Idea for a new Class: "Handler/(Cadet) Commissars"

Not sure if this belongs in “General Discussion” or “Gameplay Feedback”.

So, many people asked for new classes.

Most requested were:

  • Techpriest/Skitarii
  • Ratling (Snipers)
  • Commissar

and overall I’e also seen people ask about more AI allies on the maps.

I came up withg the following idea, which addresses those requests.

How about a “Handler”-Class, maybe with a (Cadet) Commissar Background.
It could function like this:

Overall a support class that gives buffs to the team as the Abilities.
Haven’t worked those out yet.
Maybe 1. Defence, 2. Offence & 3. I dunno…

Main idea so far:
Can call in three types of AI support Units as the Blitz, which funtions as a flare:

1. “PDF Fireteam” (4 Troopers; 3 with Lasgun or Autogun & one with Plasma Rifle/Bolter)
2. “Ratling Snipers” (1 Sniper & 1 Support/Spotter)
3. “Tech/Firesupport” (Tarantula Turret with limited Ammo & 2 Skitarii
OR 1 Techpriest (gives Buffs?))

OR as an alternative for either of those:
4. Cyber-Mastiff & Adeptus Arbites Patrol (2 Dogs & two Arbites)
Let some Dogs hunt the Heretics for once!

They could be either be there with limited time OR until they die… That’s a bit of a Balance thing.

Personally I don’t see much use for Techpriest/Skitarii & Ratling (Snipers) as a class on their own,
but we could use another Support Class anyway and I think that a “fallen” Cadet Commissar is in the realm of believability as a “reject”.

What do you guys think?

I think Commissar is way to close to a Veteran, there isn’t much you can do with them. And making the whole tree have summons would be a bit to much in my opinion.

Rather than having all 3 blitz be summon of various types (Though why not have the summons as abilities), I would prefer to see 1 branch be about summons, where Blitz, Ability and Keystone (I have no idea how an Aura could be themed on summons) are summons, while the rest of the tree is kept for other play styles.

Tech Reject has a lot of potential, as it introduce a faction that is currently untouched (thematically, for personalities), and which is able to introduce weapons that couldn’t be introduce on the current archetypes (Phosphor, Arc, Mechadendrites…), as well as introduce mechanics that fit them very well, like in part the summoner branch.

Where if it’s taken care of by the Tech Reject they could have 1 of the blitz be a Guardian Skull (Servo Skull equipped with Stubbers or Las weapons), have a Servitor Squad as the ability, and Gheistskulls as the keystone (Explosive Servo Skulls)


On the other hand I think increasing the total amount of branches that each archetypes would be quite a great method of increasing the gameplay without needing to increase the number of VA.

For example the Veteran would get a branch that is the Stormtrooper, reusing the Outcast Engineer’s system with a Volley gun, and giving it radiations grenades; the Zealot could get an Enforcer, with concussion grenades and a Cyber mastiff, and on the other side a Crusader ?

Well, that’s not a bad idea too.

And I agree about the Techpriest class.
I was actually thinking more about the problems with the Ratling Snipers…
