For any of you who are unfamiliar, “Operation Medic Bag” is Payday 3’s desperate attempt at winning back player trust. Payday 3 is a 4 player cooperative 1st person shooter made by a Swedish company, and was highlighted by:
A beta that hid most of the game’s problems, including aggressive monetization
Lackluster, cookie cutter, overpriced cosmetics which nobody likes
The removal of key matchmaking features
A terrible launch compounded by awful server issues
"We’ll let you know what’s going on Next Week"tm
A series of memes created from player angst and initial CM mismanagement (see: Hedge, Serpentia)
A really solid core gameplay loop and an overwhelmingly lackluster, poor quality, intentionally predatory, and wholly broken everything else
A lack of build variety made worse by a series of broken, inefficient builds
That’s 100% what they’re gonna push. This is the start of, internally and perhaps externally, a Let’s Fix Darktide program and they’re nervous about launching it because it means admitting fault for awful systems they’ve been unable to defend or comment upon since launch. There’s the potential for a huge foot-in-the-mouth if they don’t follow through and they know it.
I really, heavily disagree. Payday 3s gameplay, while it can be fun, is not fun for long. It is boring after playing every mission once. The skill tree system is boring and promotes a very stale build meta. The matchmaking system is beyond abysmal.
I don’t have time to write out a full comparison but Payday 3 is in a much, much, MUCH worse state than Darktide and saying they are the same is very wrong. Payday’s issues go down to practically every single system in the game, both in and out of mission.
You’re at least in part correct. However, Fatshark’s title still has all those problems.
As bad? No. But that’s because Darktide has been out for a year and a half now, not because it launched in any better a functional state. Additionally, while Payday 3 is at least saying “We’re working on the missing stuff”, Darktide has yet to say anything about that.
I disagree. Darktides combat system and mission flow has been good since the start. Even the launch class system was better than Payday’s. Additionally Payday has been out for about half a year I think.
On top of Payday having paid dlc for extra content AND cosmetic dlc (I don’t care if they’ve put it on hold).
And than of course there’s the issue that Payday 3 is a dead game as far as player counts are concerned. DT isn’t huge but it is far from dead.
This isn’t Fatshark’s “last chance.” They can support this game like they supported VT 2 and it will be fine. If Overkill doesn’t fix Payday 3 ASAP it will never return, and it might already be in that state.
Doubtful.
I can’t trust that Fatshark can accomplish anything like this. Not when they fail time and time and just the other day, failed yet again to deliver on a promise.
