Labor of Love - Darktide

This game has been out for a while. The team is well past the debut of their creative baby, but being the good parents they are, these devs continue to nurture and support their creation. This game, to this day, is still getting new content after all these years.

Labor of Love Award - Did you nominate Darktide?
  • Yes
  • No (I nominated another game)
0 voters

A simple poll for fun, just to see what people think in general.

You don’t have to but:
If you voted “Yes”, please explain why It deserves the award.
If you voted “No”, please explain why, and feel free to say which one you nominated instead.

For the people that want simply partecipate to the poll without explaining, votes are anonymous.

Because there wasn’t much labor done, simple as.

One one hand, they did keep at it and fix some glaring issues, but on the other hand, they were mostly issues they deliberately designed themselves into. And there is no ‘love’ when it comes to the MTX store, which has hardly changed except getting arguably worse.

I nominated Deep Rock Galactic because I felt that they deserved Labour of Love more.

I would have nominated Darktide for “Best Soundtrack” if I could and no mistake.

I also nominated another game, but plot twist: I nominated Vermintide 2

Because I feel like VT2 still holds up well, and I like the fact developers gift to players premium skins during Xmas, which is something kind, and I think VT2 is somewhat detailed even in the smallest things, which gives a feeling of attention for the game. along with removing fomo from the game by giving back the old stuff that people missed because they simply couldn’t log in that day. e.g. frames, illusions for weapons etc.

And hopefully it continues in that way. And I hope with the Versus game mode, it is also the begin of something new related to new content for PVE modes, for example the latest new map, A Parting of the Waves had really nice design, and with the new map announced also, it is a very cool direction.

I’m sure they like their game but the Fatshark lazy jokes write themselves when it comes to the “labor” part. As for the “love” part I consider many things in the game rushed and shoddy to this day. Ogryns can’t even vault fences, still. It’s been over a year since they broke that, 0 cares given. There’s also things like them obviously just duping a ton of autoguns to make the “Here, the promised 60 weapons!” thing on release.

pretty much this. yes, there have been improvements and game is finally in a “good state”.

although there still are open questions like mission selection, solo play, story / progression, balance issues, remaining bugs, full customization.

so given their pace it will take another 2 years at least, if they’re even willing to do so.

the cash shop has become a joke, you pay more and get less (like 900 for one weapon when we had sets of 40+ weapons for 800, and weapons and trinkets included with the skin sets)

all those insignias leaking weapons :smiling_imp:
which some of them, had melta gun also

i guess may be the next weapon for veteran but yea, i agree on everything
basically promises not kept, because for some reasons plans changed, lot of critical bugs still existing today, and so on

from a side it seems communication improved a lot now, but it feels like the real issues are still not getting addressed. and if they take lot of years just like itemization then it will be very bad.

DT has lot of potential and could be more fun, if certain issues were going to be promptly solved.

April’s “Road to Redemption”

June’s “Secrets of the Mechanical God”

“Loading and Unlocking” for September

Counting the “Grim Protocols” in December, Fat Shark updates four times a year.

To be honest, if Fat shark updated six times a year, I would definitely vote for him.But four times is not enough.

And the fat shark barely communicates with us for the entire three months from January to March 2024.

if only they were doing constant hotfixes also, would been epic. but also those, are always slow to arrive… e.g. 3 maps removed and we have to wait 3 december…

Like it is still kinda shocking removing some maps and waiting 1 week for the fix.
I get it they did it because of a critical bug, but the hotfixes are not always fast as they should be. not many quality of life update either sadly. the content that comes is amazing, but often small and not constant as you said.

It took 2 years to get the game to a place it can be recommended.
The itemisation alone was 2 years of “NO LOCKS” (its even better now as we dont have to blessing hunt) and instead we got a sidegrade of sh-t before unlocked and loaded.
1 new class per quarter was showed under the class rework - which was really good, but the talent trees need a HARD pass over with balancing.

DT2 is a really good game now, and as it is in line with fatsharks MO. They needed just to listen to feedback for it to get good

i will not nominate DRG for this game unless they actually put some love into it, do what the promised, do what the community has been asking, and stop being idiots. however, i can tell that DRG deserves it, so does warframe, honestly, i have no idea why they’re asking for this one, its not like they’ve even come close to earning it.

Yes I did, despite all the flaws and very slow drip of content, it’s one of my favorite games in the recent years.

Giving the game you promised people would have at launch should not be considered “labor of love”.
If there was love involved, it wouldn’t have been thrown on the pavement for the cars to run over like they did. Just because they later picked it up and bandaged it that doesnt mean they should be given a “parent of the year” award

The game is not getting new content, its getting content it was supposed to have 2 years ago. (with the exception of the few new weapons and maps i guess)
Next year though? if they continue to update the game. Yeah, sure i’ll nominate it.
As i see it, the game just came out from early access. So with the next update that’s coming the game will in a 1.1 version.
(though dont get me wrong, i really love the game, and its one of those games that i dont think i’ll ever uninstall)

This industry needs more tough love.
People are far far far too forgiving these days. Nominating disgusting filth like “cyberpunk 2077” with labor of love…

2 years in and the game is so unbalanced it feels like a pre alpha

No… other option

Naaaaah…

I might nominate Darktide for Sit Back and Relax Award…

…pffffff, hahaha!
Like that’s going to happen.

If there was “Quite fun game in one of my favorite settings, I’ve sunk over 3000 hours, that makes me feel multitude of emotions, but mostly rage due to RNG and related to it design choices” I would nominate Darktide in a blink of an eye and preach it with all my heart.

They might get my vote for best soundtrack.
“Labour of love” is not the same as “Path of Redemption” (He did it, He said it! Airhorns).
… that’s why not.

the love taking away things in the game i loved for 2 years, selling us out for some console peasant sales?

that love?
guess they can ask for the love of those hopping off the train in a month of two after people refuse to carry their dead weight through stuff they are even more clueless about than those refusing to improve for months?

guess my loving wallet aint so loving anymore seeing how worthless two years of dedication to the game is when someone waves a few more dollars in the face.

but sure, a quick sale is worth more than those keeping the lights on and the unable masses carried.

tell you about love (not adressed to you as the messenger), i love me the "who are you mod and opt out of EVERY lobby having a console dude.

no gore for me(thank god for mods, but curse the spineless dudes in charge selling pc gamers for 2 years out for that console :poop:) no carry for the source of that blight.

bang your heads on auric, i’m literally done.

love… yeah right.
was loving the game for 4300€ worth a pc, at least 1000€ in mcfarlane figures and paint,150€ or so for skins and later upgrade to imperial edition out of thanks for the beautiful experience.

turns into something “ugly” real quick
