Mods that should be base game (?)

basically as title, what mods would you want to be base game? imo im mainly wanting the small immersive/qol stuff, for example:

  1. Visible Equipment, small functional impact, but great for immersion and just general drip, ive never liked games that just have you shove weapons you arent using up your bum, especially since you only have 2 weapons in this game, and not like 20 different ones
  2. Name It, also QOL and drip, its incredibly confusing to know which weapon is which when they all have the same name, like if i wanted a separate weapon for each mk, thatd be painful without naming
  3. Backstab Color, simple, its a tiny change, and its just hard to tell when you are/arent getting backstabs since there is literally no indication (other than if talents proc)
  4. Inventory Hider, super simple, and nearly every game with cosmetics has an option to hide hud/inventory to allow for better screenshots, even the discord has a driptide channel, why is this not already ingame?

thats all of my ideas, but yall free to suggest other stuff too

Hall teleportation function

In no particular order:

  • All 3 Guarantee X mods, for weapon swap, ability activation, and special action
  • Multi Bind
  • Talent Refund Below
  • Recolor Boss Health Bars
  • Chat Block

I had included a dodge tracker as well until relatively recently, but thankfully that’s no longer an issue.

I have a number of additional mods above and beyond these that have proven to be very useful, but none of them, I feel, are the kind of thing that should be base game. Base game additions should be very specific solves for particular UI/UX issues that hamper the core experience. There’s not many of those really left these days, so the list of things that should be base game additions are not very extensive IMO.

That said, there’s also some additional mods that everyone who’s dedicated to the game should also have, but are not the kind of thing fitting to be baselined into the UI. Again, in no particular order:

  • Inspect From Party Finder
  • Direct To Hadron
  • Numeric UI
  • Quick Level Mastery

custom ui with the option for 5%size 10%opacity and every element being able to either placed freely or turned off.

scoreboard

solo
true level
whoareyou so you can blocklist after they logged out via steam

None. Most of the most heavily used “mods” are just cheats, or to enforce toxicity, harassment and abuse (scoreboard, truelelvel)

Honestly, in my view, everything else is purely optional but THIS is not. This desperately needs to be base game functionality.

i dont think you know what any of the heavily used mods are if you think theyre all cheats, and how does scoreboard and truelevel do either of those things? i use both personally because i want to see my own level/stats, i think you just ran into toxic ppl and assumed thats everyone

You can see the unique DLs on Nexus, and damn near every every vid posted on Reddit or even here for the cheaty mods @Martak7 was referring to.

While I don’t want to paint every mod, mod user and author with the same brush given I’m a mod user and author too, people have normalized cheating in this game for years now and it’s just sad.

There are quite a few QoL and TRUE accessibility mods that I’d love to see as base so as to not leave people out in the cold, some may start blowing the Lua mem budget and IDK if consoles can spare much to increase it.

The mods I think would be good to implement as base game features in some way, in no particular order:

Numeric UI, Chat Block (i.e. automatically put up block when typing), Scoreboard, Player Outlines. The fact the 1st and 2nd aren’t base game is mindblowing to me, why are we removing basic shiz that Vermintide already solved?

Consoles is the likely answer.

i genuinely think game design might play a role in the decision to remove autoblock when chatting.

in vt2, there’s a few legitimate reasons to type ingame for strategic reasons, like “does someone know grims here” or “do we want 2nd grim” or “come carry tome” or “can i have that purple pot” or “heal me please i have nb”, “sorry the rat ran behind you” after ff, “come through basement” to take a path on an event, etc
in darktide, scriptures are a meme, grimoires are a meme, co-op mechanics have largely been streamlined and made less significant, heals are at large less important cause of how wounds and toughness work and heal stimms werent even in at launch, no ff to apologize for, events streamlined etc.

i’m not saying there shouldn’t be autoblock when chatting. but i can sort of see what their thought process was. people often only type to flame in darktide and they didnt wanna encourage that. i know i have seen people die while typing angry sentences many times

it’s also just a bit of a modern multiplayer game thing, devs want to discourage chatting to discourage toxicity in general. look at kf3, it didn’t even have text chat for years

this i agree but only if it is shown to yourself, just like in vt2

indeed
i don’t wanna do the meme, but game actually unplayable without those not ironically

praise @Gideon404

Oh man it pays to unhide replies for the lol sometimes.

Tell me oh great and wise disingenuous one jr. of the lake, where does the rest of the cheaty mod user’s team fit into your meme? Oh right they don’t matter. Someone else repeated it recently on Reddit IIRC: one person cheats, the whole team cheats. But hey, as long as the cheater consents…

-FS: “We don’t give a crap one way or the other, you guys figure it out”

-cheaty mod enthusiasts “See ? FS Approves!”

Hear, hear!

What’s this though?

Interesting counterpoint, though I sincerely hope this is not the case; also the logic is somewhat torpedoed by voice chat being a far more abusable mode of communication.

i was thinking more that, from their perspective why would they let you autoblock if the only (or atleast very overrepresented) thing anyone ever realistically wants to type in chat is abuse? so might as well not implement it so people do that less.
voice chat is abusable sure but i think it would exist outside of this logic entirely. people are gonna talk smack but they at least won’t grief the mission to do so
