I’m not so sure about the sharing of all gear between classes. To be honest, I’d like to see more class specific gear, so they feel more unique to each other when playing. The poor Psyker is basically stuck as a weak Veteran in the early game with one additional ability until they can get a staff, for example.
But the Sour Milk (Sire Melk; it’s what I call him) missions should be account wide, not bound to each operative; no one has time to do all those missions that many times between four classes.
As for the currencies; I can see why that’s kept separate. Being able to use the accomplishments of one class as a way to speedlevel the others seems kinda lame and lazy. The amount of rewards you can get per mission as a lvl 30 would have the next class you play swimming in money, able to casually level anything weapon to the max, and if you got low, you’d just have to run a couple on your highest level character to refill the coffers. What’s even the point of playing a new class then?
I feel like there are decent reasons to not let all operatives share gear and currency, but I do agree that not letting Sour Milk’s missions be account based is a mistake. I honestly haven’t even tried to complete any because they are like that.
From what I’ve seen, they plan to make it so you can extract good perks, then install them into your favorite Curio. So say you find a perk on a low level item and extract it. Then you can put it into the Curio you want to use and keep it. They just haven’t implemented that yet.
Ding, ding, ding! We have a winner!
There’s proven research that show that the more time you force a player to spend in a game, the greater investment they’ll have in the game, making it harder for them to put the game down. You’d not wanna lose all of your hard work, now would you?
I have made several characters now on darktide, and I personally don’t mind the lack of currency sharing because I actually get a LOT of material and ordos, even on a failed run. The issue is I never get to spend it because the shop is absolute garbage at what I want XD. It wouldn’t be so bad with it’s RNG if it at least included one of every weapon type, and only changed their stats/perks/qualities. It’s annoying to see 5-6 different versions of the same weapon without a single version of 20 others you have unlocked
Completely agree, I don’t mind levelling each base class once but not sharing gear and currency annoys me greatly and seriously affects the longevity of the game for me and most of our 40k-addicted group. I already have a couple of weapons I would love to have on other characters but don’t see use on their current ones (an axe on my psyker and a lasgun on my zealot) which is a real feels-bad moment for me. I’m fine with trust level and class-based restrictions for weapons/curios but outside of that it should be a global inventory and completely global currency.
Honestly if we have to level the new careers/sub-classes/whatever they call them as well and if they have to grind up gear as well that will do it for me for the game. I want to enjoy playing the game not try to enjoy grinding loot for it. VT2’s loot system wasn’t perfect and needed changing but at past a certain point we could easily swap careers for variety and to fill holes in the composition without spending hours and hours searching for gear we already had elsewhere.
As a group we mostly play for the challenge, the 40k universe and style (and just to play together). The current loot, currency and class system are getting in the way of that and over time will drive us away if it’s not changed. I’m sure we’re not the only people who feel this way.
