Labor of Love - Darktide

They did. We didn’t expect Yet Another Port.

True, but now that it is on both consoles maybe the focus will be on more content as it should be.

It got my vote. They’ve created my favourite 40k game ever and given me a thousand hours of damn fun gameplay and often-hilarious dialogue/moments.

They’re not without their faults but definitely deserve this award imo.

Nah. I mean it’s come a really, really long way but the thing that will really swing my vote is when Fatshark improves its communication and follows through on regular content delivery. I need to know we’re out of the “We Promise The Port Isn’t Slowing Things Down” phase once and finally for-freaking-all.

I don’t mean how well the CMs do, when I talk about comms, by the way. They’re great, to be honest. I mean what Fatshark chooses it can and cannot communicate. I have absolutely zero expectation as to what Fatshark is going to do because it is not a company that has my trust in its leadership, they are so poor at explaining their decisions, so many of them are felt well before they are seen or announced (see: this whole German censorship thing), and they’re so bad at sticking to any long term plans or announcing deviations from them that I don’t think the community has any real expectation of future success past where we’ve already gotten. If we really are only just out the hole when it comes to ports then it remains to be seen if Fatshark can keep up now that they’re going to launch with what many of us are calling a real, actual, one-point-oh product.

The game has gotten back on its feet only because there was enough outcry at the beginning of this whole mess that they had to put all their plans on hold and let us marinate in their underbaked mess while they sorted out how to take what they had and make it something like what they had sold, and even then the legacy of those poor early decisions remains. Clearly a dope weapon and outfit customization system has gone the way of the weeds, for example, chopped up and packed into lil baggies to drive a shortsighted microtransaction store. We’re never getting that unless we mod it back in, that seriously sucks.

And now this whole German censorship thing.

So no, not yet, not this year. You guys were close, you were really really really close to earning my stamp in spite of being held back by what must have been last minute calls after management screwed up the development timeline, but current events show that company leadership has only been brought there kicking and screaming. Darktide is nearly there but requires an adequate content pipeline and proper communication before it deserves to be called better than its contemporaries. Fatshark taught me themselves, around this time two years ago, that it isn’t wise to jump the gun when it comes to their claims of success.

You guys know how things have been over this long journey.

You took forever to fix the locks, and content has been drip fed.

We don’t know what you’ve had the teams working on, but for this amount of time we should have twice the content released.

More maps. More classes. More story.

You’ve made a decent start, but there’s still a long way to go.

remind to add skitarii / admech class :smiling_imp:

Because PoE exists. With DT it feels that most good things were implemented not because devs are passionate, but cause community keeps pushing FS.

yea sometimes I feel like it is in this way too. good thing people are vocal on certain things about the game so that FS “may” address some stuff.

if it was truly passionate devs, they would work and make the game a better game improving every day and night, which sadly doesn’t seem the case, but more like a job like others.

I most certainly did not vote for Darktide. As others have already said, great gains have been made, game systems are being sorted out, but it doesn’t feel like a labour of love yet.

I voted for Northgard, because for a game I bought on impulse when it was on Early Access years ago, I’ve gotten several hundred hours from it and they continue to implement new things (most recently a new game-mode for free). Also I have a soft spot for it because its a stable multiplayer game I can play with certain friends who are an ocean and continent away from me.

“Labor of love” isn’t how I see this game’s development so far.

It feels like the community has to beg for positive changes to this game. Don’t get me wrong - it’s fun - but Fatshark seems to begrudgingly make improvements only after months / years of complaints. And even then it’s very slow to roll out any meaningful additions.

And let’s be honest, there is no love whatsoever with an MTX store like the one in Darktide.

I feel this.

Everything about DRG feels like it was attended to by someone genuinely excited and interested to be working on it.

With Darktide, there’s some clear love and enthusiasm in some parts, such as the soundtrack, the character design, visuals, overall atmosphere, weapon feel, combat sound design, etc. There’s so much that some people clearly get and do right at Fatshark. Then we get other parts that feel either phoned-in or or actively predatory, including literally everything about itemization until a couple months ago, and the currently-advertised outsourced Chinesium Krieg MTX Cosmetics badly highlight continuing issues, being both phoned-in poor representations of the Krieg visuals with a couple extra bits and recolors to get people to buy them if they didn’t last time while being priced at “premium” levels above other cosmetics.

I know that this is at least mostly beyond the development team’s reach, but it is such a sour sticking point that it still poisons me against the game in general still. It would not be so bad if it had not been a perpetual chain of mediocrity, veering on rare occasion to excellence (Elysian outfits) to absolute rubbish, more the latter than former. The justification for the bundle price increase in Patch 13 notes still sticks in my craw.

Well, it can be attributed to the CEO ultimately, who has gone on record writing a letter of apology that he evidently didn’t mean because nothing changed. I think it’s fair to say that the teams related to the core gameplay are doing a great job and labor of love applies there, but many of the secondary decisions completely ruin that impression. That about sums up Darktide as a whole though.

If the devs at Fatshark responsible for the quality of the game itself could break away from the rest of the company their games would definitely qualify as a labor of love.

Probably the only one or atleast the most lore accurate one.

How are you guys gonna beg for nominations at the same time you’re pulling some censorship BS :sob:

C’mon Fatshark you’re better than this, get it together!

Darktide is rotting, Dwarf Fortress is forever.

Nah, not even close…
I vote for was choosin between Primal Carnage and Verimn 2, and disided to go V2, even if versus is garbage.

Another reason not to vote for darktide is all the little things that haven’t been attended to.

Like being able to color our outfits!

Last I checked… Scion helmet still didn’t have the neck guard. It NEEDS a neck cover and looks stupid without one. And to add to the problem you put a neck guard on the bumblebee helmet…

So we KNOW you have a neck guard, it’s there and all ready to go and you are just not giving it to us on the scion no matter how much we ask. WHERE IS THE LOVE?

IF you guys had the love you want us to vote for you on… We shouldn’t even need to ask for this, let along asking for it for a year or more and being ignored.

The love is freaking lacking.
