Let us color our skin's Fatshark!

I’m very new to the Warhammer universe, but honestly seeing how integral the model painting is to the table top version of the game (and thus every other aspect of unit/character customization) gives me hope that Fatshark will give us a way to unify the colors of our cosmetic items. Hopefully through allowing us to make our own color combinations.

Look, I know that proposing an idea for Fatshark to make us pay for colors might not be well-received. However, they may not pay attention if I simply insist that everything should be free. In reality, they should explore options like allowing us to earn it in-game for dockets or platsteel.

Like what Warframe does to some pallets.

Totally agree with the concept.
Let us buy the skin and if we already have the skin texture then whenever you sell a recolored skin we should be able to buy just the color for a much lower price.
This way you gain less $$ per recolored sets BUT you can sell more recolor options. Everyone is happy

Warframe, Halo Infinity, Destiny all charge for colours.

Payday 2 had a similar system, they allowed you to customize your mask and they let you earn material’s to retexture it…

DeepL ← pretty usefull in that case, helps you with wording aswell and it’s AI based, so it translates by meaning and not just word by word.

But to get back on topic, yes, the real problem these days, not just in Darktide, is that a lot of gaming companies want to maximize revenue with really questionable pricing, especially in the GaaS space. It has simply degenerated into an extremely vile, exploitative scene that FatShark will not back away from. No one can tell me that this monetization model is in any way player-friendly or truly essential to the studio’s existence, it’s all about maximizing profits. I really hope that more studios go the way of Larian again and produce good games at fair prices without all these gacha, FOMO and whale milking mechanics.

This whole system is deliberately designed the way it is now, the topic is not new, on the contrary, recoloring was already a topic in Vermintide and often requested with endless suggestions on how to integrate it. Basically, everything that is written above this post has already been discussed here in the forum in the same or a similar way. But it’s obviously just not wanted by the developer.

It was even mentioned once by the developer that they are looking into the possibilities of such a system… but of course it came to nothing and was never mentioned again.

Instead, premium skins were introduced, there was hardly any obtainable content (EDIT: by “obtainable” I mean skins for which you actually have to do something explicitly, such as challenges, special maps, events, etc. and which you can’t just unlock for an in-game currency) that were really character outfits and, at the same time, I have to say that my motivation to play the game has fallen significantly. Unfortunately, I don’t think there’s a really good balance between purchasable and obtainable skins. And the whole thing has continued in Darktide and has even been taken to the extreme, both in terms of scope and price. :weary: I should really stop using this forum, I’ve just been upset about the same shitty corporate philosophy for years… :smiling_face_with_tear:

Thanks, I’ll look into that.

On the topic: This is my first Fatshark game, so I never knew they already tried and failed to implement this. That paints a bleak future, then.

Yes, that’s true. However, in Warframe, it’s not limited to buying just one color. They offer palettes with a variety of colors.
In Halo Infinite, additional coatings can be earned through the battle pass or in-game (though I haven’t played the game so don’t know if you get a lot of colors).
As for Destiny, I’m currently trying to look into it, but the information doesn’t appear quickly.
Payday 3, I won’t play because I believe it’s just a money grab.
The only major offender, in my opinion, seems to be Payday 3.
only big offender i think is payday 3

Looks like I was thinking more Destiny 2, while some shaders are earnable through achievements and overlevelling gives you a loot box that might give you a shader, the only other source of shaders are through the Eververse store that cycles its inventory once a week (not even guaranteeing if there are shaders in the inventory at all) or purchasable loot crates via real money bought funny money (silver).

Out of ~475 shaders, ~101 of them are off the store: eververse (if they appear in the store or from boxes), ~77 from seasonal boxes (currently much less because they are seasonal), ~64 from dismantling an item that has the shader, ~30 from season pass, ~83 from faction rank-up boxes and the rest from achievements, events boxes.

Shaders were also a consumable item on release and stayed that way for 5 years.

Yeah, the new Destiny is going downhill, but I didn’t know about that situation. Is it like a loot box? And then the guaranteed ones are in the shop and battle pass?

Yes, loot boxes. Even in the shop it’s not guaranteed to have the shader you want or any shaders at all because it rotates weekly.

Monitize?

Look forward to paying $$$ just to change colours.

Just goes to show how far people have brainwashed into thinking that this should ever be acceptable.

what we can actually do with… mods…

with mods

normal cosmetic

I really like to play in third person view… I really would like to give FS money and purchase, again, cosmetics. But, only when they will give me something valuable, with the right price and where I can use it like I want… so something that make a premium cosmetic like… great.

Fat Shark keep killing the golden goose.

“here’s the item you want so bad. It’s the wrong color and it doesn’t match your gear.”

“Here’s the same thing, but in another color. Buy it again.”

“Here’s a helmet without a neck covering. Please buy it. We’ll release a different one WITH the neck cover that you can buy again later.”

I dunno who is leading this team, but they need to actually play the game for awhile.
