Sycorax where it’s nothing but poxwalker spawns. Let your team know what you’re trying to do so they don’t take kills.
Best way is to get to the end of Power Matrix HL-17-36. When you get the cooling cores and are about to extract, there is a horde of poxwalkers that will start to ambush you shortly before getting to Valkyrie.
Get yourself friendly zealot with stun grenades and Chorus of spiritual fortitude.
If other two players are willing to help they can push horde to make it compact.
Zealot friend can drop 1-2 grenades, start pushing them back with relict and you armed with a flamer can do the deed (have stun grenades equipped yourself too).
I did it myself and the only contribution I needed from the team was not to obstruct, but if you have more people willing to help it should be very easy.
Tell you what - If you give me 1,5h I can play the part of the friendly zealot.
did it ages ago but think I just went ham with the old trusty IX or the flamer(pre nerf tho but should work on trash-mobs.
Play high int auric and u should be fine
All these old batch penances were designed pre-xbox launch, where hordes were substantially bigger. It’s a prime reason they’re so hard now. Probably for console optimization reasons hordes are way smaller now and not all of those penances were adjusted.
Ogryns gone bowling penance for example used to take almost double the enemies to complete, and even then it was fairly easy to do during any damnation horde.
I wish the hordes were way bigger. They’re pretty tame on all difficulties.
RE the penance - I literally didn’t even consider using ranged like a bolter. I just assumed it had to be melee. Probably why I was struggling with it so much
I HATE THIS BS PENANCE. I HATE IT!!! I HAAAATE IT!!! 1111111
Whoever the designer is who designed this bs. I hate you.
I have loved every second of this game for so many hundreds of hours but this 1 penance has made me completely detest it. It’s total bs.
Killing 40 is IMPOSSIBLE in 10 seconds. 15 bullets doesn’t cut it in the bolter. Some groaners take more than 1 bolter hit in damnation auric (mmm great balancing there). Swinging an eviscerator takes about 1-2 seconds per swing so that’s probably 5-6 swings within 10 seconds. HOW ARE YOU MEANT TO KILL 40 ENEMIES WITH 6 SWINGS OR 15 RUBBER BULLET ROUNDS IN 10 SECONDS?!!?!???
And finding more than 40 enemies at any one time in this alleged tide game is as rare as winning the lottery.
MY DEAR GOD IM F***ING RAGING AT THIS NONSENSE.
I’m stealing all the grenades from my teammates for this impossible task so totally ruining matches (double ruined because I have to use stun grenades which is like taking a feather duster into a 41st millennium battle).
The most I have killed is 15. I mean come on. I’m not a bad player by any stretch of the imagination. I’ve now wasted 3 entire nights, ruining other people matches and getting downed like a n00b all because of this bs build I’m having to use for this bs penance that is TOTAL BS.
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARGH.
THANKS FATSHARK FOR RUINING THE GAME FOR ME. I’m too obsessive-compulsive to not do the penance and I just want it over and done with so I can never touch a goddamn children’s firecracker stun grenade ever again.
Even with enhanced blitz!! !!! I hate this so much.
Just allow team members kills to count then it’ll actually be fun and fair. It means that the stun grenade was well used/placed. Having to kill 40 GODAMN enemies within 10 seconds of stunning them simply proves that you were nowhwre near your team to do it.
Best places to find good density of enemies has been, for me atleast, at Smelter Complex end event and Archivum Sycorax end event. If I want to find elites and specials you could run Mercantile HL-70-04 start event or Comsplex middle event, standing by the entrance to the room will lure waves of shotgunners, gunners and the lonesome sniper to you.
If this is about the Shocking Stuff Zealot penance, try using Flamer and Fury of the Faithful. You might have to run away abit to be by yourself, other people might unintentionally ruin the attempt at acquiring the penance.
But then you have to reach the end on this to get those hordes and that is not easy. Almost all auric matches seem to be losses atm. Not sure what’s changed but it feels impossible now. Maybe this insanely rubbish build I am being forced to use. But the other team members are dying too so it’s not just me.
If I try a lower difficulty then the horde in those sections will probably be 3 pox walkers and field mouse.
This really is driving me insane. Literally can’t enjoy the game again until this is done.
40 enemies in 10 seconds. Just goddamn stupid. The stun grabade effect doesn’t even last that long! It barely lasts a couple of seconds.
Heresy difficulty with a high intensity modifier should be enough. Smelter complex and Archivum Sycorax remains your best bet.
If you are spreading yourself too thin with bad build choices to maximize penance gains, try to focus on the specific penance you are trying to do and adjust your build accordingly.
Try to stand close to spawn points during hordes to have the required density build up around you before commiting with stun grenades, hopefully your teammates are further away. Asking or letting people know before hand could lessen the risk of them interrupting you.
I have fury and a flamer. Couldn’t kill an ant in less than 10 seconds though. Flamer takes ages to kill anything. It’s useful for supression but terrible for quick kills.
Smelter hasn’t been on rotation all night except for auric damnation and the easiest difficulty.
This is so boring. Genuinely ruining the game for me.
I won’t even feel any sense of accomplishment when I finally do this as I’ll still think it’s complete bs that required pure luck to finish. No penance should require pure luck. Very, very, very bad design.
Hmm… I don’t even remember that penance myself, all I know is I’ve done it. But shotties are my favorite weapons for a reason, and the first thing I thought about reading about this was something like this:
Feel free to edit the build as you like, I only added the gun & talents I feel would be best suited overall. Man-Stopper can be a pain to get if you don’t have it, since it’s a T2 exclusive blessing so at lvl 30 you’re at the mercy of stores only. Other than that, this is how and why that build:
Man-Stopper gives shotguns infinite cleave on crit. This doesn’t include oggies or monsters, but does everything else. With Scattershot and your talents you will effectively have ~100% crit rate so long as you hit 5 enemies per shot.
The zelly stealth guarantees crits on both melee and ranged, and has a grace period of about 0.5s where an attack made in that time won’t disable the stealth. So you can get off 2 autocrits (with the finesse bonuses) per stealth. Since that crit means infinite cleave, using this in a crowd guarantees topping Scattershot and killing virtually everything in the line of each shot both.
Without stealth, you can also use the weapon special round as your first shot to stack Scattershot, since it natively has infinite cleave & wide spread. But it also does almost no dmg and only applies the burn & stagger, so only ever use that as Scattershot stacker for 1:st shot and nothing else in this case.
Remember that shotties aren’t simple weapons. Normally you use ADS (ADS = aim, holding RMB) for tighter spread & extra finesse dmg, and hipfire for spread & AoE. In this case, you only want hipfire since that does way more than enough dmg for mixed horde groups. Aim at chest/neck height to hit as many enemies as possible.
Note also that Kantrael has a really poor range, its damage falls off quickly at mid-long ranges.
I read that the penance timer starts from the first kill vs. a stunned enemy. In this case you probably want to pop all 3 nades spread over a large area at first, and then get to killing to maximize the number of enemies you have to work with. Kantrael has precious few shots (max 9 iirc) and a slow reload so make them count.
I use a similar shotty with probably half of my vet & zelly builds because it’s crazy strong. So the above isn’t something just for the penance but will definitely help you in the game in general. Either way I recommend you take to the grinder at first to get a feel for the spread and that timing for doing 2-shots per stealth both.
But if you don’t have Man-Stopper, I’d probably go with FoF ult & flamer instead. Either way, you might want to pick a melee like Heavy Sword IX or something that does a ton of cleave and gets a lot of kills fast vs. horde. But without the shotty 40 stunned kills does sound pretty ridiculous. Just getting that many enemies stunned alone is unlikely, but on top of that if even one other member in your team is pulling their weight you probably won’t get all the kills yourself.
