Of the Veteran’s ranged weapons, only the plasma gun is unique. My proposal is aimed at diversifying the class specifically with ranged weapons.
We know that the Heretics have a machine gunner and the Scab has a hellgun. Why not add such a weapon with unique mechanics to the Veteran?
Let the machine gun and hellgun take away the ability to use melee combat, but offer their own unique gameplay specifically for ranged combat.
Machine Gun:
It will differ from all other weapons in its huge ammo capacity. When aiming, it will “stand up” like Ogryn does, increasing accuracy.
Since the machine gun takes away our melee capabilities, we need an equivalent. Let the alt attack be a bayonet strike.
Hellgun:
It’s exactly the same, but a more powerful option against armor with the same huge ammo capacity. In an alt attack, you can give him a knife, which he can use to fight back when pressed.
And of course, give him a bag/battery on his back; we already have a direct example with two Heretics.
I don’t argue that the Veteran is very flexible in itself, but it’s precisely this flexibility that sets it apart from other classes, without anything truly unique in terms of weapons. The Zealot, for example, has a flamethrower and a two-handed weapon, and I won’t even mention the Ogryn and Psyker. For me, the Veteran is someone who can potentially maximize ranged combat, and yes, that’s true, but it’s strange to see the absence of these two weapons; they seem to be begging to be added to his arsenal.

Can I highlight that OP is called “Krieg”, like just like can we see the irony in what he missed.
IMO neither Machine Gun nor Hellgun/Hotshot should be added as priority, as neither really would really introduce new gameplay (Braced Autogun, and “Lasgun but better”)
But there are lore weapons that FS could add that would introduce new gameplay avenues:
Grenade Launcher: Multi-tube Grenade launcher, working like the Ogryn’s Grenadier Gauntlet, but without the melee, while getting more ammo
I named what’s already in the game… Literally, it’s there, but not for us. Although Darktide lore suggests we’re carrying weapons from the battlefield, for some reason the machine gun and hellgun weren’t on this list, which is simply illogical. That’s why I didn’t emphasize completely new weapons; of course, there are plenty of new ones.

Fwiw i want that. I want to absolutely replace the brauto. Number 1 brauto hater here, bad weapon, a disgrace to assault rifle family, no honor, no charisma, probably on the Epstein list, i hide my loved ones when i see a vet running brauto because I can never guess their intentions.
If fatshark just turned executioner’s stance into Bardin’s Engineer ult from vt2 and your weapon choices were these 2 and like a grenade launcher or a sniper rifle that you get one clip to spend on enemies with a percentile ammo return based on elite/special kills the world would be saved.
I don’t see why we need these to be fully customizable weapons. Just make it a skill and your ability just acts as a third weapon slot. IT gives vet a ton of freedom in terms of ranged weapon variety in a ranged build, you don’t have to worry about it being the “better lasgun/autogun/hellbore” because it’s designed to fill those roles while your other ranged weapon acts as a go-between as you run out of ammo, and finally solves the problem of exe stance being this incredibly strong ability up until you finally run out of ammo and then it does virtually nothing except stun immunity.
