Hey mates. Long story short, my ogryn was originally my main class. Over time though I fell out of favour with him and I found the other classes to be a lot stronger. There’s a bunch of reasons for that, but I don’t want to wall of text so I’ll summarise by saying I’d like to rekindle my love of ogryn again if possible. I’m looking for some strong/popular builds to try out.
I use the skill tree to favour melee and anything that helps Toughness regen. So mostly middle and left for me.
If you choose the big box of grenades then you can select Toughness skills on both sides.
I use indomitsble too which is now invaluable, given the buffs to ranged enemies. It allows you to either get to them or get out of a sticky situation quickly.
Stay close aura and heavy hitter are a good mix too.
Edit: don’t forget curios! I use 2x for gunners and 1x for snipers but I might change sniper to flamer… Hard to judge that now but flamer’s can be real problems now.
I wish there was a mod which allows you to export your builds into the Build Editor for Darktide - Create your own Darktide Builds - Darktide WH40k links automatically.
There is plenty of ways to play Ogryn, I favour melee, but love unloading rippers into large hordes also.
What kind of playstyles do you like? Also whilst the game isn’t that complex, running a good build also requires UNDERSTANDING how to use it.

Check it out, what I really enjoyed is that it goes in depth about the “why” you want to pick talents/weapons/etc
like usual people are way over stating the significance/actual numbers of ogryns too much. I’d still say number 5 shovel is ludicrous to a huge degree, but whatever. especially with these turbo buff ragers, are you gonna find a safer weapon than one that can rip 4 out of a crowd in one hit?
heavy hitter tree, thrust, brutal momentum, carapace + unyielding. nonsensical levels of killing all the things at all times.
basher is kinda fun and so are the new picks, but the shovels probably could have used more tuning down than not janking through the odd ogryn patrol (odd now, not odd before).

Kickback to wipe specialists from any range. And spam special attack for easy toughness

Yeah I love the shovel but I’m honestly going to struggle to go back to it after getting a feel for the Karsolas. If they extend the reach a bit then it’ll be a done deal. I really like it.
For ranged I prefer rumbler now simply because it can go a much longer distance and disrupt a nest of gunners with ease. Plus it makes a fun noise.

This is my build and what I consider best: Meta Ogryn - Build for Darktide - Darktide WH40k
Toughness on heavies, Rock, bleed charge, bleed on heavies, Feel No Pain + dip left, grab all TDR nodes on the tree. IIIb Club + Rumbler to kill armor, Rumbler + Rock to deal with specials. You deal plenty of damage, have charge for space / reposition / escape, and are a clutch machine (esp if you choose 30% revive speed (it’s noticable)).

I joined the DarkLantern discord to request whether they could give you the ability to import/export builds using the same system. Think a guy called Brock mods that … but I don’t know if they think it generally is something they want to support etc. - think it’d be cool though. And an easier way for people to move builds from game to a forum to share (and back).
Never quite understood the idea behind grabbing all the 10% TDR nodes with FNP.
Before maybe (not really as you’d have 70% without), but now that it’s multiplicative, just why, especially since you have to give up 25% toughness for it, which is simply flat out superior.
Haymaker can only proc once per swing no matter what, making skullcrusher more consistent. I guess I don’t need the gunner DR anymore tho, rip threating banana shooters
