Sister Oblatia Class: F**th based

Seeing as there was a previous thread about a Sister that directly devolved due to the use of Generative AI, I wanted to remake one I had done before but more complete:

With keeping in mind that I’m no Game dev, so things that I say might be more difficult to implement than I’d think and that some choices are made in ignorance.

New mechanics

  • (Acts of) Faith: Introduce the mechanic from the Table Top and Dark Heresy
    • ‘Burn’ (Fate Point): trading Faith with corruption
  • Combi weaponry: Introduce multiple weapons that combine 2 ammo pools

Gameplay focus

  • DnD Paladin >< DnD Barbarian.
  • Divine magic.
  • Active use of resource or keeping them as stat buffs
  • More defensive, slower gameplay.
  • Heavy deliberate melee and ranged.
  • Support.

Branches

  • Close ranged tank
  • Support
  • Ranged tank

Introduction

Introducing the Mobian Domain Ordo Pronatus (Non-Militant order), “Daughters of Messelina”, like most Imperials from the Mobian worlds the local Sister Conclaves keep the Imperial Saint Messalina as one of their major figure, but like other people from the domain, they also aren’t knowledgeable on what Saint Messalina fought for, nor what they truly was (A Psyker)

As a minor ‘non-Militant’ Order the Daughter of Messalina do not have Repentia Squads or Mortifier and Anchorite Engine, instead they’re becoming Sisters Oblatia, considered dead to their Order, but in the manner of a Dwarf Slayer, seeking it, in service of the Emperor and the Imperium.

From this point they would then be treated as disposable agents, but their past training make them suitable to further training under the guiding hand of Hestia.

Forced into seclusion and near mindless worship of the Emperor let them manifest lesser miracles, miracles that the Emperor bestows to the ones that are to face his enemies.

Why not …

  • Repentia: No ranged weapons allowed; very restricted in weapons; quite close to what Zealots can do
  • Celestian: Higher ranked, too valued
  • Seraphim: Map issues and higher ranked
  • Hospitalier: Too much emphasis on healing

Personalities

Giving the class a ‘vague’ name would enable Fatshark and Matt Ward to spin different personalities toward different aspects of the Sister of Battle:

  • Hospitalier: Most caring and protective of the Sisters, even toward Psykers and Ogryn. Make it german accented to common trope of German sounding doctors (Maybe Moira Quirk[1])
  • Nuncia: Erudite Sisters, speaking closer to how Nobles do, do not seem to favour the peasants classes (All of them but the Arbites)
  • Mortifier: Ever pained, with voice barely louder than a rasp
  • Ex-Retributor: Missing her heavy armour and heavy weaponry

Tree

Going back to the ‘traditional’ tree style with the only unique point being the order of the exlusive nodes:

  • Aura → Blitz → Abilities and finishing with Keystones with Aura possibly having side nodes.

Faith

Resource similar to Peril on the Psyker, used to power Blitz, talents, weapons but also the Aura.

Aura

Base: 2 tiered Aura, with weakened continuous effects and effect tied to specific state of Faith level

  • Repent
    Constant: Increase melee attack stagger
Low Faith: Increase melee attack cleave and damage
  • Light of the Emperor
    Constant: Grant stagger resit
High Faith: Grant health damage resist
  • Pure Faith[3]
    Constant:
    High Faith:

Blitz

Like the Psyker, cost Faith, unlike the Psyker, instead of venting Peril, the Sister generate Faith.
With 2 different things that are new:
Burn: Sister are able to use their talents without Faith, but will generate Corruption[4]
Martyrdom: Generate more Faith per missing Wounds or health percentage (could be better tied to a talent ?)

  • Blessed Strike
Switch to your melee weapon, imbuing it with Faith making it glow, one next attack, increase the attack’s impact and damage
  • Spirit of Martyr
Work like the Warrior Priest’s ability, creating a shield around the player, or around one of its allies.
  • Purge the Unclean
Highlight an area on the ground, holding it increase the size, but make it cost more Faith, on release cause fire damage that deal increase stagger on Infested and Unyielding enemies.

Abilities[5]

Like usual, tied to Cooldown, could also have the option to use them faster at the cost of a wound

  • Leap of Faith: Movement ability highlight an area before leaping upon it and causing damage and stagger in an AoE
  • Banner: Plant a banner that buff allies and debuff enemies around it until it’s destroyed.
  • Catechism of Fire: Release a whirling firestorm that tagger and burn enemies while moving away from the player

Weapons

Shared:

  • Ranged:
    • Autoguns
    • Bolters
    • Boltpistol
    • Shotguns
    • (Flamer)[6]
  • Melee:
    • Chain Sword
    • Evicerator[7]
    • Chain Axe
    • Relic Sword[8]
    • Heavy Sword
    • Shock Maul
    • Crusher

New/exclusive

  • Ranged[9]
    • Condemnor Bolter: Bolter with special stance enabling the shooting of the crossbow
    • Combi-Plasma: Bolter with special stance enabling the shooting and reloading of the Plasma part
    • Combi-Flamer: Bolter with special stance enabling the shooting and reloading of the Flamer part
    • Stormbolter: Dual Bolter, special being a shield bash
  • Melee:

  1. X-Com\Dr. Vahlen ↩︎

  2. Supplemented by Faith ↩︎

  3. Have to change that one, will back fill it ↩︎

  4. Dark Heresy mechanic, where the Sister player can chose to burn a fate point for different effects, usually buffing the spell or giving a new effect ↩︎

  5. Weakpoint here, I don’t really have much idea for those ↩︎

  6. While iconic on both Zealot and Sister, I could understand them remaining unique to the Zealot due to it being their sole ranged exclusive ↩︎

  7. While currently exclusive on Zealot atm, feel like it would be alright if it is linked to both as the Zealot would still have the THammer ↩︎

  8. While currently exclusive on Zealot atm, feel like it would be alright if it is linked to both as the Zealot would still have the THammer ↩︎

  9. I went against Heavy weapons (Retributor Squads) due to them requiring special Power Armour, and also being difficult to balance, as well as some (not all, some would be good for the Ogryn, like the Heavy Bolters) ↩︎

This is more power creep Sororitas are one step above Arbites…

While it certainly can be a power creep, that is more so dependent on how they’re implemented in the game, and on the lore part, dependent on the individual Order and character.

Same way that both Grail Knight and Warrior Priests in Warhammer fantasy can be considered Power creep if we consider the table top and the lore, but if we instead consider the rpg, they’re barely power creep

And while they both started strong, and aren’t exactly weak rn, I don’t really think they’re the most power crept careers in VT2.

The fundamental problem with the Sister proposals is they’re too close to Zealot on a base level. The class fantasy is basically the same thing.

It’s the same problem with a ratling, or stormtrooper, or Navigator: you’re just selling a different version of something an existing class already does.

Yeah I feel like a lot of us suggested here could be achieved by giving zealot some shield and weapon options

But like that will ever happen, existing classes getting new weapons that will be the day.

Add Beastmen to that, too. They’re basically weaker Ogryn with higher intelligence.

very cool potential for weapons for sure. darktide extremely direly lacks weapons that aren’t just one handed swords, axes or maces

I would say that if it was Crusader, then yes. There is nothing that a Crusader could really introduce that isn’t Zealot + specific weapons.

Here I was avoiding that, by (re-)introducing the Faith system from Dark Heresy, introducing weapon types we don’t really have (Combi weapons are at closest similar to the ones the Arbites introduced with their special ammo), and aiming toward gearing to different gameplay bases.

Like unless we’re thinking massive upgrade to the Zealot, nothing here could really work.

That’s quite fair, sadly GW has mostly always focused on Swords and Maces, with Axes right behind.

There are some weapons that I would like to see but they’re most likely never gonna happen (Chain Flails), could see other Flail happen though on a base core with different weapon types being made to share some animations (Power, Shock, Force for example)

I would love to just see any polearm weapon.

It’s not very high on my list of weapons i want to see, but Fatshark is uniquely in the best position to create one that’s awesome, complex, and flavorful for the game.

Also the only FPS that even has a halberd and the only game i can think of where it’s not treated as a lame ax or spear is Vermintide 2 ikyk

I would love a Sister of Battle class, but I really don’t see how to differentiate it from Zealot. We even have SoB-style armor sets for the Zealot already. Granted, we have Hive Scum-style sets for Veteran, so I guess it wouldn’t be that odd, but I feel like it’s unlikely.

It’s a cool concept you got, though, I like it. A+ to people who come up with fleshed-out class ideas, it’s a hobby of mine as well (used to do that for VT2, damn that game could have had more cool characters outside of the Ubersreik Five).

I hope they do a fantasy game next (or not warhammer at all), with a separate cast, so that we get to see more/new stuff.

Like having the caster not be a human would be pretty cool as you could mix and match the different winds of magic (though if we consider that they would have 1 melee and 1 ranged per wind, we would need 16 weapons :skull:, maybe having the melee weapons not be wind specific and have the staves be ?)

If we’re talking Warhammer, a Skink Priest could potentially use multiple Winds, since sometimes their Slann masters will assume direct control over them and can cast their own magic through them like a conduit! Since Slann can use all Winds, you could use this to explain the switches. “The Slann gave it to me” kinda thing.

At this point even a healer (Hospitalier) would work, as long as they are unable to restore fully corrupted wounds (cuz then they’d replace med stimms and stations).
We have so many broken op stuff already and Skitarii release is just around the corner…so go big

I always repeat myself ad naseum, and here I go again; we already have the Crusader Armor set, so giving us Sword + Shield combo would complete the look for Zealot.

Not really, the full metal one is a retexturing of Pious Vorne’s armour (who is an actual Missionary Zealot; official model color scheme makes it look like leather armor, but her artwork makes it look more like metal) and the other ones are based off of various priest/missionary models.

Speaking of Pious Vorne, we need her Eviscerator/Flamer combiweapon.

I hate the giant manacles on that armor, it looks so cartoonish. If it had the flowing robe sleeves like the model I’d be using it a lot more.

Even if it’s technically not, it’s so close that the SoB could sue for copyright infringement. XD

It still open the way for “true” Sister looking stuff from being introduced and sold.

No more classes for a while after Skitarii please.

More weapons, maps (finish expeditions properly) and cosmetics for the first two DLC classes along with performance and bug fixes, and gameplay overhaul (fix the special spawn vomit).

This is my favourite version of a SoB-esque class request. Not overly complicated, Vermintide 2-esque in it’s design and has a clear similarity to Psyker with it’s resource that acts as a reference on how it would theoretically play.

The Combi weapons and Power → Faith powered weapons are fun gimmicks as well.

I think that the argument made against these sorts of classes with their “similarity” to Zealot is unfair as that exact argument works with Orgyn and Arbites, or Veteran and Hive Scum or Skitarius. While the Zealot definitely occupies the Repentia role (and should be pushed moreso into it in future), and also Ministorum Priest and Deathcult Assassin going from left to right respectively, they do very little with Faith only really utilising it in their central ability and “Until Death” Talent leaving the niche open.

Ministorium priest is ok cult assassin is the most acerate blade of the Emprah only one can change the battle. Hope we will never get one in game. Just bug fix, balance and new maps will be perfect. And please NO F**CKING GAME Mode. We don’t care.
