Low quality assets

Issue Type (Required):

Performance

Issue Description (Required):

For about a year now I have had this issue. The game takes several seconds to load high quality assets on each model (characters, weapons, enemies). When this combines on multiple models in a mission, the game looks like a PSP game.
I tried to reinstall the game to several drives due to suspicion of a drive issue, did not help (all SSDs).
Tried to disable mesh streaming.
Tried to limit worker threads.
Tried to use default FOV.
Tried to put mesh quality to maximum.
Have this happening on a second GPU (originally had a 4080).

My setup:
Ryzen 5800X3D, 4090, 32 GB RAM G.Skill 3600 MHz

Nothing helps. Please help.

[PC] Do You Use Mods? (Optional):

No, I don’t use mods (screenshot is with mods but during reinstalling I did not use them again, did not help)

Constant (100%)

@Captain_Konnius I spoke with one of our developers who suggested to check Windows antimalware, as we’ve seen this disrupting loading times on several occasions.

I’ll check it out tomorrow, thanks.

@FatsharkLev Hi, if this meant turning off real time protection in windows security, it did nothing to change the issue. Originally I had avast so this wasn’t on in the first place, so based on your suggestion I tried to remove avast, have the PC run on windows defender and the turn this off. No change.

You using DLSS?

With DLSS mine does the same thing;

Looks absolutely ass unless you stand still and let things load in for a few seconds, don’t have this issue in other DLSS games at all.

Swapped over to FSR and it’s better but still very easy to notice;

Don’t have these issues as bad in other games I have tried, but these up scale technologies are just snake oil IMHO, makes everything look worse for no appreciable benefit on good hardware.

For the record, disabling DLSS did nothing. It also takes a lot longer for me for high quality models to pop in.

Turned it off in the launcher before starting the game, along with all the other nonsense?

Turning it off in game doesn’t work very well, even with a restart for some reason.

Resetting shader cache between too might be helpful, I’ve been doing it regularly anyway trying to troubleshoot stuff.

Did clear the cache, did turn all off, no change.

@FatsharkLev please help. Nothing helps.

@Captain_Konnius sorry to hear the issue is persisting :frowning: can you please upload your most recent console log so we can take a look?

Thanks!

Another thought, are your GPU drivers up-to-date? It’s worth checking this, or trying a fresh GPU driver install perhaps:

Also, one of our developers has suggested the following -

  • Just to check, have you lowered your texture quality setting to lowest?
  • Have you made any changes to your settings.ini file and changed parameters to the feedback_streamer_settings in any way?
    File path should be: \Steam\steamapps\common\Warhammer Vermintide 2\bundle on the drive you have Vermintide 2 installed

My textures were getting worse and worse.

I posted in this thread above demonstrating the very slow load in of the high resolution textures with DLSS or FSR on.

I managed to fix the issue mostly after my thread and this post here 1.5.4 breaks overlays - #9 by styky

but alas the low quality textures have returned, and the only way to abate the problem for a while is to completely delete all the files Darktide places on my PC and reinstall the game.

It then takes roughly 12hrs of game play before it becomes infuriatingly obvious that it’s happening again.

We’ve been through several nVidia drivers since this started and I am on the most recent one.

the settings.ini file in that location for Darktide shows only this;

So I followed that path and checked;

All settings files are exactly as they come from a fresh installation.

However I have worked out how to fix it!

No more low res turd textures!

@Captain_Konnius Give this a whirl and lmk what results you get! I’ve not forgotten this thread!

(EDit: Also - Holy increase in FPS!!!)
