It could've been Worse...Looking at the abysmal Payday 3 Reveals

I remember when I was excited for Payday 3. Now it’s just showing that while DT has problems it actually could’ve been worse.

First is they brutalized Payday 2 and left it in a horrible state for some sweet Epic Bucks.

Egregious pre-orders:

Having both an in game microtransaction system for cosmetics, and also making people pay for all additional cosmetics is horrible.

My favorite part, this is listed on the Steam Page:

I guess I’m saying that while I took it for granted I’m happy that at the very least we will get new maps (and hopefully more weapons) for free. I really think we should get 1 class per archetype character, but I would be ok paying for new archetypes as long as the price is right and it adds enough. While I really hate the current cash shop in Darktide, with the predatory shop rotation and stupid currency system, I appreciate it isn’t gating further content.

lmao isn’t (or wasn’t) Payday 2 a really popular co-op game and they managed to f*ck it up completely ? Greed and mismanagement strikes again

its 2023, it will come out and surprise tons of folk running around with preorder masks, whorshipping their overlords, enough people will buy it so that they can claim monetary success at wallstreet, like every other big game does…

the game won’t flop due to greedy pre order gitzmos and a season pass.

DLCs, will split the match making pool. FOMO on Heists others will be playing.

Buy season pass now or pay more individually later. Season pass really means you don’t know the quality of that content prior to purchase. Might be better to buy individually in that case because if it’s good then won’t mind pay the additional cost.

Then in game shop. Probably same again, need 800 in game credits, but can like only buy in sets of 1000 leaving leftover. Can’t we just buy what we want, no more or less at exact amount without having to use psychology of unused credits to next purchase.

Sometimes we buy games, not because we love them. But when there just isn’t much alternatives out there we look towards a lesser evil. I might actually consider this based from good Payday 2 experience and begrudgingly play it.

Unless there is something else PvE Coop planned for 2023 someone can tell me about. Something new…

I looked at Space Marine 2, but PvE is Coop campaign and likely not individual missions, so will feel more repetitive. Too early to tell maybe there will be, but can’t find more information this early.

It certainly won’t be popular based on word of mouth, absolutely nobody talks about Payday 2 anymore. Add that there’s been so many asstastic launches coughcough lately, there’s a big chance that a bad Payday 3 flops as hard as Crime Boss or WWII: The Raid (made by one of Payday’s DLC teams).

Correct. Reminder that the stanly milgram experiment showed that only 20-30% of people resist tyranny. Everyone else just goes with the flow. Presumably even fewer are going to resist annoying monetary practices, most will just not buy XYZ.

But i keep saying it. I don’t think fatshark is being exceptionally greedy in their monetization. I think they just need to prove they’re going to deliver on the good game they promised. Then i’ll buy what they’re selling.

wait for release where it will be played by loads, even if its just to check if it is as bad,
paid content creators who have maybe 2 hours into it making content having nothing bad to say…
its the same with every game good or not,
back for blood, is the exact same season pass and big boy preorder, yet everyone played it on release and content creators making free and paid content, just to be dropped 2 weeks later,

it was obvious it won’t be a stellar game and mighty overpriced yet the mainstream does what it does best, consume.
the only cure for the BS happening is abstaining from garbage practices all together but that won’t happen

One of the largest coop games in the market, consistently had more players than Darktide. First image is referencing a recent update where they bricked the game, so they could make it free on the Epic game store for the Epic bucks. They moved all the servers to the inferior Epic ones and reset a ton of people’s progress, and matchmaking in general is horribly broken.

I was hoping the Payday community as a whole would reject this and accept that Payday isn’t going in a good direction. However besides the hardcore DSOD community it appears everyone is excited for the game, even after they bricked PD 2 and all the horrible mtx stuff. People were getting mad at me for saying the cosmetic currency and paid for new content are bad. A little bit shocked and very disappointed although I guess I shouldn’t be suprised at this point.

If Payday 3 is an amazing game past all this BS, maybe I’ll give it a try. However there’s no way I’m preordering and I’ll definitely wait for a month or 2 after launch to see if it’s good. If Darktide is in a good place I’ll probably just fully ignore it.

I know you said you’re ok with it, but the stupid FatShark bucks system and rotating cosmetics is awful to me. I want to make an informed purchase, however that is literally impossible because I don’t know if an item will come back, or if there is a similar option I like more that I don’t know if it exists. Additionally even if I do want to get something, paying for 1k credits for a 700 credit item feels like I’m paying too much, even if it’s just psychological. Additionally I still can’t get over the fact that there are only 2 base weapon skins available in the game for free. I know all of this has been said before but for me the cash stores current implementation will remain as a stain on Darktide for the foreseeable future.

I was looking forwards to Payday 3. Seems “Hope is the first step on the road to disappointment”

IMO Payday 3 will go free 2 play 1-2 years after its release.

If Starbreeze survive that long…which I assume they will.

Also its a possibility that Payday fans are so used to giving them money they might just buy all the season pass stuff anyways
