Exact same FPS between a Ryzen 2700 and a 5800x at 4K on a 4090

Title says it all. I tested this game with my old Ryzen 2700 running at 4125 ghz overclocked vs a PB2 overclocked Ryzen 5800x at 5050 mhz. Same mobo, same ram, same hard drive, same 4090.

Saw no difference in FPS and still dropped into the 40’s sometimes. The cpu did not change anything. All testing was done in native 4K, DLSS quality 4K as well.

So apparently if you game at 4K it does not matter what cpu you have, if its an old Ryzen 1700 you will be fine because your not missing out on anything, because it wont make a difference.

I hope this knowledge will help someone laters all!

Good to know. But tbh, some performance troubles are not on CPU-side, more likely V-card related. Having same FPS with a friend of mine. Running 3080 lhr edition on different CPU architectures with same FPS… old i9-9900kf on my side, OC up to 5GHz with 4200 DDR4 and Fresh out of the oven Ryzen 7950x with DDR5 6400.
Say hello to last stage on a Magistrati Oubliette TM8-707. RTX literaly killing perfomance there below 40 FPS, maybe even 20.

Also open landing zones on Excise Vault Spireside-13 and Refinery Delta-17. Same cool view on Spire of the Hive city, same low perfomance on both rigs. FPS drops below 30, never checked how deep it falls.

Chasm station HL-16-11 pretty unstable on train crash site. FPS always creepled by 10-15 from 60 lock. No idea whats going on there, but next room and boss fight is smooth.

CPU does not matter as much at high resolutions, this is well known. What is your point?

Need to investigate further. Probably issue with crazy amount of polygons, not sure how much RTX impact on it. Something ain’t right with this section and with some luck, i’ll make vid with another troublesome section.

gpu is always the largest bottleneck in higher resolutions. Switching to a somewhat aged cpu just tells you that it’s very much gpu bottlenecked. You can try checking your cpu vs gpu usage %. If you have near 100% gpu and less than 100% cpu, then your gpu is at capacity. If your cpu is near 100% but your gpu is decently lower than 100%, then your gpu is likely spending time waiting for the cpu to send instructions.

There’s definitely a couple of maps or parts of maps that are way worse than others, apparently regardless of your rig setup.

I’d love to be able to say which maps they are, but the map names aren’t easy to remember, let alone match up with the maps themselves.

majority of the game is GPU dependent, if I’m not mistaken the CPU only does shaders, enemy ragdolls and scatter density that’s it, my biggest recommendation to everyone is play at 1440p/2K and just use reshade and tweak it you can make it look exactly like 4k without the performance loss, and majority of 1440p/2k You’ll get more monitor Hrtz which is always a plus

You’re going to be GPU limited at 4K but with a good GPU like 3090 it is what it is, once you have reached a compromise with your settings for optimal fps

This game is cpu limited at 1080p btw. Turning down graphics settings does not improve the frame rate for me. Garbage optimization.

problem could be there?

not overly surprised the cpu isnt making any real difference but the performance is shocking.
i get better on my gtx 1080+i76700k admitedly i am playing on 1080p and quite a few settings toned down, but still im over 60 fps most of the time never below 40.

anyone else with a 4090 is this common to the card?

Is that really necessary?

what?

His point is obvious. He is pointing out that GPU’s have less impact on FPS than a CPU at 4K.
