Patch Reaction

As if there hasn’t been hyperbole everywhere.

I think they want to be the four musketeers and swash buckle the nurgle horde to death :stuck_out_tongue:

From my observation it’s a lot more on one side than the other. I’d struggle to find equivalently absurd statements as Zealot is dead or you can only use a handful of weapons successfully on Damnation.

You’re half right. We generally want Damnation to be a real struggle yeah. Obviously current plasteel drop rates works against that which is why I’d personally really like lower difficulty material drop rates to be dramatically increased. Ideally there is a difficulty equivalent to Cata from VT2 where you aren’t incentivised to do it for any other reason than to get your ass kicked.

A lot of Tide players do be masochists I wouldn’t argue otherwise.

Maybe that’s why there is a difference of opinions here. At least in part, 40k is about massive over the top battle’s and weapons people (or things) dying by the score torrents of fire or flame etc some people who came here will have been looking for that I’m sure.

Most of the hyperbole I see on the pro nerf side is usually the hyperbole about how the OP weapons can demolish everything, even if that’s not really the case in the majority, since a lot of the people making those claims are in their very specific damnation++ bubble with a high survivorship bias (they remember all the games that was easy with a flamethrower, but forget the ones where someone struggled a bit even with those weapons - it does happen).

A big issue with the particular changes isn’t that it’s a nerf at all, it’s that, at least in the case of the power sword, the changes made makes it feel worse to use, even if the damage/cleave/stagger is pretty much unchanged.

taking on a challenge, that gets you punished, bitten up and sometimes killed just to prove you are worthy for the emperor isnt masochism, or is it?

That’s also a good point.

(I only play in random public games btw)

For sure, I just disagree it’s reasonable to be looking for that in the top difficulty. You can get that feeling from high int at lower difficulties to an extent, but then of course there’s always the issue of unreliable access to modifiers. There are definitely compounding frustrations here, I do appreciate that.

@zaygr For sure. And balancing QP against pre mades is always gonna be a sticking point. I do think pre mades deserve something sufficiently challenging for them though, which again brings me back to the issue of Damnation just being kinda way too rewarding compared to other difficulties currently.

yeah, playing on pubs takes a different skill level, not only AI director is against you, but also RNG odds of matching…

its far easier to clear with good team, with well balanced equipment than with bunch of randoms, eho may be very good on each own, but their equipment, hence playstyles do not add up

Yeah, if there wasn’t such a big rewards jump between 4 and 5 the noise probably wouldn’t be as loud as it is now. If the itemisation wasn’t a such a slot machine necessitating those other rewards. If every change to the itemisation didn’t only at best put a band-aid over such a gaping hole of an itemisation system. If only the game didn’t fight against you so much against how you want to play.

I can see something like a nerf to a favourite weapon (OP or otherwise) would be the straw that breaks the camel’s back for a lot of people, especially with the continual inaction about the overall itemisation system. The mission system. The archetype/class/character system.

True.

I think also the idea of relying on your teammates to protect you in some situations is a bit alien to a lot of people and they want to be able to look after themselves more :man_shrugging:

eventually its a fantasy-game where you demolish fantasy monsters with fantasy blessed weapons on a fantasy map. how to balance fantasy? just let us choose our in our fantasy crafted weapons and if they are too op for other people, they do not have to choose em.

Who said anything about loathing fantasy sci-fi?? It’s the tedious melee combat I love!!
Makes you feel more badass when you twist it to your advantage and still manage to succeed, which I think is what they’re going for with the whole "rejects will rise"thing.
Have you ever tried Warframe? It really is an excellent game if you love sci-fi and just wanna blow off steam with friends and feel powerful.

I knew it! One for all and all for one! :stuck_out_tongue:

Four musketeers with fixed bayonets, your lasgun can also be your sword

I wonder how a chain rapier would feel to use. Would it be a drill instead?

Seems like a bunch of players that got carried by op weapons to difficulties where they don’t belong are a bit salty. Power sword and flamers keep being excellent weapons even after the nerf. This patch was very good job.
