The idea been burning in my head and I just wanted to write it down:
ratling sniper: ranged focused class with a POWERFUL single shot bolt action sniper rifle unique weapon. able to grappling hook up to a location / wall for X_time can extend on kills or weakspot hits. > Able to sense/highlight equipment drops (ammo, resources). > able to open specific chests that only a ratling can “lockpick” > high risk high reward class to more easily take out HVT but not great in hordes. > Alternate build can carry a minigun…because a it’s fraggin funny to imagine a ratling blasting away with a gun the size of his own body > not fast…but is able to “ride” on top of an orgyn player
mechanicus class: True Mission support class. > able to “unlock” alternate/faster routes through a mission. > able to deploy ranges servo-skulls that can do the tasks that a player would (hit the button thing/revive a player at a distance) > able to deploy a turret (PLEASE!) > able to give a kinda “armor” buff to the 1st wound under toughness > unique weapon servo claw (automatic melee when you have a ranged weapon equipped. not fast but powerful, can manually control) > able to “bless” a weapon to empower it for a teammate. > not super powerful on his own
I like it but would trade stealth for the minigun would be much better ”camouflage cloak” in lore if I remember correctly. Also too difficult to model?
Skitarii
Tempestus Scion
(Our version of the gunner enemy with hotshot las gun ult/vet subclass)
Krieg grenadier / Krieg engineer
(Vet subclass/focus on explosives/shotgun/melee)
Ogryn
Bullgryn, Bonehead, Lugger (kind of already there)
Of the ideas I have seen to date, a techpriest class makes the most sense to me. Techpriests are rare and valuable compared to the convict gutter trash the players represent. But certainly more common than psykers, and techpriests can be falsely accused of crimes just like everyone else.
In the context of the game a “former disgraced skitarii” character isn’t all that different from the veteran backgrounds we have already. A gearhead with passable combat experience.
I think a Rogue Trader type class might work. Voice personalities could be Noble, Adventurer and Pirate. Has access to the standard Autoguns, Lasguns, Shotguns and Pistols, and Swords, Knives and Duelling Swords. I’d quite like to give them a few xenos weapons as their special stuff, but Hadron would destroy those if you tried to get her to upgrade them, so maybe not XD. Maybe they have a type of duelling sword and digi-laser that works like Saltzpyre’s Rapier & Pistol in Vermintide.
Talent trees could include a sword and pistol ‘duellist’ playstyle line, one focused on stealth and applying debuffs to enemies, and another that gives you and your team buffs for doing heroic stuff (elite/special hunting, etc).
I still think that the pet class should be tacked on the Zealot, having it be next to the Preacher, and having a special case where you have a combined Ability/Keystone that offer the Cyber Mastiff
The other side of Zealot getting a Crusader inspired class
Tech Priest yes are a bit too high in influence and would be kept by the Admech, and processed in-house. Same for Skitarii, but Tech Adept could work as a low enough, but knowledgeable enough to not have such problems.
Ratling and Squats (And any other smaller stature PoV) won’t happen cause we already have 2 PoV and increasing it make it much harder on the map team.
Mostly in cases when arbites are enforcers on some shithole hive worlds, or like on necromunda they are very similar, but overall they are under planetary government control and not a part of ecclesiarchy (ministorum). Short story - it’s either should be vet as a militant structure archetype or complete new archetype, but for the complete new it’s better to be admech.
I think that an Enforcer/Arbite class has a lot of potential merit and fits into the game in a pretty interesting way both mechanically and lorewise/powerlevel wise.
You’d make the class primarily focused around close range shooting and single target damage/disabling, while also having some fun crowd control melee stuff. Unique equipment could include instead of shielded melee weapons, shielded range weapons. Advancing down a hallway of shooters with your shield up and bolt pistol firing would provide a pretty unique way to pressure/advance on shooters that would feel good within the health of the game. And yeah, even enforcers or Arbites can wind up a reject, as the psyker already shows.
Ratling should just be a veteran bodytype. There’s no reason for it to have its own archetype considering the class system AND you can just hand it human sized weaponry, maybe scaled a little, AND there are long rifles planned in the game as it is.
For veteran specifically the classes that make the most sense to me would be stormtrooper and sniper. Stormtroopers wear heavy armour and carry hellguns with backpack power sources, the cadian voice references kasrkins in various dialogue and that’s the kind of soldier he’s talking about. The inquisition canonically maintains their own stormtrooper corps (which are actually the cream of the crop poached from other stormtrooper formations). But I’m not sure how that would work out lorewise because GW seems to have retconned the existence of stormtroopers and replaced them with the boring donut steel tempestus scions.
Sniper as a class is easier to make, just base it around long ranged combat and stealth. We already have stealth but what we currently lack is proper scoped rifles for engagements beyond 30m. There are many area zones like the trainyard and enclavum finales where a precision shooter would be useful, especially to shoot back at the snipers that spawn in the distance.
Stormtrooper yes, but Sniper is redundant, like we have the Shaprshooter.
What ability/gamestyle are we aiming for.
Stormtrooper contain the Scions, but the other still exist, Regimental Stormtrooper still exist.
But would that need a new class, or what would it be able to bring that couldn’t be brought by simply introducing long range weapons, Longlas (Already leaked), but there is also the Neddleguns, Ballistic guns and possibly a few I forgot.
If those are added to the game, wouldn’t a Veteran that use the stealth or the sharpshooter ability already do all that ?
Think of Shira Calpurnia in the Enforcers Novels.
So it is as uncommon as having a Commissar (think of the skin-set) to have fallen down the ladder (even famed Lord Militant Ibram Gaunt (ex-commissar-colonel) was once on trial)
