Everyone who played Vermintide and tried the chaos wastes mode knows how good it is, in short, it’s a “rogue-lite” mode where you go in with all your talents, and the basic version of your equipped weapons (no blessings or traits, and lowest power level possible), you can build on that by spending the mode’s currency (obtained in the run itself) to obtain unique talents, or to upgrade your weapons.
It is extremely fun and replayable, and I really wanna go back to vermintide for it, but I got real bad at the game due to how different the combat feels and don’t have enough time to retrain.
I think the mode will be a perfect fit for darktide, especially in the map design department, since most maps in darktide feel really similar to others.
TLDR; Chaos wastes is a great casual mode, and darktide map design could make it an even better mode in darktide than in vermintide.
It would be very cool, but Fatshark is not here, and @FatsharkKitefin has checked out already and is doing less than the bare minimum, so sadly Fatshark Devs are doing what they do with no real care for what the community wants, despite what taking care of the community can do for a game. No Man’s Sky is a great example of this
There are a lot of similarities between the two, but I don’t think Mortis Trials means something else that borrows from Chaos Wastes couldn’t come down the pike.
If anything, FS have demonstrated that they’re pretty-well committed to building off of what they’ve laid down as a foundation. I think all the level tweaks/expansions we’ve seen show that, and of course Havoc & Mortis Trials do too. And there are loads of possibilities for other game modes that build off the core experience.
Mortis Trials reminds me a lot of Remnant 2’s Boss Rush Mode; they’re both spiritual successors to quite popular modes in each’s preceding game…and I think they both kinda miss the mark. By condensing the gameplay loop, they both kinda cut out the parts of the roguelike loop I liked most in Chaos Wastes & Survival mode (from Remnant 1).
I think it’s definitely possible FS could make something interesting out of what they didn’t bring to Mortis Trials from Chaos Wastes: level traversal (regular, maybe more varied, gameplay), some level of narrative/decision-making (like CW) and a weapon upgrade/trading system. More grounded than CW or Mortis Trials, more methodical. Could be totally rad. And with solo mode? Shoooo.
Ultimately, these are things that would increase retention. And they’re on the scale of Mortis Trials or Havoc, I’d reckon.
Yeah…just going to take another three years or so…and then they go on vacation for half year until the Game is back to its ~3k playercount like some niche-RTS Game…and then takes maybe another year (probably two) for it to actually have a bit of content and not be riddled with bugs.
