New Class suggestions for Darktide

Hi all,

I just recently started playing, but I had a few ideas I wanted to share in case the devs see them on the forums for new classes to be added.

  1. Pariahs - As Blanks/Nulls/Pariahs are ideal against psychic threats, of which the situation on Atoma is definitely one, going by the presence of Daemonhosts and the like, getting a playable Pariah would make a lot of sense. This could either be a Blank of somewhat lesser power, or, ideally, a Sister of Silence novitiate (at the point where she could, but has not yet, taken the Vow of Silence. For the banter). A Culexus would also be an option, but getting a full Omega Minus in there might be a tad overkill for the way the game is meant to function. Not to mention, they might be a bit too dangerous for allied psykers to just be around, since a Culexus likely will not care in the slightest.

  2. Sanctioned Xenos - As the player characters are working directly with the Inquisition, a playable sanctioned Xenos would be amazing to have. This would most likely be an Aeldari - Rangers, Corsairs and Harlequins ought to be the most logical candidates, but I could also see Drukhari wyches (particularly if they are of the Ynnari faction by now) that just relish the challenge of showing the filthy Mon Keigh how it’s done.

  3. Sisters Hospitaller - Not only could they serve as a dedicated healer class with powerful buffs, they could additionally deploy medical countermeasures to Corruption, or weaponize their medical knowledge in various ways. As Sisters Hospitaller are known to research all sorts of pathogens, them being present would also be very sensible and reasonable.

  4. Genestealer Cultists (Magos or Kelermorph) - Now, I know what that sounds like, but hear me out. Genestealer Cults have been known to rise up in defense of their world in cases of Chaos incursions on several occasions, and them engaging in a temporary truce with the Inquisition might be possible. If Zola can strike a deal with underhive gangers, why not tap into every possible resource a hive such as Tertium might hold?

  5. Hive Spyrers - While originally mentioned for Necromunda, Spyrers with their unique armors would make for highly mobile gameplay by comparison, bringing in another speeder like the Hive Scum. Let the nobility shoulder the burden for once!

Some of those wouldn’t work due to lore interactions.

Wouldn’t work alongside Psyker though (and Zealot’s book, and depending on what you consider toughness as a whole)

Also they don’t really have any “active” abilities due to their Blankness

While I’m on the side of a Sister class, having active healing would mess with the balance (healing being a resource that is meant to be limited)

While GSC will at time fight against Chaos cults (ex: Necromunda has a campaign set around a Chaos uprising, and put the GSC alongside the “loyalist”), but them being used overtly would not work lorewise, GSC if found by the Inquisition will be dispatched with, hence the previous campaign by Rannick being GSC extermination on Xanathos.

Spyrer tech is exclusive to Necromunda as is very expensive, if a tech class happen, it most likely gonna be some sort of Admech thing.

Psyker team debuff

Heretical by default, requires lore on the Inquisitor directly.

Single gender class

This needs no counter

Sanctioned Xenos do at time happen under the Inquisition or Rogue Trader crew, so not too heretical. but puritan Inquisitor could take offence on it, but I’d wager that Grendyl ain’t exactly puritan.

Which doesn’t really mean anything tbh, Ogryn is a single gender class.

The aeldari following the mourningstar seem friendly enough

Extra Blanky, a comfortable blanket they put on to feel cozy. This is obvious, duh.

Tho I’ve always found Blanks interesting, it’s too bad the lore is too inflexible for it to make sense, and FS REALLY cares about lore when it means denying new content. XD

This is a great idea that I’d love to see, even if just for one character who gives no crap about the Emperor. XD That said, it’d be a cool concept with a lot of unique weapons. Which is probably its downside, because then FS would have to produce a ton of new weapons and they seem very slow at that.

I mean, Pariahs could always get stealth and a weaker form of the Culexus’ directed beam attacks from absorbing ambient psychic energy. Them passing unseen through battlefields for the kill isn’t unheard of, and being able to briefly deploy their aura like a dome to protect from non-physical damage (like the Pox Burster going boom) could also make for an active that’s decidedly more in the vein of a Sister of Silence :>

I admit it’s a bit of creative license, but getting more options that are known to happen around the Imperium without dipping into Marines tends to take a bit of that. And we already technically have Tempestus Scions in the form of the Arbites, so…we gotta dig deeper!

I’d personally love to see that! Blanks interest me more than Psykers. I don’t know how they’d handle that, perhaps just in voice lines where the Psyker complains about the headaches the Blank gives him. I mean, there are levels of Blanks, so couldn’t we have one who has some extra defenses against the Warp/some unique abilities, but doesn’t necessarily neuter our Psyker?

And as for abilities, I mean, the Vet shouldn’t have any, either, baseline. He uses equipment or just . . . shouts really hard. That’s all it takes, a good set of lungs.

I mean considering he fields hundreds of sanctioned psykers as an active anti-heretic weapon, I’d say so.

Anyway. I’m fairly certain the next class is gonna be admech, and I hope to god after that we don’t have any more classes for a while.

I think that we’ll see 1-2 more, spaced apart by 6 months. They make money.

A genestealer cultist would be interesting. I think it’d be more compelling if they get involved without it being clear what they are to the other characters. The psykers could be suspicious and keep trying to make their concerns known, whilst the zealots could occasionally voice their bemusement about the newcomer’s very unique form of worship.

Its not the kind of thing a squad at our level would have. Even as auric level operatives we are not inquisorial retinue level. We’re ranking members of the war band. You wouldn’t see this level of thing until we reached the dark heresy equivalent of an Ascendant class rank.

Plus what options are there? Eldar and Kroot basically. Kroot sounds boring as nit, and Eldar would be nearly space marine tier.

Jokaero? Sslith mercenaries? Tarellian dog soldiers? I’d prefer giving the space elves some time to shine, but there are other options X3

as funny as monke would be, they are extremely aversed to melee combat, so highly unlikely. And besides, I don’t think Fatshark have it in them to develop another class that can’t share human weapons. As for other xenos, I don’t reckon they’ll be as marketable. Even jokaero are somewhat obscure, not to mention someone like Tarellians. Would be cool though

What weapons would an Eldar use? I don’t know their equipment. Melee, ranged, blitzes, abilities . . .

Scions are more like a sub type of Veteran than Arbites (they even get the helmet iirc).

Tbh there are still possibilities without needing to make stuff up, counting in that we won’t get an infinite numbers of classes either.

  • Admech
  • Sister
  • Beastman
  • Squat (PoV)
  • Inquisitorial Adept (Dark Heresy)
  • if Xenos (only one that could in theory work)
    • Eldar
    • Kroot
    • Tau
I do want to say that adding any Xenos cause heavy narrative problems, as their weaponry would require them being able to access separate armoury (As it would be senseless to see the Admech work on those, i do not ignore the Xenarite, but nothing point to Hadron being of that cloth)

I was actually looking over the list of Eldar weapons, and I feel like a fair few Eldar weapons could be just reskinned existing weapons.

https://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Eldar_Weaponry_(List)

Two-handed chainswords? We have Eviscerator. Force Swords? Psyker has those. Lasblasters? Lasguns. Axes? . . . Axes.

And they could theoretically be corsairs, not Craftworld Aeldari, which would give a lot more flexibility. Mix in 3 unique melee and ranged weapons and you’d have a coherent weaponset.

I’m not saying I believe this would happen, but I think the different weaponsets isn’t as overwhelming an issue as it seems at first glance.

As for Hadron - I mean, from a writing standpoint all you need to do is have her being like “Xeno studies have always interested me . . .” or “. . . Oh, the obscenities I am put through for this Warband!”

These characters exist to serve the story, and we already see story retcons.

problem is that fatshark will never do that anyway

cause they are the ones that made female characters look like men and the female clothing cosmetics the same as the male model rig, i don’t think they will ever do that, or sister of battle

The women not being feminine (enough) doesn’t preclude the inclusion of a Fem Class ?
