I agree somewhat. I agree that it is stupid from a narrative standpoint because our characters, especially Havoc 40 characters, are extremely powerful so it makes absolutely zero sense that after completeting hundreds of missions now all of a sudden we need training. Wasnt that the purpose of leveling to 30, anyway? To prove ourselves? What about the veteran class? They already have training. What if your character just never does these trials at all? They will still be able to deploy on the most difficult missions on Atoma, meaning the “training” is completely redundant. This excuse feels like something that should have been used at launch, not 2 years in. It really makes no sense
I can’t even give a flying of a fck about the lore reasons for this gamemode, but this here is the biggest god damn offender.
"Here have more of these useless crafting mats you guys do fck all with. And on top for free have some lore about these rando characters that you don’t care about."
Couldn’t even give us reskinned armor or weapon cosmetics for this half baked gamemode like they did with Havoc?
Gee, thanks.
Exactly! A far greater offense.
Who cares? It doesn’t matter if it’s in a vision or not, what matters is if it’s fun
theres simply not enough story to function for more than ~20 hours. i really cant imagine anyone with more than that cares for anything aside from the gameplay and maybe the rotating dialogue lines.
What is this supposed to mean
who exactly in the entire playerbase except you is bothered about mortis trials taking place in sephoni’s mind
its a fun mode but wouldnt work on the planet as a horde based mode similar to fortunes of war
I see it as Advanced Training with friends and I’m okay with that.
Are hounds good eating?
Were you saying the same about Havoc?
Besides, the OP makes the point that this could have been done using other aspects of the game. This mode could have had us delving deep under the Hive. Or attacking a polar outpost with waves of enemies attempting to take it. My personal favorite would have had us fighting various custom Combat Servitors (on the ship) designed to mimic enemy types.
The point of the OP is the concept sucks.
Lets say I decide that I’m gonna introduce Chaos Wastes to the game, but instead of playing on the planet, you’re going to be doing it as toys in a childs game, in their room aboard the ship. Some might say, “hey, why don’t we instead fight for real on the planet?”. Is this making sense yet or should I get the crayons?
But hey like you said.
I guess we’ll see how popular it is after a few weeks.
Man, you HAVE to be kidding. Ascension Riser??? You’re using that as a positive??? Homie, I’ve been here from the start, what are you talking about? Shes an atrocious character! Paper thin! Used for comedic banter with the the bloody barber!
The most hilarious thing to me about this mode is how they mentioned theirs lore attatched to it as if we care at all whatsoever. I dont play games like this or borderlands for the story I play them for the gameplay loop and min maxing characters. This game mode will die just like havoc did and fast at that. Aint no way all these casual players are going to stop grinding resources and mastery things to go play a different game mode when theyre trying to get better and climb the difficulty ranks I just cant see it. Dont get me wrong I know some people just want a horde game mode but i dont see myself playing it. I wanted new weapons and new maps but clearly fatshark doesnt care about what we want. I guess we get to wait another 3 months for any of that. Its no wonder people dont want to play this game. I cant wait for bl4 to come cuz im sick of waiting forever and ever for more content just to get drip fed content its like were half dead on life support trying to play this game.
Yeah really speaking only for yourself here. My and my whole group are hyped for it and dont care at all its through Sefoni and honestly nobody ive talked to seems to care either.
I am not SPECIFICALLY upset that this mode isn’t canon - it’s the idea they haven’t provided any actual good content for god knows how long. They released havoc with a game breaking glitch that took them god knows how long to fix. People have been practically BEGGING for new maps and what do we get? A new “mode” that was recycled from another game and done in the most brain numbing way possible - “talk to an npc and be teleported even though we are fighting on a massive hive planet with literal millions of enemies”
seems like one of those “head-canon” things i usually solve through mods in games like fallout, where i just skip the unlikeable part if the rest is good.
now, fallout 76 is by no means a real fallout to me (1/2/new vegas) BUT the world was build well enough to be worthy of exploration.
so if i can “filter” out all the silly stuff at the time to play through the whole game and pick my fallout-ish pieces, i guess i’m good ignoring the simulation stuff IF (will see tomorrow) it sticks out like a sore thumb.
then again, after the umpth voiceline in repeat at the start of a mission, i dont even listen to it anyways, so i dont see much irritation there either.
lore time is baldermort or scholars lore when painting my mcfarlane figures or fighting my tinnitus to sleep.
darktide is visual enjoyment of the 40k world rather than story wise.
personal preference though n’all
At this point I am just extremely disappointed they couldn’t even try to provide a little effort into an actually working concept that fits into the narrative of this specific game. It’s the exact same sh*t as them having the entire framework drawn out for them from V2 - instead of taking what they learned and building UPON it, they try to reinvent the wheel, and fail.
They have so many cool concepts and stories they could tie into a mode like this that involves journeying deeper into the hive city, finding secret areas and soooo much more. It’s actually baffling to me at how little they take advantage of such a rich and diverse universe.
Not a random character though. We’re not going into the mindscape of someone we’ve never met, or some arbitrary character (They’re the ship’s psyker, who else would we go into the mindscape of? Brunts?).
And whether their character sucks or not, they’re still important. They have speaking lines, other characters talk about them, their role on the mourningstar is significant and clearly defined (Which is more than characters like Melk have. Hell, poor Brunt doesn’t even have any speaking lines).
A bad character? Sure. A random character? No.
Yes, I find it very underwhelming myself.
I don’t necessarily mind that it is in a psychic dreamworld, as some have mentioned Back to Ubersriek, but not only was that used to bring 3 really good maps into the sequel but it also served an in-universe purpose. The Pactsworn were trying to uncover the location of a dwarven artifact and Olesya and the U5 head them off by finding it first. The only reason there are even enemies in the visions at all is because the Pactsworn mages are interfering with Olesya’s weave from a distance. So a psychic dreamworld COULD be done in a meaningful way actually taking the fight to the enemy still. Buuuut instead we’re just using it as a VR simulator. They even have that hidden shot in the teaser of a team standing in front of a HUGE portal giving the impression we’re about to embark on deeds of grave import to the war effort, but no, it’s just the equivalent of playing laser-tag back at the base. Really lame.
Interesting idea; terrible narrative justification.
This is what some thought initially but it has been clarified specifically that it is NOT meant to be Chaos-Wastes-in-Spaaaace. So I would assume it’s supposed to be more like Fortunes of War + boons (in Spaaaace). I guess we’ll see exactly how it plays out when it launches.
I just want the content to be fun, the story behind darktide is basically non-existant anyway, I actually wish we got more potentially lore breaking content, or anything that makes the game interesting beyond “random penal conscript #1 vs nurgle”
