Overclocked my 5800x to 1900 fclk, now I get more FPS than my 2700 on my 4090

Hey guys, I had made a post saying that I get the exact same FPS on my 4090 between a Ryzen 5800x and a Ryzen 2700. Well it turns out I had just set it up wrong. Apparently I had the wrong setup for my ram, it was not running 1:1 with the infinity fabric like its supposed to for best performance. Once I overclocked it to 1900 fclk and set the ram at 3800 mhz cl 16, my computer turned into a rocketship. Now Darktide runs alot smoother, and I still see it dip into the 40’s briefly but not as bad as it used to. It seems to power through it within a few seconds and goes back up past 60 FPS.

Overall im happy with Darktides performance now. Sure the game could be better optimized, but it seems brute force can win with the right setup at 4K, who would have thought eh?

What settings did you change in your BIOS?

Are you playing at 4k no DLSS or what.
40fps is not ok on a 4090.

Anyway, glad you finally configured your memory on your PC.
You can try to set up PBO if you haven’t already.

Yes, using PBO is a good idea. You cannot directly undervolt Ryzen X3D processors with Ryzen Master.

If you want to check if your memory frequency setup is optimal, you can use Ryzen Master and consult these lines on the dashboard:

Coupled mode should be ON. Mem clock and Fabric clock obviously should be the same.

I have an Asus X370 crosshair VI hero. 1.3 Voltage 175 PBO overclock ( 5025 mhz ) PBO is enabled along with the Asus Tweak that boosts to highest single core frequency. SOC is at 1.13. I just hit FCLK 1900 mhz and it booted right up. I tried going higher but it got a ton of WHEA errors so settled on 1900 mhz.

I played with and without DLSS. Honestly I dont need the frames from DLSS so I prefer to stick at native 4K, looks better anyway. frames hover around 70 fps in game, can go all the way up to 130 and very rarely now dips into 50’s. 40’s is extremely rare now, its the game engine not anyone’s PC imo.

I tried using DLSS quality to boost frames. While it did increase maximum frames slightly, it did not fix the FPS drops. So unless your running a 120 hz panel for 4K its kinda useless for me. Im at 4K 60 hz so native is the way to go for me.

DRR4 4000 mhz ram in gear 1 is the Intel equivalent to this which is my ram configuration. 60 hz/fps is awful, if you want an actually good frame rate with high settings then you have to run this game in 1080p or 1440p.

Ive been gaming at 60 hz / 60 FPS my entire life, and 30 fps before 60 FPS was even a thing. That’s over 30 years of gaming. You want awful? Try playing Goldeneye for N64, you get even less than 30 FPS, and that game is considered to be a legendary game in the video game hall of fame. Anyone can game at 60 hz / 60 FPS, you just dont like it. I cant help you there and neither can the video game community.

I game at native 4K. My 43 inch panel has over 3 billion colors and the image quality is insane. I wont give up what I have just to play at 120 hz. My panel is so good, I can see further into the distance and snipe more effectively than a smaller 120 hz panel.

Every computer Monitor setup has advantages and disadvantages. I will take my superior image and color quality and enjoy gaming on it for years to come.

60 fps is unplayable.

" 60 fps is unplayable for me " fixed it for you ; )

What is actually your point? Gamers should settle for 60 frames? Just because they can? Just because you did? 60 fps is objectively awful by today’s standards, get your rose-tinted lenses out of here. This is the mentality of complacency that sees innovation and advancement stagnate. “Anyone can game with 4 cores! You want awful? Try playing on the dual-core pentiums of old. I’ve been using them my whole boomer life, so should you!”:clown_face:

You can keep saying 60 FPS is awful all you want. It is your opinion. Everyone is entitled to an opinion. I will continue to enjoy 4K native resolution while you play at your pathetic 1440p and 1080p noob resolutions. What a clown.

Also for the record, I didnt " settle " on 60 FPS. It was an UPGRADE. It was an UPGRADE and a privilege to get a 43" 4K panel back in 2016 when 4K resolution was new and exciting, and I have no regrets. I have seen and witnessed some of the best video game graphics in multiple titles in glorious 4K since 2016. One day I will upgrade to a 120 hz or 144 hz panel, but the time is not right yet.

Not even the mighty Geforce RTX 4090 can handle 60 hz 4K with all settings and RTX on, so hardware STILL hasent caught up to my 2016 4K panel. If you knew anything about computer graphics and what modern graphics cards are capable of, you would have known that. But you didnt. So that makes you a troll.

Wait is this satire, or are you actually that daft lmao? I’ll humour you lil bro. “You can keep saying 1440p and 1080p are awful all you want. It is your opinion. Everyone is entitled to an opinion. I will continue to enjoy 100+ fps while you play at your pathetic noob 60 fps. What a clown.”
