Blatant complaint post but I gotta yell it louder for the blokes in the back.
Darktide is literally the only 40K game I can think of where it’s JUST regular humans vs other regular humans. Yeah the power level of our rejects is ridiculous, but it’s nice to just have the regular plebs be the center of attention for once, and a big part of why I enjoy the game is seeing this part of the 40K universe explored. Adding these superhumans or xenos would 100% kill my enjoyment of it.
The fact that people keep asking for SoB, Eldar, Tau, Spess Mehreens, whatever, feels very tone-deaf to what the game is trying to do. This is at its core a game about normal-ass dudes trying their best, which is the cool part to me.
If I see one more “eldar when” post or “rejects could(n’t) kill space marines” video I’m gonna have an aneurysm. Let the damn game about human factions be a game about human factions.
Cringe AoE-slop meta is no longer a thing; the playerbase in difficulties way over their head can’t deal with it any more (they actually need a whole two braincells now). No more Purg, no more rumbler, no more boombringer, less PBB, less Desperado, etc. etc.
Again, Sisters do encompass multiple tiers of characters, not all of them are Living Saint level or even Canoness level.
Mechanics trumps all, and unless they’re planning on doing other Psykers (which Imo should happen), you don’t really have much that would really be that interesting overall, Sister introducing a Faith magic system would be really different from what we know in game as of yet.
Neither Repentia, nor Retributor, but rather something less used/rarer like how Skitarii Alpha Primus hadn’t been used in lore for quite a few editions.
Back on topic:
I agree, even though the Mobian offensive is just part of one system, it’s tiny on the grand scale, so I honestly cannot see Eldar getting involved (also remember their numbers are incredibly low, this campaign and it’s importance wouldn’t even register as a blip on their radar).
As for Space Marines, similar reasons, also if you want space marines, play space marine 2.
Sisters are a possibility but again, I don’t think it would be a good one, they’d just become too much of a power creep having a class with power armour and access to heavy weapons (imagine the brokenness of a heavy bolter or heavy plasma).
I personally think that the BEST way to implement a Sororitas Class is to have them be Sororitas Novitiates. They’re Sororitas who haven’t earned their Power Armour yet, to put it simply.
They’re more “malleable” than Sisters Repentia thematically and would thus provide Fatshark with a lot more creative freedom, which would be CRUCIAL if they’re going to make a Sororitas Class that’s sufficiently distinct from Zealots.
Fatshark could potentially do a set of Carapace Armour in the STYLE of Sororitas Power Armour as their Transcendant-Tier set of Penance Cosmetics, if GW signs off on it.
I agree with OP that we don’t need new OP classes that seem out of place among rejects and abhumans.
However I think there’d be a way to handle a SoB implementation. Just make them be a bit like Ogryns. You run around in power armor you can push horde around just by dodging, you can swing a big 2h power weapon around knocking stuff silly, and carry very heavy weapons like heavy bolter and heavy flamer, but with very limited ammunition. Specialty of the class besides it’s tankyness and CC would be anti-corruption stuff. I think it would be doable in principle without necessarily contributing to power creep.
All that said, like other threads on the forum suggests I think we need more maps for the normal rotation, a few more interesting enemies (enemy psykers again, a plaguebearer daemon monstrosity, more variation on the weapons carried by crushers, maulers, and ragers), and a weapon/talent balance overhaul.
I’d still go with Oblatia, so that the personalities are able to source from more than the Novitiates, but still make sense as them being without Power Armour.
Feel like Phosphor should stay as the “Admech” status same as Toxin for the Scum, but could see it either way, would prefer to have Sister be 100% set around the Faith stuff instead.
Ironhead Prospector styled Squat would be interesting to me. But if PoV issues make it too difficult to implement then I’m not mad that it won’t.
that was never the argument tho, we heard it from the mouths of fatshark themself, you can get away with making one outlier PoV to the “normal cast”, but having two vastly different PoVs is another challange entirely.
that being said, bardin is particulary small in comparison, something we wouldnt need to replicate in DT, (the cast of V2 is quite tall, salts being like what between 190cm-200cm and marcus around 188cm-192cm) if we assume the base human we play as in DT is around 162cm-175cm due to good ol malnutrion.
assuming bardin is 130cm~ ish that like a 70cm pov difference to salts while to the joe smoe reject it may just be 32cm difference barely more than a head smaller. probably could get away with it. (skitarii is already about a head taller than average tho that nestles in between the already established ogryn pov and normal pov)
