Mission system has to go

So I’ve aligned about 100h+ hours in both betas.

And I’m met with the same lame mission system in release…
Let me pick my mission and difficulty. Please.

yes please

I really thought there would be a level selection at launch and the rotation was just for the beta so they could test those levels evenly.

For a full launch, that being a missing feature is dumb. But also 3 of the 4 shop features still aren’t done? After how many delays? Jesus.

it’s actually inexcusable that people thought it’d be a good idea to not let players choose what levels they want to play at what difficulty.

So Iam not just blind?

We are not allowed to choose the mission we want to play? We have to choose from the limited pool that gives us one or two maps per difficulty?

Who thought this is a great Idea? What exactly is the point? Its just terrible. It will take forever to check out the new maps. I played three hours today and saw ONE new map.

I swear. The equipment system in DT is screwed up, but the map stinginess is just absurd. The Launch news showed us a bunch of new maps, but apparently, they are just carrots that get held in front of a donkeys face.

Yeah. Idk if there are even new levels. I feel like there are a total of 6 levels that I’ve been playing since the beta. How many total levels even are there? I understand wanting to have missions so that quickplay lobbies are faster, but there should be an option to choose the level to not be caught in the same rotation forever.

They’re trying to create an illusion that the game is somehow similar to Deep Rock Galactic. In that game the zones rotate and there is randomization due to procedural generation.

But it’s literally pointless in this game because the levels are always the same and nothing really changes at all. They tried to make it seem like it would be randomized somehow like DRG is but all it ends up being is a randomized lockout of certain missions currently in the game.

It’s stupid and absolutely not at all what they claimed that it would end up being like.

So if I want to play T5, I can’t?
If I hit quickplay T5, can I play any map?

Yeah 12 missions avaliable at a time across 5 difficulties, and however many modifiers there are on top of that. What? At least freaking triple that number until you work out a fix. Waited 3 hours for a single mission to appear with grims for a quest (that wasn’t Damnation with extra hordes, I like my hair its current color thank you).

live service bullcr*p, to make you play more while waiting, bc you want something specific (condition, map, book)

tbh this does the opposite for me. if I only need grims for completing the weekly contracts for example, and there’s no map with grimoirs, I don’t play few others til the rotation offers one, I just quit and check back after an hour or sg.

I agree with this. My friends and I have our favorites in VT2. Screaming Bell and Righteous Stand… must have done those maps 100 times by now. I’m sure if it was similar to this, there would be night where we’d login and see Skittergate/Dark Omens and just say yeah, see you tomorrow.

It’s like they looked at the Crime Hub on Payday 2 and thought ‘‘hey this is really good, lets do it like this’’. Not realising that in Payday 2 you can pick the mission, difficulty and modifiers. I’m not sure what possessed them during development into thinking this was a good idea.

Yah not a fan of this mission system.

I feel as though the mission map was also used to hide how few missions there are.

Im at 60 hours of playtime, ive played every level except two they added yesterday. I dont know a single mission by its name. I dont know exactly how many missions there are even, my rough estimate is 8-12 now that 3 were added.

But because we only have 12 missions on the map, and only 3-4 are unique levels, i cant see them all at once to count how many there are. Secondary objectives suck, the map’s random and tedious, weekly challenges that work in tandem with secondaries or the map is just so annoying.

I think this is a very good point.
In Vermintide 2, i can name every mission, i can remember key moments in the level. Their level designs are memorable regardless of if the level itself is actually fun.

Darktide? What’s memorable about the levels? I don’t know their names. They all look like miscellaneous dark industrial area no. 135. Nothing stands out at all.

What? You dont recall mission HL17-36?

Totally agree.
It is terrible to have only a couple missions in the difficulty that you want. I have seen the same map repeated twice as the only option to play

For real though, I’ve learned what the missions are via their picture and the type of mission it is. They could be completely nameless for all i care at this point.

While it is cool they reuse some areas in the missions that occur within the same zone to bring some level of familiarity, thats all it is. Its all familiar but i cant describe anything about any mission except events like scanning or “hacking”. Transitioning from one area to another is just walking around tunnels and subway stations in Fallout 3.

LOL regarding the mission names. I can’t think of a single mission or level name, or map name…

Speaking of which…

Can someone actually explain to me how the feth the missions/zones are organized? I played the beta for nearly 30 hours and I keep hearing things that confuse me.

There are supposed to be 5 “zones.” What are the zones? Are the zones just “maps” that get reused in different ways for different missions? Or is every mission a specific / unique thing and the “zone” is just like the texture set that is used (i.e. purely aesthetic and not a physical map)? Does “mission” just mean “primary objective” (like assassination) which can occur in different zones (that are maybe unique maps?)

I’m honestly confused.

And I can’t name a single zone/mission/map/whatever if I was pressed to.
