I can’t see how they don’t see the profit in it…

not a fan of the idea of charging for colors imo
it’s just something that is very old as concept, lot of controversy for example when in games you have to pay to change colour of your hairstyle

basic color should be free at very least…
And maybe some cameo/skins that you can apply if you buy them optionally just like weapon skins or something. that’s ok

I bet if they opened the store wide, let us see the full catalogue, and then gave us ‘For the Drip’ mod functionality in the basegame, their profits would double.

And people wouldn’t feel cheated either.

I bought this hideous thing maybe a year ago:

Which was followed by the one I actually wanted, but of course I couldn’t trade it or change the base colour:

You can’t see how upsetting that is, Fatshark?

This isn’t the only set thats done this either. But its not too late. The sooner we correct our course, the easier the transition will be.

Give us the freedom to choose our own combinations!

They’ve been dealing with this complaint since vermintide 2 to be honest, becaues people wanted to make their armor match there as well, but what they’ve created with Dt2 is a whole new level of frustration.

They’re still both missing the midriff armour.

Hats off to them for one thing: I never saw a company before use OCD and inconvenience as their sales pitch.

It’s hilarious how purposeful it is in every facet of their customization design.

It’s unnecessary honestly, if they addressed these issues they’d be more profitable I feel. There’s no reason to keep the issues as issues…

They can see how upsetting that is, and the goal is to make you pay twice. Welcome to fomo rotations: The actual point of it is to frustrate you enough to just buy both. That’s not like a doomer take or something, that is actually the fundamental core design of it.

I feel like people often don’t want to acknowledge that this actually works. A lot of people let the fomo get to them and actually buy twice or thrice. If you could just recolor stuff, then you would never buy a recolor. That’s the sole consideration they make, as this is their business model.

Of course I agree it’d be way better for the consumer, but it is what it is

Unhappy with the latest cosmetics folks? You should be posting here.

Good point, it’s all just the default models recolored (and a few have a bone or two on them)

and this holds well, basic colors should be free

weapon skins, armor skins as well even recycled but with black tint.
should be free, meanwhile other fancy multi colorful skins should be on the store. not the other way around

People are upset with the status quo. The last batch of weapon skins felt bad man.

Be the change you want to see in the world, this is a proposed solution. I’ll happily acqeuois to a better one.

If you’re tired of the current cosmetics situation bump this

I also feel that people often don’t want to acknowledge that this model can do more harm than good. I see what they’re trying to do, I am very aware of market research into the psychology of microtransactions, but there are also a lot of aspects that you can’t measure that matter too.

A good example is pop-up subscribe notifications for sites, either on a timer or triggering when your cursor leaves the browser window. You know the type. All of the analytics point to an uptick in subscribe, because believe it or not some people actually fill these f***ers out – that’s a positive data point (marketers love that shi–). However it’s much, much harder to determine the negative impact – on your brand, and your bottom line.

Alas we may never know for certain whether this system is superior. But it’s a fact that it breeds discontent and turns many people who would otherwise be paying customers away. I guess the whales must be pulling hard, since it hasn’t changed since launch? :woman_shrugging:

These manipulative FOMO stores should be scrutinized by regulators the same way predatory social media algorithms are.

Right or wrong doesn’t play into the financial decisions. If something is despicable but profitable business will keep doing it. Industry would dump toxic waste into every river and carcinogenic smoke into the sky to save a dime if they were allowed to.

Most Darktide players hate the way the store is set up, but someone spreadsheeted that exploiting people with FOMO and artificial rarity will maximize profits and unfortunately nothing else matters.

Sorry, if it’s not a statistic shown at a meeting it doesn’t matter. Nothing matters except short term (to the people in charge)
If it was bad for their bottom line short term you can assume it would’ve changed by now

Yeah if there’s one thing we can be relatively certain of it’s that the digital asset creation is turning a profit, unfortunately.

I think someone in charge has taken some sort of notice probably there was some sort of dip in store sales

I doubt strawhat has started telling the community purely out of the goodness of their heart they are listening to feedback on the store and relaying it to management and pricing after a year of complete silence and ignoring any and all community complaints on the store from fatshark

Not that strawhat’s claims of listening and relaying have gone anywhere actually it’s gotten worse after they started doing it the store proceeded to increase weapon skins prices

“We hear you!” is like the 101 of corpo speak my man. Nothing against Strawhat, I’m sure she does actually relay the info, but the numbers speak and not that.

True but I doubt it started out of the goodness of anyone’s heart

Something motivated to have change in approach to essentially ignore the existence of the store whenever addressing the community to now saying we’re listening

I guess that’s true yeah, although I wouldn’t expect anything of it. The last time we got a “we’re listening to you!” it was when the CEO himself put out an apology letter in the face of overwhelmingly negative steam reviews. The result? 2 months no cosmetics, then they upped the price of them drastically for the next rotation.

I guess to more directly address your point I wouldn’t be surprised if the current premium store rotation simply didn’t sell for jackshit. I mean, it’s all basically just retextures. I wouldn’t be surprised if those performed terribly and THAT’s what prompted the “We hear you!”
