Patch Reaction

The steam ratings took a hit, people are review bombing it again, it’s really astounding the amount of rage and tantrum coming from this community the moment the 2 best weapons in the game get brought in line with the rest, and I find it kind of pathetic tbh.
They’re not even bad, just adjusted, most people who tried the flamer post patch say they don’t really notice a difference.
To everyone who is pissed because they wasted hundreds of hours farming power cycler through the current “crafting” system only for this to happen: who’s fault is that now???
Everyone has said the system is broken and needs work, don’t take it seriously, expect changes, don’t waste time on it. If you do, that’s on you, expect stuff like this to happen, it won’t be the last time, I promise you that. The devs are focused on making a game where every option works and is fun with the right build.
The argument “why nerf stuff in a PvE co-op game?”: Because there’s a thing called game theory that says for a game to be fun you need objectives, obstacles, and ways to solve them. If things become overtuned, you lose the balance and the game becomes pointless.
This game is trying to be strategic & challenging, use what you have and become badass through skill and clever builds, not by using the best broken things as a crutch.
I never used either of the 2 nerfed weapons because I found them boring, there’s plenty of options for every class that work just fine.
People keep using deep rock galactic as an example of everything darktide is not. You know what DRG doesn’t have? Overtuned crutch weapons that everyone uses because they make the game easy. Especially not the flamethrower.
DRG is fun because it’s hard and forces good teamwork to succeed, DT should be too, don’t you think?
They really need to unf**k their crafting system so people can deal with balance changes more fluidly, it seems like there are too many who just can’t help themselves and spend hundreds of hours trying to grind the best possible meta thing in a game that’s about as stable as a storm at sea…

quite the stockpile of butthurt you’ve found there. it’s fun reading how much of the community has a skill issue and thinks that fatshark is supposed to reward it.

nope - a few thought certain weapons were „broken“

So you aren’t affected by the nerfs and find them thus justified - great man!

Strange to see people cheering on the game getting worse even if it’s because a chunk of people got angry and most likely left.

It was the opposite for me tbh, I used them so much that it became clear to me that any other option couldn’t compete with them.

Yeh, Most of the pro nerf people come across that way from what ive seen. Or at the very least dismissive of other people’s thoughts and feelings like this guy was right here >

A guy who does not even play the game right now

But he’s all for spoiling the fun of other people and dismissing their angry reaction while intimating it does not matter at all and is unjustified. Arrogant.

A few did? “A few” people have a problem with the progression system? Buddy how long have you been here, it’s like all anyone talks about anymore…

The “baby rage” is the opinion of players who also paid for the game and have the same right as everybody else to complain or say their opinion. so i´m baby raging too, with my 45 y and beeing a dad. so what. the game is not designed around these self called “pro players” who maybe should play cs or cod instead. its´s for the people who wants to have fun and not a serious competition. coop means playing together, there is no competition between players. if its too easy then make a private server with “pro” friends, take T5 high intensity and play only “well balanced” weapons imo.

Thought you were talking about the weapons being „broken“ - my bad. On the progression being broken indeed most seem to agree.

Yeah I’ve been too busy with work and other stuff and this game is a lot more satisfying when you can sit down and actually play for a decent time. I don’t see how that affects my ability to judge the hilariously bad tone of a heap of those comments.

I’m all for balancing the game. I’d rather people weren’t made sad by it but I also have little control over others’ irrational reactions. Especially the severity of those reactions oh my. Yet somehow I’m the one being called out on my tone? That is some insane bias at play.

If I seem like I’m dismissing and laughing off some complaints it’s not because I take pleasure in it, it’s simply a defence mechanism to some of the insane hyperbole that gets thrown around after a nerf like this. I’ve seen it said that Zealot is dead, there are only a handful of Damnation viable weapons in the whole game, that FS loves nerfs (despite vast majority buffing over the game’s current life cycle). At what point am I excused for getting kind of flippant towards these reactions?

What I haven’t done, unlike the comments I was commenting on, is swear at anyone, be actively aggressive and partake in name calling or similar. At worst I’ve told some people that they were carried if they can’t play Damn after the changes. That’s a little mean sure but it’s usually at worst matching the tone of what I’m responding to.

I don’t understand you or your problem here dude.

Edit: Ok maybe baby rage is kind of a low shot but are you reading some of those comments? You’d think this was a life or death issue from some of those.

Yeh i know. It was a guy like you talking here last night that prompted me to make this thread.

I am playing vet, i never played VT before so mele combat is still learning curve for me. Ive started the game with shovel, once i got PS back in Nov i never could find any other good replacement.

What i have larnned when switching over to antax 5 with BM (520 rating, so quite good), is that:

  • PS had great offensive capabilities and horrible defense
  • PS is slow in every aspect, hence you can only attack if you plan correctly
  • PS overconfidence gets you killed
  • Mk5 has better speed, better dogde and far better push.
  • Mk5 takes longer to clear the horde, but chance of survival are bigger
  • Mk5 dodge seems better too, could be placebo effect

i like it in the end. this nerf seems like a new content drop

//edit: i was quite lucky to have 5 mk5s in the inventory already as emperors gifts. 2 of them with very good stat distribution, one with bad had BMt3, so making good weapon was few minutes of perk reroll. I would probably have different opinion if I had none of these.

It’s life or death in the context of playing the game or not. Subtext and context is a thing.

I feel like most of the people who have a huge problem with this weapon balancing should go play Warframe instead.
That game is the ultimate power fantasy that encourages you to overtune yourself as much as humanly possible while throwing insurmountable odds at you just to see how much you can take.
It’s not about challenge & teamwork, just 4 demigods trying to see who can get the most grandiose kills.
That, while fun, is not the kind of game DRG/VT/DT are, and that’s ok.

With all due respect that is the most p1ss weak defence of the tone of those comments imaginable. It caused me to die in a video game so let’s insult the devs.

I can still use my old power sword. :man_shrugging: I already had the hang of re activating my weapon directly after my last swing hits in the chain so I can continue to cleave before the zombies recover from the stagger of the last hit, somtimes a little back step or a shove.

Its just a bit more janky to use now and a lot of people probably wont figure that out and will get frustrated…

Not to mention this nerf makes power cycler mandatory on this weapon now.

I feel like most people who welcome these nerfs should go back to vermintide instead.

There they can have tedious melee combat without the fancy 40k sci-fi stuff they seem to loath.

I think you missed my point. I wasn’t talking about dying in the game, I was rather thinking about how for them, using fun weapons (whether it’s overpowered or not) may have been one of the few things keeping them playing the game and now that their fun weapon is gone/less fun/etc., there’s no reason for them to play, the game is dead to them, etc. That’s not all of them, of course, but that’s the tone I’m getting from a fair few of them. Directly insulting the devs is pretty childish though.

i am 100% there with you, i just used nerf as reason to change playstyle. once (maybe this quarter!;)) i get power cycler for sure i will come back and be the bad vet with a crutchsword again

Sure but you can’t really design a game around that.

Maybe the only thing that keeps me playing is I have a weird Nurgle fetish but I couldn’t expect the Devs to design the game around that. I dunno like I can step back and accept that this change isn’t what some people wanted and that there’s a good argument that there were more pressing changes. It’s really just the hyperbole that kills me.
