Regarding what in the title, Mortis Trials maps definitely a step towards making a Chaos wastes like game mode. Alas, Mortis Trials lacks map variety currently, but I do see Fatshark reviewing feedback the very least before attempting to build a Chaos wastes like game mode. The indulgences (both Minoris and Majoris) may be added to Darktides version of C.W’s (Chaos wastes) in some manner, or at least after ironing out whatever issues currently exist.
As for Mortis Trials, if more maps won’t suffice, thoughts on a new enemy that’s a legitimate threat that would require 8-24 players to contend with? Warhammer 40k lore itself has no shortage of nasties that COULD exist on Atoma or Sefoni/Morrin/Zola may have witnessed that could be added to the Mortis Trials simulation. If the new enemy suggestion did get added, could see this happening:
I hope Mortis Trials expands in the near future. A bit harder earlier in a run, a much harder high-end difficulty, more build space, an infinite mode and a shorter mode. And I hope there are more levels. They don’t really need to be randomly generated imo, so long as the obstacles/goals are still randomized, but they could have larger levels with randomized doors (like Archivum) that randomly gate different areas.
But Mortis Trials has made me realize I really don’t want a straight port of Chaos Wastes with a Darktide coat of paint. I don’t really want crazy wacky builds. Or crazy magic modifiers.
Instead, I really want a mode with meaningful-but-balanced decisions and a strong sense of progression. And I want it to be on-theme.
It’d be super cool to play as a Wormwood agent or low-level soldier, scrounging for resources behind enemy lines and having to make build decisions based on found weapons. There’s so much potential for cool stuff that happens largely within the systems we have already. Randomly generated levels would be especially amazing in the context of a slower, more deliberate and directional (as in not requiring a ton of kiting or backtracking) Darktide…maybe one where hordes weren’t such a constant element.
