I don’t play the ogryn at all. The vaulting feels even more clumsy than the rest of the classes, the weapon variety is limited, and I don’t like any of the abilities. I like being a tank, but it’s just not worth it.
Zealots have a ton of viable builds, the ability to clutch as the backbone of the group, and deliver a unique melee experience, plus their VO is often hilarious. Ogryn VO is also often very funny, but I rarely see one in the wild these days.
all around i hear people say how ogryn is super fun to play, ‘‘it feels like you’re in a kindergarten and you’ve been given a baseball bat’’ was my favorite.
the only critique i hear is they wish for more weapons.
Toughness bonuses favor heavy attacks, not actual stats. Some weapons have their best damage options on light attacks (cleaver stab, club strikedowns - that single attack does about 100 more flak damage than a heavy) And not every class is appealing globally I agree. But the current direction of Ogryn is pretty disappointing for me vs pre 13. I miss being the bully. Zealot with a Crusher and impact nodes bullies heretics far better, and will do damage near the level of pickaxe (by far the best damage option for ogg melee).
Hmmm… My feeling at this point is that you need 500 more hours, at least, before judging what is good or bad.
Cause all threads you have opened are wrong.
I am not the best ogryn, but just to point ONE build that is known and excellent… Bullgryn
You can even destroy a demon host with it…
I have seen a bullgryn completing the twins in hard mode. So, you should ask advices, talk about your difficulties but stop starting threads with such statements.
Weapon loadout also affect build variety. I find that most of the builds on Ogryn ends up feeling the same because of that.
Any chance you can put up or write down the clear time of that run? The lack of dividing the damage into melee and ranged categories makes it so that the total damage is unclear on where it came from. Seeing that amount of boss damage makes me want to guess on Gunlugger with Light 'em Up stubber for boss damage.
And if that is the case, what does that scoreboard have anything to do with the discussion about light and heavy melee attacks?
The most notable ones would be Smash 'Em and The Best Defence, which works with heavy attacks. Combined with more heavy attack talents and you have a clear favoured way to play Ogryns, so that gameplay then becomes defined by heavy attacks.
yeah we don’t have many weapons, wish we had more but oh well here we are for now. That run was just an average Auric Maelstrom so like 30 minutes roughly, and yeah ive been running a gunlugger build recently because its fun, and it was a general response to the statement about lack of dps, you can do crazy melee damage too if you want, i just like running gunlugger at the moment. And for toughness regen there are also weapon blessings to regen toughness, not just heavy attacking talents, you can mix and match and play however you want, and have a damn fun time doing it
Ah, miscommunication on my part then. Yeah, Ogryns can dish out good damage.
Post I’m referring to mentioned talents only, but Ogryns do have really good toughness replenish blessings on weapons aswell which does allow Ogryns to tank alot of damage.
being incentivised to use heavy attacks (for some reason)
makes the gameplay somewhat samey.
It isn’t to say that the class doesn’t work, but it is in dire need of more options. Of course I understand that probably won’t happen, because fatshark saves effort and money by making weapons that can be shared between classes, which cannot be the case for Ogryn weapons.
Ogryn is simultaneously the strongest, easiest operative to play, and the most difficult to understand what makes them actually get to that point and playing them well.
Easily the tankiest with the right build. Virtually unkillable if you know what you’re doing. The only problem is that ogryn is bad at dodging and you can get stomped by overheads and nets easily. Block Efficiency is your friend.
Ripper Guns with Can Opener can let you 1-2 combo Crushers if you crit.
Batter gives you bleed on heavy attacks.
The Best Defence is the best sustain talent in the game.
Light 'Em Up has unparalleled DPS.
Loyal Protector keeps the team alive.
Feel No Pain makes you really tanky and it’s very easy to maintain stacks.
Burst Limiter Override makes gunlugging really fun.
Personally I find the charge/heavy hitter build to be their weakest. Indomitable has a narrow knockdown path and it’s very easy to get domed by an overhead while you’re moving in one direction (enemies track on you when you aren’t facing them).
