yes but sadly i guess it will never be a thing
people unlocking all premium cosmetics where other players can see etc. xD
would be the definitive version, just like it was for VT2
not ironically modded realm with possibly P2P connection, would make the game also alive forever, in case servers would be shut down. something similar about #StopKillingGames where live service games do not provide online functionalities once the game servers shut down.
I would want it just to have a version of the game balanced to have less enemies at once and weaker players.
The trend of just filling levels with audio and visual noise to compensate for the mass killing potential some builds have (combined with the quirky technical issues that can flare up mid combat) is not great. It feels insane that I’m not allowed to have the game I bought back closer to when it left Early Access, because everything has to be run like a F2P live service.
There are monetization models that are less vulnerable to modding, and a robust modding community doesn’t automatically make a game impossible to monetize. Payday 2 is Vermintide levels of moddable, and that game doesn’t even have a modded realm. And no one would ever acuse THAT game of being unmonetizable lol. It has hundreds of dollars worth of DLC, including cosmetic DLC. It also has a larger playerbase than Darktide.
I don’t actually really understand Darktide’s monetization model. Do they really make enough money off cosmetics? It kinda feels like they must not, given the lack of content and middling playerbase. I never thought I’d say this, but I actually yearn for the Payday 2 content model where they just shamelessly milk their players - at least then you’re constantly getting new maps and weapons and stuff.
I also hope that there’s an end of support plan for these games Amelia. I would hate to see them die.
it’s partly driven by tencent owning a large chunk of the company and being tencent (a cinese finance company cosplaying as a gaming corp) is only able to understand a very narrow way towards profit. remember that over there the gaming market is essentially ALL mobile- it’s kind of an embarassing place.
