Possibly.
We already have careers that play practically the exact same as others, e.g Slayer vs Zealot.
Just seems problematic when 2 similar careers belong to the same character.
I mean, either tabletop or RPG we should not really follow the rules. But the lore. If lorewise GK never use ranged weaponry because it’s not honourable, I don’t see any issue to forbid it.
Now, if you look at the warpriest, nothing, in the lore, forbid them to use others weapons than hammer. They use “mostly” hammer because it’s their signature weapons, but there’s no sentence that say “they ONLY hammers, or else they can’t be warpriest” anywhere in the lore related texts (from tabletop or from rpg) and this is something I checked just for you in case of I missed something.
A limitation to a single melee weapon would not bring a very interesting gameplay to be honest. I’m all for bringing limitation where it makes sense though.
It’s okay, they don’t really overlap, the issue is an issue of balance here (even if it’s not unplayable by any means). Engineer is still pretty much a non support ranged version of RV which is more supportive.
Issue being that currently, engineer does not make enough damage compared to the skill needed and the lack of escape, making RV a better choice. Having access to drakefire weapons is also another big difference.
For the second option though, I guess, given that the careers are very successful and did help the community grow more (with many returning players), that we will probably see another round of careers later on (which would means runesmith could still see the light).
I support the idea of rebalancing old ones before though.
They also kind of hinted at that possibility in their anniversary stream.
Yeah things like FK and Spear aren’t exactly fun imo.
Removing ranged weaponry from a career but buffing the hell out of melee is alright though.
Engi and RV both kinda fulfil the same ranged role, one just does it better and offers much more.
RV also turns non ranged careers into semi-ranged careers (assuming enough specials) which probably skews pick rates.
e.g For DWONS, “Why pick Huntsman or Bounty Hunter when I could play RV and turn my allies into semi-ranged careers?”
kinda makes sense why careers like RV and WHC have such a high pickrate in that kind of content
But Engineer vs RV is a whole other topic.
You are cherry-picking here man.
If GK isnt using ranged weapons because its not honorable, then WPoS isnt using anything else than hammers because they are fanatics. Its exactly the same.
And its not “mostly”, its always. There is no official medium that ever depicted a WPoS using something else than a hammer. The only source you have against that is make-believe RPG where, again, many things are technically possible.
You may want to look up the army books. They state that a WPoS has a hammer as default weapon and can switch that out with other hammer variations. Not other weapons. If that is not proof enough of this restriction, then this discussion here is a circus.
But alright, lets go with WPoS being able to use Saltys other melee weapons.
What do you think the WPoS should be able to do? They are able to use magic and even the miracles of Sigmar come from the warp. So if he is able to do it, Fatshark needs to create a whole new magical arsenal only for one career. How much should he be able to do here? Because if WPoS is only getting two new weapons with him, then one needs to be a hammer for melee and the other a book for ranged. Even when you make two books and the Ulti a hammer its still not really enough. Here comes my other statement into play i did in an earlier comment, that Fatshark would need to make a full fletched out career to make a proper WPoS.
If he is not getting magic and isnt using ranged weapons and maybe gets two hammers as dlc weapons, then he certainly has to get some strong passives and a really strong ultimate. Sounds familiar.
Or do we also give WPoS access to ranged weapons? I can already imagining a WPoS with a Flachion and a Repeater pistol. What exactly would make him a Warrior Priest then?
Unless someone is ready to throw down some quote I really can’t tell if there really any restriction
Bretonnian Codex (8th edition)
THE RULES OF HONOUR
Apart from the commandments of chivalry, there are
certain traditional 'rules of honour' which are adhered
to and respected by all Knights. These rules are an
important part of the code of chivalry. They date back
to the very origins of knighthood in Bretonnia and
mark out Bretonnian Knights as distinct from those of
any other realm.
The most important rules of honour are summarised
below:
- A Knight may only fight hand-to-hand, he may
not use a missile weapon.
- A Knight shall always accept a challenge to
personal combat.
- A Knight shall not draw sword against a fellow
- Bretonnian Knight except in a trial by combat or
in a tournament.
- A Knight shall not allow himself to be captured.
- A Knight shall not retreat from the enemy.

I want to go to bed so if someone can do it for the Warrior Priest (maybe do it for all of the Warrior Priest)
Empire 7th edition has the hammer restrictions because its specificly WPoS. In 8th edition they just cramped up every Warrior Priest into one. I guess it was enough for Games Workshop to just show on the miniatures and official depictings what the different Warrior Priests would use and thought people would understand, but that is obviously not the case.
No. Every miniatur and every depiction ever of the WPoS with a hammer obviously means that they use every weapon available.
I wouldn’t mind seeing a Zealot rework tbh
To actually make him feel like a flagellant, high risk/reward career.
Could go full Darkest Dungeon and turn him into a deaths door bleed career for all I care.
Hammers here and hammers there, whatever happened to the rule of cool?
Gameplay>rule of cool>>>>>lore (IMO).
We even have an assassin (shade) that can run around with a big ass 2 handed sword, giving a warrior priest a flail doesn’t seem very far fetched to me.
there’s a massive difference between a Warrior Priest pulling out an axe instead of a hammer vs a Slayer pulling out a flamethrower
You’re acting like stretching the lore is a boolean function rather than something on a scale. Vermintide already goes outside the lore in various aspects but not so outside it that it becomes ridiculous
A Grail Knight shouldn’t be running around with imperial shields, or a dinky lil mace+sword but he’s allowed to anyway, which is fine. However if he pulled out a longbow that’d go beyond what could be considered acceptable.
Shades actually are known for using 2 handed blades.
Well… In “Mordheim: City Of The Damned” the Warrior Priest can equip a heavy Flail (two-handed) as well. It looks quite awesome and he has a unique skin for the flail (being a skull on a chain of course). I would love to have that in Vermintide 2.
Proficiencies for melee weapons are:
Flail, Mace, Hammer, Sigmarite Great Hammer, Sigmarite Warhammer, Great Flail, Great Hammer
So I don’t see any issue with “limited weapon choices”.
You just answered yourself, it’s on a scale and I don’t think giving salty wp is something bad. I just have a lower threshold than you regarding lore accuracy.
In my mind this is a game foremost and lore should not come before fun, even if that sacrifices some lore.
I mean for f*cks sake, in doom eternal you are a literal god but for the sake of gameplay the slayer is severely nerfed in order to make the gameplay interesting.
This is my opinion and you are welcome to argue it, I don’t really see the point though since this is a purely subjective topic so no one is right or wrong.
?? I’m agreeing with you on that
Mb lol, might have missquoted you
Anyway, if Fatshark going to give a Warrior Priest of Sigmar to Slatz. They better make sure make him has more muscles.
I’d love to see a Great Flail on the class. It was a signature weapon irl of the Hussites, a Bohemian religious movement - and the historical figure who founded it (Jan Huss) literally has a major Warrior Priest partially named for him, Luthor Huss.
In Warhammer, they sometimes even use heavy flails with two heads, to signify the Twin-Tailed Comet (and light both heads on fire!). Mutli-headed flails are known to appear in history, too. It could be a really neat weapon, I think. Could call it a Comet Flail!
The real reason the basement of the Keep is under construction is Saltzpyre’s gym!
This two-handed flail is bo-o-otiful. Only instead of a human skull in cage, I would be glad to see a trophy skull (in cage) of some monster - from ork or elf.
It would also be nice to add, for example, a Bretonnian flail (or flail + shield) for Kruber.
I never heard of another idea for Kruber and I’m a huge Kruber fan. As soon as I got wind of a new Kruber career coming (announced at the end of 2019), I followed everything.
As far as I’m aware, there was no official word or stream on Kruber having a different career. There were plenty of unofficial fan speculations. No one really knew what Kruber’s next career would be (except FS) until the GK was announced.
Sorry for late response. It’s tax season so I’m getting swamped at work.
