KNOWN ISSUE: Sound Cues Missing or Too Quiet

Snipers are noticeably quieter with the new update, I’ve found myself getting hit by sniper shots that I swear I didn’t even hear but when I’m looking at the recordings the snipers do still play their audio cue but much quieter than what I’m accustomed to.

Compare the audio volume in the clip of the sniper shot to everything else here like dialogue, pox hound, flamer, bullet dodge sfx & the trapper sounds and I hope you’ll understand what I mean.

This is ridiculous

Audio issues are more common now thanks to the plasma gunner and the sniper volume change meaning more instances of quiet audio being drowned out or entirely absent.
You’ll have to pay me if you want me to start categorizing and describing each instance at this point there’s too much for me to voluntarily keep track of.

@Harridas I’m adding you, by name, to the Book for collecting this ongoing issue.

ongoing issue, and its even worse after the new changes.

I wonder why this thread is not pinned anymore, since every update there’s not a single word on this issue.

This issue has become the worst I have EVER seen it in the game. I played 3 Auric QPs and almost all of them had trappers/boomers spawning in left and right with no warnings- literally so many that dodging one net lands you in another and the entirety of the team in every match was getting trapped far more than is usual.

This game is getting worse and worse technically every damn patch.

Yeah I’ve noticed it a lot recently too. Especially hounds and bursters. The only warning you get is their final ‘pounce’ audio from 2ft away.

the only reason this thread exists is to stop people posting their bugged audio on the forums, it’s obviously never going to be fixed

I fixed it by simply changing the Audio Mix preset to “Nightmode“ in the game options. Didn’t have issues with it since.

It seems that Dynamic Audio Mixes give higher priority to nearby sounds, muffling other distant soundclues players would prefer to hear, like Poxburster clicks.

Why did Fatshark decide to make the sniper audio cue worse with the Boundy By Duty update? The sniper audio cue was one of the more reliable special audio cues and now it’s so quiet in comparison to most other things.

What’s everybody’s audio settings?
I usually just leave mine default and it’s mostly fine. Usually I start to miss audio cues if I set it to 5.1 and/or dynamic high

It’s processing memory most likely. If you have a peripheral sound card that can process many more layers than just the CPU/onboard audio you will notice it far less often. Using surround sound/dynamic makes additional sense to that.

Iv noticed when I play on the PS5 I get more missing sound cues which gets worse with higher difficulties. In general the PS5 doesnt handle higher difficulties so well, with more lag, sound cue drops and dodges not working etc. On my PC I get almost no problems apart from the occasional crazy bad laggy game that I posted on another thread, but they are honestly an anomaly for me.

Sadly Darktide is quite a resource heavy game along with needing a high quality stable internet connection. V2 was the same. When I used to play it on my PS4 with a 60mbit connection I would have similar issues. Then I upgraded to a PS5 and moved to a house with a 1gbit connection and all my problems basically went away on V2.

I also doubt most people play DT on headphones. My bro misses sound cues all the time and he plays on headphones but keeps DT quite low. Its funny how much he gets bodied by a mutie and complains it came out of nowhere and Im sitting there going “I heard it coming, didnt you?”

It could be so many things and many of them are likely not directly FS’s fault, apart from optimization issues and high network stability requirements ofc.
