I respect your mistaken opinion.
Backing up your point, I’d say there are games out there still getting new content, technical upgrades, and tweaks to fit today’s market—even 15 years after launch. So many things have had to be added over time.
SWTOR is actually in one of its best moments right now, and honestly, that’s all thanks to the player base and listening developers.
Maybe more companies should take a good look at that and realize it’s totally possible for a game to have a long life
i done my own too , in steam comunity
i hope the machine god bless your holy circuits.
the onmisiah be preaced.
Like DT (2.5yrs in) and VT2 (7 years in)?
Of course, but it relies almost entirely on its amazing gameplay experience, and there hasn’t been much new content. The player base and mechanics have just stabilized. Basically, I just think there are reasons to make the product broader.
There’s been loads of new content. New weapons, new maps, new modes, new penances (a major overhaul followed by regular additions), new events on a monthly basis now, new crafting system, (aging) new talent tree system.
There’s absolutely no indication that content is slowing down or getting stagnant. With Havoc, a whole new mode aimed at a very vocal subset of the community (but built for a much wider group to participate in and earn the cosmetic rewards through), also came with 3 new weapons and a new map.
I think we’ll see either a new class (a pretty big undertaking, with 3 subclasses to balance, 3-6 voice actors with thousands of lines, cosmetics to probably make, etc.) or an augmented subclass system and new subclasses for the existing archetypes at some point.
In the last 2 quarterly updates (and the only major content updates are the quarterly updates promised in 01/2023), we got 2 new modes. And the 3 update before that brought us a much more interesting penance system with more cool cosmetics to work towards and a massively improved weapon system that essentially removed the need to endlessly grind for weapons. The game is broadening out.
I guess you read the same communities I do, and the number of posts on this topic is pretty high.
If the new content is so satisfying, what do you think is causing this recurring demand from the player base?
I’d really like us to consider that ‘updating’ isn’t the same as ‘expanding.’
I’ll read your response with interest—thanks.
Not as high as the number of people playing on average at any given moment of any given day…and that’s only on Steam. There will always be a vocal group who aren’t satisfied with XYZ. Many make it their whole purpose/persona. But, by the numbers, the game is growing and succeeding. As it should, because it’s singular. And I expect more and more to come, just like VT2.
I wouldn’t say that, it’s sustaining after big patches for about a month then the decline begins if they pumped out patches every two months maybe it would increase.
Maybe you’re right, and a few unhappy voices are making more noise than a large, silent majority—I agree with that logic.
Personally, I’m really enjoying the Darktide experience.
But I also agree that a universe as rich as WH40k allows for a greater level of depth and complexity
Average Steam player numbers are up YoY, and after year 1 we got Xbox players. And after year 2 we got PS5 players. No one knows how big the player base is, but just going by what we know (Steam numbers), it’s increasing. And common sense would say with the Xbox & PS5 players (who I see in almost every game), it’s actually grown quite a bit.
But is it? Was Average of about 10k last year now around 6k, All time link above, 1year link below
Warhammer 40,000: Darktide - Steam Charts
Those platform launches may have spiked the numbers at their launch but likely same trend as steam numbers in decline or sustained.
Yes it’s growing, by the Steam numbers, but even if it wasn’t (which again, it is), anyone who plays knows Xbox and PS5 players are a substantial portion of the player base.
As long as people keep playing and buying cosmetics, the game will keep getting updated. No one seems to be worried about VT2, which has half the Steam player base (but gets plenty of content) and no crossplay.
I don’t know how you could claim that, clearly by steam charts it is not, do you have another method for gathering data?
Actually compare the months of 2023 and 2024 and 2025 so far. There’s a growing core player base on Steam alone. Tourists come and go for the big updates, but the average play counts (based on every hour of every day) are consistently improving.
And again, that’s just Steam, which everyone knows isn’t the full picture (unlike with VT2).
Side by side Peaks (not averages you are correct) same period declining peaks. Declining while riding havoc high with october balance patch boost. May of last year had a long dry spell prior with major rework in that October.
Not growth sorry, last response cause if you can’t understand trends…
Your other consoles will follow same trend after injection of new players like launch
This May is also barely started by the end our average will steeply decline to be on par
The average player counts are right there on the page. The chart is peak players.
You are correct not a graph for averages here is mine from average data.
May is also not yet calculated because we are only 11 days in and average is steeply declining. Left red line is Darktide compared to VT2 Launch, Right red line is current DT and VT2 as of April… still not growth but stained with content patches.
This graph doesn’t make sense to me. Average Steam player counts throughout 2024 were better than 2023 and 2025 looks on track to be better than 2024. Why? Game keeps improving, content keeps increasing, issues keep getting resolved, and under all that is an incredible game.
2024 started still riding the downward slope with high numbers and ended with the spike were riding down now. The big peaks are major content drops and then the players trickle off after consuming the biggest being launch… and terrible dry spell after.
Numbers inputted into excel from below image after normal peak graphs in steam charts, been tracking for a while. Our current trajectory is downward at same rise rate of last month… but including some of the high numbers from last 30 days
Mortis and Ogryn were not as big of a boost as Havoc or prior patch… Vet w AdMech or Zealot with Solo maybe bigger hits especially new weapons…
