Shocking Stuff penance is indeed Shocking Stuff

It’s INSANELY STUPID.

I’d reply to my previous thread about it if it weren’t for the daft 7 day closure rule on threads (what even is the purpose of that).

This penance is just so bad I can’t even comprehend how it’s been passed in QA. all other penances are a doddle then this one is impossible.

So just to clarify, you need to do this in a private game because it’s nearly impossible to get 3 strangers to sit back and let you attack a whole horde by yourself. Seeing as there are barely any real chaff hordes in the game, everyone wants to jump in as soon as they see them. They’re the most fun bit of the game and they’re like hens teeth.

So when one does come along, if by some miracle you still have 3 grenades (because you’ll likely die on auric with this idiotic build required to do the penance and of course having grenades after being saved would be too much fun, can’t possibly allow that… And oc there are only 1 and a half grenade packs per auric mission per fortnight because grenades are just too fun to include in this game) then by the time youve thrown all 3 and gotten your weapon out, 10 seconds has pretty much already passed and your team mates have almost certainly decimated all the chaff anyway (because who can resist the hens teeth wave once a blue moon?).

So yeah this ****ING penance is utter dog ****. I’m so sick of it. How can every other penance be so damn easy yet this one is pure impossible? Just how?

10 seconds!!! WHY!!! AMAZING DESIGN GUYS. CAN’T GET OVER HOW WELL THOUGHT OUT THIS PENANCE IS. IT REQUIRES YOU TO HAVE 3 FRIENDS TO PLAY WITH WHO WILL LET YOU RIP INTO THE RARE CHAF HORDE. BUT YOU WON’T HAVE ANY GRENADES ANYWAY BY THE TIME YOU REACH THE CHAF HORDE, WHICH IS 1 ****ING HOUR INTO THE MATCH, BECAUSE THERE AREN’T ANY IN THE MAP!! WAY TO GO! SUCH A FUN PENANCE. NO REALLY IM REALLY ENJOYING THIS FOR WEEKS NOW.

  • I DON’T HAVE 3 FRIENDS WHO PLAY THIS GAME
  • THE BUILD REQUIRED TO DO THIS POS PENANCE MEANS YOU’LL ALMOST CERTAINLY DIE BEFORE YOU REACH THE 1 SINGULAR CHAF HORDE ALWAYS AT THE GODDAMN END OF THE 1 HOUR AURIC MATCH
  • IF YOU DIE YOU LOSE YOUR GRENADES (BECAUSE REASONS)
  • NO GRENADES MEANS NO PENANCE
  • NO FRIENDS FOR PRIVATE GAME MEANS RANDOS WILL JUST KILL EVERYTHING ON PLANET EARTH BEFORE I’VE EVEN SWITCHED TO MY FLAMER
  • FLAMER TAKES 15 YEARS TO KILL ANYTHING SO THAT’S THE PENANCE OVER
  • BOLTER IS AS USEFUL AS A CHOCOLATE TEAPOT BECAUSE ALL ENEMIES IN AURIC ARE WAY OP
  • AURIC IS THE ONLY DIFFICULTY THAT HAS ENOUGH ENEMIES TO ACTUALLY KILL.
  • 40 ENEMIES IN 10 SECONDS AFTER LOBBING 3 FEATHER DUSTER GREANDES??? WHAT?! ARE YOUR DESIGNERS HIGH?

ABSOLUTE DOG SWILL. This penance is such a POS.

Anyone swanning in here wanging on about how they did it “by accident”… Well duh. This penance is 1000% luck. Well done for getting lucky. Buy a lotto ticket. If you win then use your winnings to find out the designer who decided on this penance and get them fired. Better still get them to have to do this penance once a day with total strangers (and no real way to choose maps or conditions) for a month. If they fail once then they get banished into the sea.

I got this penance first try with 3 randoms. Later my friend got the penance as well with me and 2 randoms. I found it was one the easier ones.

Lol I just completed it

But my opinion still stands. It was pure luck. Only because the 3 people I was playing with all got downed just as a horde was triggered. That type of event is super rare.

This penance 100% requires luck. This is why I hate it.

The rules should be that the team kills count on enemies stunned by your grenades… Then make the amount something like 60.

That would improve it in every possible way.

Every penance takes a bit of skill and a bit of luck. This one as well. I didn’t need three downed teammates to get it.

It would probably not.
Finding 60 enemies that you can stun within 10 seconds, is much more of a rarity, than finding 40.

Also a little tip: the idle hordes in lights out missions (hi+damnation) have around 50 enemies.

So you got lucky in some other way.

Only 10% of all players have done this (older) penance so let’s stop pretending it’s easy to get.

Other penances require more skill or more grind. This requires almost all luck.

60 would be easy on an auric horde if all 4 players kills counted on stunned enemies imo.

But I obvs plucked that number as a guess so even 40 would be fine but my point is that the team members kills should count on stunned enemies. QA would decide on the actual number of kills required.

Lol dude, chill. It can be completed just by playing with stun granades. Behind enemy lines is FAR worse

Behind enemy lines is the one where you have to be loner and backstab? If so then it’s not even comparable. That is just grindy (and yeah definitely sucks from a gameplay perspective). It just takes a while bit it’s super easy to do. If you fail a backstab then no biggie, on to the next one and current tally won’t be affected.

Whereas this penance requires you to do the impossible in 1 single 10 second bout, relying on all the moons of luck to align just for you and just for those 10 seconds.

He’s still seething about it lol.

As mentioned quite a few times now - 50 enemies is only useful if you have the horde all to yourself.

How often does anyone in DT have a horde to themselves? After hundreds of hours I think I can count my lone 40+ enemy hordes on 1 hand. It’s insanely rare. Even if there are 60 enemies then just 1 other player will have reduced that to 40 in seconds. More than 1 other player? Then say goodbye to the chaff in the blink of an eye. You’ll not have pulled the pin from your 3rd grenade before they’re gone.

Usually you have 3 other people all desperate for those fun easy kills that the game (so bizarrely rarely) provides.

The only good thing about this penance is the ironically on-point name lol

I don’t know man. Auric Maelstrom is full of people constantly dieing. Every time I play I have at least 1-2 situations where I have the entire screen for myself when I play my usual 3-4 runs.

But it has to be exclusively chaff.

If there is a rager or mauler or crusher etc there (extremely likely on auric) then you’ll not be getting 40 kills in 10 seconds.

So being alone can be very common. Being alone with a chaff horde sans specials/elites… Very rare.

Stun grenades stun everything.
What are you on about?

Whip out a flamer, light 'em up, and press F.

Darktide was purchased by about 2 million PC users. By Jan.30th 2023, 24-hour peak online on Steam was 8529 users. Percentages don’t mean much with such a drop. If anything, it shows that most currently active zealot players have completed this penance.

And? Does the penance say “stun 40 enemies in 10 seconds”? No. It says “kill 40 enemies you’ve stunned in 10 seconds”.

So what are you talking about?

That’s an assumption though and kinda irrelevant anyway, although I highly doubt many people only use 1 type of archetype.

The penance still sucks huge balls. If you competed ages ago and with lots of luck then honestly I think you’re just imagining it being easy/fair.

It’s pure trash. I’ve just completed it and feel no sense of achievement at all, unlike most the other penances I’ve completed.

It’s hardly a matter of luck. It would be if you only got one shot at it.

I too don’t feel much after completing mid-tier achievements. Unlike, say, Inquisitorial Legend V or Flawless Execution. There’s just not much to be proud of tbh.

But flamer trivializes this. What’s all the whining about?

If they made it easier for other builds then flamer would just trivialize it even harder.

Which isn’t to say it’s impossible with other builds. A few of my buddies did it purely melee because they misunderstood and though that was required. I think they used heavy swords? It’s been a while.
