Mods to make base game

A small list of mods on Nexus that are so good it’s a wonder they aren’t base game features. I’m not gonna include stuff like Creature Spawner, as that doesn’t feel “vanilla” enough to include.

  • Alternate Grenade Icons - Shows a separate icon for non-grenade blitzes (Blades of Zeal, Big Friendly Rock, Assail), and blitzes without charges at all (Brain Burst, Smite)
  • Archivum Messelina - Filter penances, search for specific penances, claim all available penances.
  • Chat Block - It’s already in VT2. Not that big of a stretch to put it in DT.
  • Crosshair HUD - With how much info is shoved into the corners of the screen, I think something like this would be quite useful. At the very least, allow players to display coherency, grenades, ammo, and ability cooldown on the crosshair - that’s what I do!
  • Direct to Hadron - Access crafting menu directly from inventory.
  • For the Emperor - Better tagging interactions and comwheel. Adds Yes/No/Help! commands to comwheel (being able to call for help on our own would be so useful).
  • Full Auto - Accessibility option - allow players to enable a setting that makes semi-automatic weapons fully automatic. Prevent carpal tunnel.
  • Hub Hotkeys - Saves running around the Mourningstar. Once again, VT2 has this feature.
  • Inspect from Social - Allows players to check out their party members’ loadouts without having to be in the same Mourningstar instance.
  • Loadout Monitor - At the very least, I think players should be able to quickly see which blitz/aura/active their teammates are running ingame whilst holding tab.
  • My Favorites - Mark items that you don’t want to accidentally sell.
  • Numeric UI - See exact teammate health/toughness/ammo numbers, as well as active ability cooldown timer.
  • Ration Pack - Display uses left for Ammo Crates, and whether Field Improvisation is active on them or not.
  • Reveal Blessings - Probably coming with the crafting update, but being able to see which blessings we’re missing and what they do will be enormously helpful.
  • Show CJK Glyphs - Prevents Chinese, Japanese, or Korean letters from showing up as ugly, unreadable boxes.
  • Show Remaining Dodges - Adds a second bar like the Stamina bar to the UI, displaying dodges remaining. Turns red when dodges go negative.
  • Talent Tree UX Improvements - Switch mutually exclusive talents and refund all talent points below the one you want to remove without having to unallocate each one individually.

I don’t wanna call this a ‘Grudge’ but I do think it’s a really good piece of feedback and good QoL compendium.

I would actually say you could make the argument to add the creature spawner to the list. Plenty of games like Street Fighter, For Honor, or Crypt of the Necrodancer have training rooms where you can fight against the AI. Darktide with all its different build options debatably needs it more than most games. Or at the very least let us do private matches by ourselves.

I feel like mentioning to any who don’t know that this mod allows you to access the crafting interface and anything else from inside the training area, making it far easier to test builds.

You could call it a grudge on the stretch that these are really useful QoL features that drastically improve the game experience and Fatshark’s refusal to add the more obvious of these is dumb and stupid and grudge-worthy.

A more concise way to say it is “there are multiple problems with the game that can be fixed with mods”. Most of these mods just streamline menuing and getting to the game proper, which has likely saved hours overall for my experience.

If this doesn’t end up as a grudge, which I wouldn’t be upset about tbh, I’ll go ahead and tag @FatsharkStrawHat, see what she thinks.

Special mention to the mod Loadout Config (no nexus link, only on the darktide modders discord) for helping me test out ideas without having to dump the resources on making a weapon.

Hm.

Maybe someone should start a QoL feature compendium. The Book is getting a lot of stuff that’s not ‘this thing is really bad’ but instead ‘this would be nice to have’ and trimming the fat would be helpful.

I nominate @Khorne_Dawg.

I would love to have a separate thing for QoL wants / adds :eyes:
