Is Ogryn the weakest class?

As I have been trying to do more Penances I have moved to my least favorite class the Ogryn…

And as it seems not much has changed since I played Ogryn last time.
Massive target for ranged enemies. Too slow to avoid, has no meaningful range weapons to deal with them while having no real advantage in close combat, and limited to using Heavy attacks and having the least toughness, to begin with.

Ogryn is just really not fun for me no matter what I try at this point :frowning:

Gun Lugger is okay but gets boring real quick.

What do you guys think about Ogryn ?

What advice do you have for noob like me to be better with this class?

Do you ENJOY playing as Ogryn ?

The core issue with Ogryn is all but one class of the melee weapons are very weak and require reworks soon

I like Ogryn. I think actually the avatars are all much of a muchness, but yes, maybe the Ogryn is a harder-to-master class if you’re newer to entering FatShark games.

I think the left hand tree is a lot more “playable” than the other two.
I grab the top left tree. The top right through frag bomb, then zag across to the Indomintable ability and down from there. I can share a build if you like - even if it’s not “meta” it’s still pretty good.

Ogryn is my most played class and easily the strongest/best class in my opinion.

Pick your own curios. But don’t take wounds o_O - I see that a lot with the mistaken belief it reduces the % damage you take. Erm. No! :stuck_out_tongue:

The build is good for 1-5+ , but I know many people take a different club. The kickback is a lazy choice but definitely an easy intro to higher levels (and I don’t assume you’re not there - sorry if that’s “lazy” commentary). The shotguns with can opener are really good too.

The mk4 cleaver is also good. Good at penetrating armour, and good+fast enough to one-stab horde members. But I do find many of the Ogryn skills are keyed to heavy attacks, so on that basis a club-sweep action is nicer imho.

In my experience Ogryn’s aren’t weak at all, but they’re a bit odd.

For me, Ogryn works best one of two ways. I have never been able to work terribly well as a melee powerhouse (too slow in just about every way its possible to be slow), but as a defensive taunt build with a shield you can make the rest of your team insanely killy by keeping the enemy focused on you and pushing/staggering them about. Being a giant disruption/taunt machine works wonders. The other way they work well requires some assistance from the rest of the team, but if they’re willing to feed you ammo, running around with a properly built stubber and gobs of munitions will mulch through literally anything.

Yes the Ogryn is the most unfun. Insanely weak light attacks even though you’re an Ogryn. Heavy attacks need 2 seconds wind up like you’re suffering from some muscle issues. Most weapons are mediocre. Class needs massive buffs.

Buffing the strongest class would be pretty awesome, maybe more people would start playing ogryn, but then again people would start complaining that the game would be too easy

What are your builds and weapon choice as well blessings perks if I may ask ?

In my experience, Ogryn is a relaxing mode.

Hard-hitting and very tough, pretty unkillable.

1 thing, never use stamina curios on ogryn, they are awful. Another thing, read this Ogrynomicon_Unlocked_and_Loaded.pdf - Google Drive

It’s got everything you could ever want to know about ogryn, his weapons, abilities, everything.

Currently on Ogryn I have been running a Gunlugger build

All 3 of my curios are the same, +17% toughness etc.

Now when im not running my gunlugger, i use this build

And with the same 3 +17% toughness curios.

You could also switch out the bottom keystone for the heavy hitter side like this

Kinda personal preference and thats the neat thing about making a build, you can tweak it and change it to your liking, same with the weapons, you can use the shovels the clubs the pickaxes whichever you prefer and they can all perform great

ogryn is the most entertaining class to play as long as your team is not blind to ranged enemies, which will be the cause of most of the damage you take. if your team just leaves you to them it’s going to be annoying and it’s their fault.

Do you know that you do not need to hold down the button until the heavy attack is performed automatically?

Thank you and yes I did red your Ogrynomicon  good stuff!

I certainly feel the slow, huge target you become as an Ogryn is not made up for with increased durability. Other classes can carve through enemies more efficiently, and can avoid damage more effectively.

ogryn is actually quite a technical class, with a delay in dodging compared to other classes, making it difficult to get used to. although it has plenty of HP and toughness, if you don’t fully understand the means to recover toughness and how to play, you’ll go down quickly. ogryn’s main enemies are ranged enemies, and you need to use dodge and slide dodges to deal with them. in general, avoid fighting in open areas with lots of gunners. if you use cover and manage your toughness carefully, you’re nearly invincible. it’s recommended to aim for around 180 toughness. in my experience, this amount of toughness with gunner resistance allows you to take a few shots without your toughness breaking. ogryn is a class that can carry even on the highest difficulty, so it’s definitely not weak

Cool thank you for ideas!

YES! it is my most played class by far.

Sliding forward and dodge sliding to the sides and backwards will mitigate the range damage, I also enjoy two toughness curious and one health where all of them also have the toughness perk and gunner resistance, for the last perk slot you can consider toughness regen aswell which works pretty good with lynchpin talent, this’ll get you a way to regain toughness while not actively hitting something with heavy attacks.

While suppressing enemies might not be as good as just outright killing them, it is a way to close the gap on ranged units while conserving ammo. My favourite ranged weapon on Ogryn is Ripper V, it might take some time getting used to the recoil but its swap speed and reload speed makes it crazy good for a thick of the fray ranged weapon used on specialists and disablers.

Having the total ammo % on the weapon to be 66% or below means that the total magazine size will be at 19, meaning that each weapon blessing that the Ripper has that procs on 10% ammo spent (such as Blaze Away, Inspiring Barrage and so on) will now proc on each shot since that 1,9 on ammo spent per stack will be rounded down to 1. If you are running a cleaver, you can’t go wrong with Can Opener blessing on a Ripper aswell.

If you feel that you lack toughness gain while not being able to hit ranged units, I’d recommend using Inspiring Barrage on a Ripper, even firing blindly will regain alot of toughness.

I think generally sweeping attacks with stagger to knock most enemies around to be pretty good advantages though.

the two +25 toughness nodes are as a close as mandatory picks for talents as you’ll ever get, or at least really high on the priority list.
