Penance grind reward

So I’ve finally just completed my final penance for ogryn and the glorious reward was… Basically nothing :joy:

Surely that’s a bit of an oversight? A nice picture frame and/or insignia/medal (whatever they’re called) for completing every single penance for an archetype should be the absolute minimum but really there should be some incredible cosmetic for ticking that final penance.

It’s not a huge deal but the lack of juicy 100% completion reward was a bit deflating.

The game now pushes penances as a core element so it feels like a strange decision. I know that only a handful of people will actually bother to 100% each archetype but then it would make that cosmetic reward as sweet as honey.

i don’t think you understand what “core element” means. penances are exactly in the same place they were before, they just updated the UI for them and gave us some new stuff.

There’s obviously going to be more iterations of the helmets coming in the future… Can’t wait for those 0=

“I don’t think you know what this means”. Ah the common troll utterance of the DT forums along with “you need to learn to read” etc.

Cool story bro. Perhaps learn to be a civil human being before bothering to respond to people.

And rather than correcting, you insult him… I don’t think you’re in proper position to talk about civility.

Not sure if i understand you correctly here.
Are you saying that you want SOMETHING, or that you want MORE?
Because you do get an insignia for completing all penances, on each class.

If you want to get technical, the ogryn is the only one who does not actually get an insignia for completing all class penances.
The T5 Master of War penances of the four classes require you to complete 45 class penances (which means that you have to do all of them).
The ogryn has one more penance than the other classes, so you can skip one penance.
But that technicality is not something that i would complain about.

I think the biggest problem with penances right now is that even the hardest ones give you 5-10 points.
Revived 500 allies? Here’s your 5 points.
Completed every single penance for a character? Well sh*t, 10 points it is!

… died all the time and was completely useless in an Auric mission? That’s much more impressive than all of the above, here’s 2 penances for a total of 20 points!

You get that the penance or 2 before competing them all which I thought was weird but yeah some serious sh*t-hot cosmetic item should be granted to those who’ve completed all of them imo.

For the other classes, you will be sitting on 58/60 before jumping to 60/60.
Since the 59th penance will be the last one required for the 60th (master of war), both will be completed at the same time.

Since ogryn has 1 additional penance, you can be sitting on 58/61, complete 1 more penance (which also finishes master of war) and jump to 60/61, with just 1 “independent” penance remaining.

Unless i overlooked something and some of the pre patch penances are not required for master of war. I did not bother checking if they are included in the requirement for master of war, since i had all of them finished before the update.

Yeah, 5 tiers of achievement items like usual and red/green recolors for the Commissary (oh god please give me something to discharge dockets on). Dunno why people don’t use this opportunity to whine about how lame Psyker cosmetics continue to be.

I’m too busy baking my cookies at the fact that zealot is stuck wearing pajama pants forever.

What I’m most confused by is how they did not really put weapon skins in this update. They advertised with weapon skins, and they did put a single recolor for a single weapon per class in, but the recolor is completely unrelated to the theme of the armors you get, and it’s literally just that single one and no more.

Like cool, I can put white camo on my ogryn knife now. But I just got a blue moebian uniform looking set and the weird white camo wouldn’t fit it. Fatshark advertised with new weapon skins but they were too good to actually add options for each weapon, let alone options that fit the new cosmetics. So now my characters are tricked out in the blue moebian color scheme gear and their options for weapons don’t suit it at all.

So with the penances, initially I set out to complete them all, and get the (lowquality) Moebian armour set for Veteran.

I’ve reached 4315, which was actually pretty hard for me since I hadn’t played the other 3 classes that much. However, even after pushing myself and using builds I never wanted to play, I’ve still not quite made it.

Partially, because of a single build: Loner, backstab, stealth, throwing knives zealot.

I just can’t do it, I hate it so much, and I can literally feel the hatred it causes in other people. Its so far off the 40k theme as well that it makes me sick. I can’t use that build, I’ll never use it, so I guess thats me screwed out of finishing the Zealot penances.

Also, I can’t do the private game only penances, no chance, not happening. My gaming friend won’t want to do it, and I have zero interest in half assedly, in a private lobby, burning through a plague ogryns HP as psyker or whatever. Lame, boring, just going through the motions to fulfil a tick box in game. Its not fun, or engaging and infuriates me.

So now I’ve just given up, screw the penances, whats the point? The cosmetic just isn’t worth it, and the remaining penances are just annoying.

Was this the intended result? Why design it this way?

Just play normal, even when you use that build.
That is how i did it.
In general, i do not think that anyone really minds those builds, unless the player acts like a moron, rushes ahead like they only have 15 minutes to live, constantly pull enemies and agro dump them, or usese the invis to ditch a teammate that is now gonna die because of it.

Don’t run ahead, unless there are shooters to clear.
When you use your invis, just go invis for a very brief moment, when you want to backstab an elite or special that is already close to you (or rescue a teammate).
Use your throwing knifes to 1 tap specials, shotgunners and elite gunners.

If you want to farm ranged unit backstab kills for loner, the end event on Mercantile is pretty good for that.
The whole team is usually bunched up in the entry to the arena. You just run off and clear all of the shooters that are upstairs.

Quick question, did you change difficulty to farm it? Or did you stay on the usual?

For the penances for that specific build, i played mostly damnation, but also a few heresy missions.
I was testing how much easier it was to get barrel kills on heresy vs damnation (result: quite a bit easier).

It also seemed like the throwing knife penance would be a bit easier to get on auric heresy, since a few enemies would be easier to 1 shot.
That one took quite a bit longer than the other penances covered by that loadout, despite me using the knifes a lot.

And yeah… regarding the invis, i basically used it as if i was using chastise.
With the added benefit of being able to revive teammates and do objectives, while enemies are around.

Huge thanks, you’ve definitely helped me. I might try it later tonight.

I’ll keep all that in mind, great stuff.

While I used a little bit of Shroudfield Chaxe (before the Chaxe buff mind you!) I have never used Shroud field knife. Which is funny considering I by far have the most time on Zealot and that’s one of their main builds.

I have the same issue as you. Both because personally, I have never really liked stealth builds in any game, aesthetically and mechanically, and that it doesn’t fit the Zealot’s character. None of them come off as a Death Cult Assassin, with maybe the Judge although that still might be stretching it.

So yeah if I do force myself to play it I’ll probably just do Auric Heresy or regular Damnation.

Although with my lack of blessings ir any good knives, I am saving that as an opportunity to test the new crafting update, whenever it comes, to see how good it is going into a weapon family with very low investments beforehand.

Yup. These are a pretty big buzz killer for me. There’s no reason at all that these private only penances should even be in the game, let alone part of a mass-complete penance.

TBH the whole penance system is giving me mad overjustification effect vibes. I used to just enjoy the game for what it is, but now I feel like I’m wasting time if I’m not working toward a specific penance. It shames me to admit I’m letting it ruin the game for me. I’m usually so good at pretending battlepasses don’t exist.
