Its a different world for some people :money_mouth_face:

Honestly, if I had that kind of disposable income I would probably do the same

Yes I’m sure their marketing department is doing the same reasoning you are, which is my point exactly.

I don’t see this sort of setup as any less nefarious than predatory social media algorithms targeting children, or using ‘fake sale’ prices like keeping the same price but claiming it’s a discount from a higher price to make people feel like they’re getting a deal.

I know it’s profitable but it’s really bad news.

I don’t mind you pulling me across the forum to prove a point, the game has been out for about 2 years, but during the first year there were months of no cosmetic rotation so it’s not as much as you think it is and even if it was 3400USD I had spent over 2 years that’s a small amount of money for something you enjoy at least here.

I am all for changing how fatshark handles their shop and there are a lot of good ideas around here.

340 or 3400 US Dollars?

3400 Dollars is quite a lot of money everywhere in the world.

Except for where it counts: You’re financially incentivizing them to not do it. I’m not trying to antagonize you for it, I’m just pointing out you’re mistaken. You are not in fact all for changing it, your actions are the biggest reason they don’t change it. I can’t phrase it in a way that sounds less harsh.

My point about the money was more that I’m sure you might’ve not spent that much if it was all upfront payments and the whole store was open for purchase from the start. Obviously I’m assuming here but it seems unreasonable to just buy out an entire games cosmetic catalogue in one go.

3400USD that’s less then the average monthly pay which is just over 5000USD here in Norway with the current currency difference, so over a 2 year period that’s not a lot for a hobby.

I get your point, but like I said in the other thread I used to think that me not even buying the game since it had MTX it would send a signal and as I said some of those games are still here today doing better then ever with full MTX, so me spending what I spend a month on MTX here is just a small fraction of the total amount spent by everyone, me stopping wont do anything, but if we all did it at the same time it might have an effect, so let me know when everyone agree to say no and not buy a single item I’ll gladly join.

For what it’s worth I think anyone having a go at you is victim blaming. You might not see yourself as a victim, but your justifications are part of the marketing calculus. Perfectly sound reasoning, which Tencent / Fatshark count when operating the FOMO store.

I feel like FOMO manipulation, artificial rarity, and the fun-bucks system in general is totally unethical. Just because something can turn a profit doesn’t mean it should be tolerated.

I’m not sure why other people even factor into your decisionmaking here. Why does it matter to you what other people spend their money on?

I refer back to my point:

This remains true no matter what other people do. You buying a 15.99 cosmetic has the exact same impact on Fatsharks financials as someone else buying it (or not buying it) and they act accordingly.

I won’t bother going into deeper philosophical points about that line of thinking because it’d be a whole lecture, but I will say that I’m sure many people with impact rationalizes their impact that way. For an example, I often hear “my one vote won’t make a difference so I won’t vote.” different context, same fallacy

Ok Im confused :face_with_spiral_eyes:

Norway Krone to UK Pound is $3400 to £242

compared to what I initially think u mean:
USA Dollar $3400 which converts to £2693

Now you make me confused haha

Well if what he said was 3400$ that’s the same as 37703kr or 2694£
and the average pay per month was 56360kr in 2023 which is 5082$ or 4027£

You’re right I don’t see myself as a victim and I made a choice in spending money on something I enjoy, I understand your arguments for the FOMO they have put in the game and I would prefer it not to be there, but that didn’t have a role in my decision, if we had the entire cosmetics open to us from the start I would most likely get it all over time anyway, but there is no way I would buy it all at once.

Just to preface because you seem to be getting lots of flak, Im not judging you for spending lots of money on something you love. Like I said, if I could I would.

That being said, a couple thousand equivalent to UK pounds on cosmetics in one game, even one you love and even over several years is not common for most people I think.

Yeah I’m amazed how little is required to spark a heated argument, but don’t worry about that.
And you’re right it’s probably not common, I wouldn’t have done it if I couldn’t afford to, Darktide has been my main game since it released so why not direct the money to them and what I enjoy?

not common, but if every person in the world/the playerbase would buy at least one skin in the game, FS would earn a lot anyway. and it’s what it is happening obviously, even more now that there are a lot of people playing the game.

problem is that despite players supporting FS by buying skins, doesn’t seem to speed up the process with free constant update development or simply things like QoL updates.

we got a new map soon and havoc mode which is nice, but i feel like after that, who knows when about new content, so at the end of the day, it’s nice to have content also thanks to players supporting the company by buying skins. i’d support FS too, if skins were made well or there was something else to buy, like hairstyles or new weapons DLC pack (because at least some content that).

but not a fan of digital currency anyway, if they would make aquilas earnable, i’d more keen to buy digital currency as well since i can earn some while grinding. but it doesn’t seem the case.

to be honest, i’m a bit jelly. If I could, I might… but the lack of value is just such a slap in the face.

For what it’s worth, most gamblers also lose tens if not hundreds of thousands of dollars. Nothing to be jealous of, it sounds like a lot if you math it out but anyone can get near there if they stick to 100 a month

But since people want the game to be true to tabletop $10 per color.
